  1. I have noticed in the past that several members are or were active duty military. I have a couple of questions about dealing with the VA. When I was in the USAF, I had surgery done on my knee and my miniscus carteldge was removed. The VA filed me as less than 10% disabled. While I do get to go to the VA clinics and they have done a follow up surgery, I am needing surgery again. The surgeon even says my cartiledge is gone and I should be on disability. Unfortunately for me, the nearest hospital is New Orleans. After Katrina, the hospital was damaged beyond repair. They are currently using Tulane Univ. training hospital but are limited on the number of days they have access to the surgery. Presently, I have basically additional floating bones in my knee area that keep floating into the joint area and creating a rather electifying experience. I am on the list for surgery to remove the particals as I am "too young" for replacement, but have not been scheduled. And truthfully, not sure when it will happen. My questions are: 1. How do I get the VA to upgrade, my disability - I have tried being reevaluated, but they just touch my scar and say nothing has changed. 2. How do I get the VA to move me up on their schedule, I have been waiting since Halloween and jonesing to ride my bike. TIA Joe
  2. The Gambler (Craig Green) is in Scarborough, ON hospital after suffering a heart attack. You can contact his wife, Laura, by email at: lauragreen@rogers.com or myself at: rydersroost@yahoo.ca We wish him a speedy recovery.
  3. Here we go again, Charlene is having more surgery, on her neck this time, she has 3 ruptured discs, going to have 2 of them removed and have some donor bone, cages, a plate and 6-8 screws put in. This is one we weren't expecting but after she had her hip replaced and her spinal surgery she was still having numbness and pain being caused by the bad disc. She is going back to Emory Hospital in Tucker, Ga. They are very good at what the do, I highly reccomend them to anyone who may need any kind of orthopedic surgery done.
  4. A few of you know my Daughter Abigail was admitted into the hospital December 27th with severe stomach pain. She was discharged last night when pain subsided. They don't know what happened because the specialist they needed refused to come to the hospital because it was the holidays. They kept her on morphine and wouldn't sign the papers to have her transferred to University of Michigan hospital where they said she needed to be. Been an ongoing problem for two years but usually only lasted a few hours so by the time she got to a doctor it was over and they couldn't find a reason. This time it lasted for 6 days, she couldn't eat or drink and she lost 12 pounds, and they did very little to find the cause of the problem. So starting Wednesday she starts seeing doctors for follow up so they can tell me they don't know why and they need to see her when she's having the pain. I better stop before I start ranting. Wish her luck.
  5. My wife and I were out shopping. Stopping in front of a swimsuit store, She asks me .... should I get a 2 piece or an all in one. .....I said better make it the two peice, you will never get it all in one. Hospital Visiting Hours are 10 AM to 8 PM http://venturerider.org/forum/images/smilies/Avatars_Gee_George.gif
  6. My wife asked me, "How many women have you slept with?" I proudly replied, "Only you, Darling. With all the others I was awake." Hospital Visiting Hours are 10 AM to 8 PM
  7. One of my co workers was T-boned on his bike (Honda 500) this morning on his way into work. Details are still a little sketchy. What I do know so far The cage that hit him ran a stop sign. He was transported by Flight for Life helicopter from the main hospital here in Racine to a major medical complex in Milwaukee. I know that he has multiple compound fractures of the leg and foot. I do know that he wears a helmet so I hope that end of him is OK.
  8. Hope to see plenty of members in Memphis tomorrow for our Annual St. Jude Donation Ride. Looking forward to seeing some I havent seen in a while........and hopefully some new faces will get to see what a great job the folks at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital do for the kids. Please remember to wear you Cruisin for St. Jude shirt if you have one, I will have some with me for those who dont, but come early I dont have a lot of them. :Venture:
  9. I'm new here, but thought I'd share. Wife is preggers, and had a appointment today. Doc said she was 2cm dilated and 75% effaced. He said baby will be here within the week, if not tonight. She's been having contractions since yesterday. They got down under 7 minutes apart about midnight, so I took her to the hospital. They think her water has broke, but they are having a difficult time confirming it. They won't let her go home, but they won't admit her yet, either. So now we are in limbo. When our first was born (13 years ago), we went to the hospital at 5PM, and had the same song and dance. Four hours later he was born. I was worried about how fast it happened last time, and this being her second child may make it even quicker. Now it kinda sux because we could have been home getting some sleep. Oh well, better safe than sorry. Oh well. Coffee break is over. I'll update when there is news.

Had a good visit with boomer. He came over yesterday and we changed his tires, rear brakes and rearend oil. This morning we took a nice ride and he left around noon. I could tell he wasn't 100% from the virus but it was great having him over. We missed ya, Walter, know you just got out of the hospital and hope you are doing better. Anyway a great time and boomer a gift wasn't neccessary, enjoy helping and working on the bikes. Hope you made it home ok and we'll get together again soon.
  11. Its getting closer to our ride to St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis. Oct. 2, is jjust around the corner. You still have time to help the kids out by going over to the Classifieds and cliking on St. Jude Auctions. There are currently 9 auctions posted, 1st Gen parts, T-shirts & pins, & 2 pair of J&M head sets. Remember all monies generated by these auctions is going to the kids at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. You can also clik on the link below to get to the auctions. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showcat.php/cat/15

  13. Not a big response to our poll for the ride to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, but I need to go ahead an confirm the date with them, so it looks like we will be going to St. Jude Childrens Hospital on Oct 2, 2010. We will meet at the Flying J Truck Stop in West Memphis just across the river from Memphis at 11:00 am central time. We will have lunch at the Flying J and then proceed over to the Hospital to take a tour and present our check. I will also be posting some more auctions soon to help build up our fund. We now have $1088.00. Look forward to seeing a bunch of you there.
  14. I thought it was time for an update of the past efforts of everyone here at Ventureriders. I could name a lot of people that have taken the bull by the horns and helped me in our effort to raise money for the kids at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. But being the old fart that I am my memory isnt so good at remembering all of them, but let me say that most have been raised by hosts of many of our events that have come to pass. With that said I thought you should know how successful our efforts have been up to now. Let me preface this by saying that the average for giving by motorcycle orginizations like ourselves, have an average of $2500.00. Now some of them may be smaller, some larger, but I dont think any are more dedicated that VentureRiders, we are a special breed, we are more of a family than just another riding group. Since 2005 when I put together the first Tail of the Dragon/Vogel up to now we have raised and donated over $10,500.00 to St. Jude. That does not include any of the money raised so far this year. We are lagging behind a little but I have faith that we will get quite a bit more before our annual ride to St. Jude. I want to thank everyone for their support of St. Jude. It is a wonderful research facility and until you have been there and seen it and the Ronald McDonald house across the street from it you have no idea of what St. Jude is to those kids who need it and its research. So In the next few days I will be contactinig them and setting up a date to present the monies to them in person at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Thanks again, Lewis & Charlene
  15. From Veterinary Services to Massages .Now about the massages Whatever To sleeperhawk did he make ok to hospital ,I believe the masooohs got a little carried away:rotfl:
  16. Hey guys, I've been looking for a link telling about a young girl on the back of a GSXR 750 that fell off and stayed in thew hospital for several months. This was posted within the last week. Can any of you give me the link? I can't seem to find it.
  17. Got an e-mail from Jean......Earl came through the surgery very well. He may be discharged from the hospital shortly!!
  18. We have to get up extra early tomorrow, we have to be at the hospital at 5:30 in the morning. Charlene is going back in for a total hip replacement. Hopefully this will be the last surgery she will have, they say there is a fair chance her knee pain may lessen after this surgery, if so it will be the end to all of her problems, I dont know how she has put up with all the pain from her back, hip and knee. along with me the royal pain. She should be out of the hospital by Saturday if all goes well. Recovery will be much faster than her back surgery. She will be up and walking the afternoon of the surgery. Please keep her in your prayers.
  19. First I must apologize to all you good people It’s been way too long since I requested you prayers and god thoughts for my grandson and then later for myself. And I have not gotten back to you with my thanks and an update on how things are going. As I live alone just finding the time and the energy to get everything done is difficult. As for my grandson, he came home from the hospital just before Christmas but he has to have oxygen full time. They even arranged to have oxygen at school for him so he could stay in school and keep up on his school work. He had a heart catheterization and that showed everything is normal. Then they took him to see his original transplant doctor. They are looking at his lungs and the blood vessels through it. They think that maybe they are not formed right causing the problems he has now. We will just have to wait and see. They just don’t know at this point and are still doing tests. As I said before nobody has lived this long with the condition he has. As for myself as some of you may know I was taken to the hospital. In mid December a family member found me on the floor unresponsive and called an ambulance to take me to the hospital. Around the same time my grandson as coming home from the hospital is was going in. I was in for 15 days barely aware of anything for most of the time. The team of doctors that worked on me told my family that there was less than 2% chance of me leaving the hospital. They don’t know what caused it but all my major organs were shutting down heart, Lungs, liver and kidneys. They even thought part of my brain was gone. But I fooled them and walked out on my own 2 feet. It was still almost 2 weeks before I could get back to any kind of work and I still trying to catch up on all my work. When I had to go back in the one doctor referred to me as their miracle, for pulling me through. But all is not well while I am home but I had to return to the hospital twice and 2 other times I thought I would have to go back in with problems with my heart. They still need to do some tests. I was to have a nuclear stress test tomorrow but they had to cancel due to the snow they couldn’t get the drugs delivered so I am waiting to hear from as to when they can do it. At this point I don’t what the future holds I take it one day at a time. I am on light duty only no snow shoveling at all so I am unable to get out for a few days due to the snow. It will be several months at least before I may get back to anything close to normal. The good news they have not restricted me from riding this summer that’s all up to me and how I feel at the time. But they have really limited my diet no sugar, no salt, low cholesterol. No alcohol, no caffeine along with limited fluids. As long as I stay with I stay out of the hospital. Thank you for all you prayers and good thoughts and keep them coming I need and welcome all the help I can get. Gary
  20. On Monday morning we head out to the hospital in Tucker, Ga., so Charlene can have her long awaited surgery on her spine, it has been a long and tough road for her, I don't know how she did it, I would have given up by now if it would of been me, but she is a trooper and has tolerated it, even though she was in great pain and could hardly walk, she isnt' nervous about it, in fact I think she is excited about getting better, but its making me very anxious. She will be having two seperate surgery's the first Monday and the second more intensive on Thursday, it should last anywhere from 6-8 hrs maybe longer. So if you would offer up a prayer to guide the surgeons hands to a successful surgery and easy recovery for Charlene it would be greatly appreciated. I will be on vacation for the next 2 weeks while she is in the hospital and helping her on her first days home after that her sister from Houston will be here taking care of her while I am at work.
  21. Well we are finally moving forward with Charlene's surgery, seems all the phone calls and getting with our HR rep this morning at work helped. Only thing is we now have to start the whole process all over, back to the Dr for pr-op visit, cant be over 30 days between surgery and last visit, then have to go thru the consents again and pre-op at the hospital all over again, surgery is now scheduled for Jan. 25 and Jan 28. I am still fairly bitter about the way the insurance co. treated her file, but she is handling it much better. Thanks for all your prayers and support, it helps to have a big family backing you when you need it.
  22. Whenever I have to stay overnight in the Hospital my co-pay is a automatic $1067.00. With me in the hospital last November and the upcoming surgery on January 23rd that is $2134.00 in Hospital co-pays. I applied for help with the co-pays through the Hospital and this morning they called and told me I was approved. They are wiping out the November one and covering any Hospital co-pays for the next 6 months so that will cover the surgery co-pay. Still have to pay all the doctors and tests co-pays but covering that $2134.00 sure takes a load of my mind. Merry Christmas to me. Also Merry Christmas to the entire Venture.org Family.
  23. I have just posted 4 more auctions to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. These auction are for a St. Jude Cruisn T-shirt, hat, and pin. These auctions will fun for 15 days. Thanks to everyone who supports this great research hospital for our kids. If you havent been there, you need to check it out if your ever in the area, it is a beautiful facility, doesnt resemble a hospital at all. Thanks again, and happy bidding:mo money::mo money:
  24. Prevent Swine Flu - Good Advice Dr. Vinay Goyal is an MBBS,DRM,DNB (Intensivist and Thyroid specialist) having clinical experience of over 20 years. He has worked in institutions like Hinduja Hospital, Bombay Hospital, Saifee Hospital, Tata Memorial etc. Presently, he is heading our Nuclear Medicine Department and Thyroid clinic at Riddhivinayak Cardiac and Critical Centre, Malad (W). The following message given by him, I feel makes a lot of sense and is important for all to know. The only portals of entry are the nostrils and mouth/throat. In a global epidemic of this nature, it's almost impossible to avoid coming into contact with H1N1 in spite of all precautions. Contact with H1N1 is not so much of a problem as proliferation is. While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of H1N1 infection, in order to prevent proliferation, aggravation of symptoms and development of secondary infections, some very simple steps, not fully highlighted in most official communications, can be practiced (instead of focusing on how to stock N95 or Tamiflu): 1. Frequent hand-washing (well highlighted in all official communications). 2. "Hands-off-the-face" approach. Resist all temptations to touch any part of face (unless you want to eat, bathe or slap). 3. *Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (try to use sea salt, not idodized table salt - about 1 teaspoon in a large glass of warm water, or use Liserine). *H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the throat/ nasal cavity to proliferate and show characteristic symptoms. Simple gargling prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling with salt water has the same effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has on an infected one. Don't underestimate this simple, inexpensive and powerful preventative method. 4. Similar to 3 above, *clean your nostrils at least once every day with warm salt water. *Not everybody may be good at Jala Neti or Sutra Neti (very good Yoga asanas to clean nasal cavities), but *blowing the nose hard once a day and swabbing both nostrils with cotton buds dipped in warm salt water is very effective in bringing down viral population.* 5. *Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in Vitamin C (Amla and other citrus fruits). *If you have to supplement with Vitamin C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc to boost absorption. 6. *Drink as much of warm liquids (tea, coffee, etc.; especially WATER) as you can. *Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses from the throat into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate or do any harm. I suggest you pass this on to your entire e-list. You never know who might pay attention to it - and STAY ALIVE because of it. A 15 year-old near here died
  25. All right, Vogel is over, everybody is well rested and it is time for the us to wrap up our St. Jude drive for 2009. I want to thank everyone who helped make this a very successful year for Ventureriders and St. Jude Children's Hospital. So far we have over $3200.00 to present them with thanks to the deep pockets of our members. The ride will take place on Sept. 12, 2009. We will be meeting at the Flying J Truck Stop in W. Memphis, Ark. It is located at the junction of I-55 & I-40, which is the last exit before you cross the Mississippi River into Memphis, Tn. We will meet there at 11:00 am in the parking lot, then we will have lunch in the Flying J, from there it is a 3-4 mile ride across the river to Memphis, Tn. where we will be taking a tour of St. Jude Children's Hospital. This is a fantastic place to see, you wont believe you are in a hospital, it looks more like a day care center. After the tour if you would like, some of us will be going down to Tunica, Ms. and we can eat at one of the fine buffets at Harrah's Casino and whatever else you might try your hand at there. One little reminder here, if you want to bring some kind of small gift, remember no stuffed animals, but coloring books, crayons, puzzles, crosswords, books are things they could use. I know we discussed teddy bears, but they just cant take a chance on those, due to the weak immune systems these kids have. Or if you or your company would like to make a donation, please make the checks out to St. Jude Children's Hospital. A donation or prize is not required to make this ride. Thanks to all again and look forward to seeing you at The 3rd Annual St. Jude/Mean Dog Memorial Ride.
