  1. I have been toying with building a 40 watt stereo amplifier (2x20 watts) that uses the bikes fader control to control the amplitude (output) of and converts the rear speakers from mono to stereo on the RSV. Actually I have built the unit and I’m happy with the results so far but I may try and reduce the size of the unit. All the bikes electronics remain intact and work as advertised; this unit only provides contollable stereo output to the rear speakers using the bikes fader control. If you turn the volume up on the rear speakers using the fader control on the bike you increase the amplitude of the rear speakers and visa versa. The base and treble control on the bike will control the base and treble on the front and rear speakers. The unit will fit behind the access panel of the trunk, which is located behind the passenger seat. You have to tap the front speakers and run wire to this location. If you don’t have volume on the front speakers you won’t have volume in the rear. The big problem was to build the circuit so you could not overload the input by turning up the front volume. You also have to run power and ground from a switched feed for power to this location. You can use the stock speakers because the power output is only about 11 watts actual per channel and the stock speakers are 14 watts. I can increase the output of the unit to about 100 watts per channel and still keep the size down so it will fit, but if I did this you would need to upgrade the rear speakers. I have been in contact with a company that will build the component and enclose it in a watertight enclosure but the price is a bit high I think. In order to get the price down to what I consider reasonable I will need to order 1000 of them. At present I am trying to get the price down to $130 to $150 delivered in the states. I don’t know that I can do that and keep the quality of the unit up. At present the unit would sell for about $180.00 plus shipping. So before I continue searching for a manufacture that will give me a better price I want to get an idea of how many people would like one. Also what do you think of the price? Thanks for you inquiries and input.
  2. I've removed the instrument cluster and can't get the face off until I remove the Illumination control. Anyone know how to remove the control ? Does it just pull off or what ???? Jim O'D..
  3. Has anyone tried adjusting the rear pedal height? Could the angle applying the brake have any effect on pressure causing the rear brake lockup? Is there any better control if the front brakes are used first and than add in the rear brakes?
  4. I have finished with the installation of the Rick Butler Brake Modification and the installation of the TCB in companion with his original installation. I wish to stress to all of you, either one of these installations, in or by itself or in companion, will not prevent lock up of the rear wheel, as neither will the installation of the TCB on the front brakes. What these things do is give you great control over the brakes and stop the instant lock-up so common with the rear brake. You will have to practice with these installations...learn their limitations and yours. I am personally delighted with Ricks proportioning valve installation, the TCB devices......used on the front, I give a thumbs up.....used on the back by itself, thumbs down, used in companion with Ricks proportioning valve, it adds a bit of smooth control to the braking. I only put these things on this afternoon and went to a large parking lot to practice......I kept it down to 35 to 45 mph for a bit........got used to them, then romped it up to 60 and put the binders on, took me a bit to get used to how to use these new installations.......but you have such great control with the use of them.....in the space of two parking lot spaces , I can stop Crickett from 60 mph in that space with the front wheel about a foot past one of the spaces. I had no tape with me and it is those back to back spaces in the middle of a parking lot and I am traveling the full length of the two spaces with an over shot of about a foot. Any harder and the wheels lock up. Thats pretty good folks........somewhere in the neighbor hood of 40 to 50 feet. I really do wish to stress to all of you.......this is not a magic cure.....it is a means of gaining more and great control of the brakes...you will have to practice with these things......get used to them, and train yourself to use them, I cannot stress that enough...simply bolt them on, do not ever practice and the day you need them......yes the wheels will still lock up, you have to learn how to use these devices. I tried all kinds of settings......as lowas turning the proportioning valve adjustment out one turn(this was a bit too soft for me) all the way up to three turns out. With the TCB used in companion, I have settled on two turns out on the valve. I tried it without the TCB first and used one turn out......with the TCB installed two turns seems to suit me just fine. I have then safety wired the valve to prevent accidental adjustment of the device. The bottom line is if you practice with these devices......they do give you great control of the brakes on this bike.......hope the photos turn out, they show the parts.......the valve and the tap and adapters installed into the valve....The TCB installed front and rear and my safety wire job. 5. I need a radio control for my 1999 Venture. Does anyone know where a used one can be bought? Or someone with a wrecked Venture that is parting it out? Thanks
  6. I let my daughter use my laptop for the last few weeks and when I got it back today it now has a one inch black bar running down both sides and I can't seem to find how to make the screen use the full width. I've tried the control panel and desk top appearence ets and it show a full screen there but doen't change it after apply and save. ANY IDEAS??
  7. While Recuperating, I Am Having A Lot Of Time To Think About My Accident. What Caused It, How I Performed And How The Bike Performed. 1st Is Easy...i Was Not Paying Close Enough Attention, Flat Out My Fault. 2nd Has Required Deep Thought. I Know I Hit The Rear Brake Hard And I Think I Used Enough Front Brake, But Not Sure. My Reflexes Being What They Have Become, Is That I Have A Really Quick Right Foot. Did I High Side Myself? Not Sure But Think I Did. Sure Hit The Payment Hard. I Have Done Some Slow Speed Practice Emergency Stops, But Am Reluctant To Practice At High Speed..40-50 Mph. I Know I Skidded The Rear Tire, But Not Sure About The Front. Maybe If I Was As Quick With The Front As The Rear I Might Not Have Crashed. 3rd, The Bike Did What I Told It To, But I Think Is Capable Of Much More. Is It Possible To Link The Brakes On These Bikes And Still Keep Good Control In All Situations? Why Would It Not Be Good To Have Both Brakes Come On With One Control Instead Of Two? I Know That Racers And Certain Sport Bikes Need Independant Brake Control Because Of Their Riding Styles. I Don't Ride That Way, I Don't Want To See How Far I Can Lean The Bike Over, I Like To Cruise And Tour. What I Would Like To Do Is To Link And Balance The Brakes. Is It Feasible? All Thoughts Appreciated.
  8. i am looking at the schematic for the cruise control system and i see that the speed signal is picked up electrically off the back of the speedo cluster. without pulling my speedo off to check, does anyone know if this is a milliamp signal, or a 12 volt pulse that triggers the cruise control box. ( i have a friend with an 85 vmaxx and he has an 86 venture that he wants to pull the cruise off and put on the vmaxx.)
  9. I am getting the famous error message on my suspension control. Where is the board located that you have to resoldier. It is not airing up the front shocks although the pressure shows on the screen.
  10. Well, I finally got all the bugs out of the starter clutch problem that I was having. Thanks for everyone's input on the problem to help me diagnose it and make the repairs, especially GeorgeS (he was a really big help and couldn't have done it without his telephone assistance). Now I have another wierd problem that reared it's ugly head for only the second time since I have owned this Venture (19 months so far). I needed to give my throtle hand a rest when riding today and decided to set the cruise. I hit the power button on the cruise module, all the lights indicated proper functioning and the pressed the "set" control on the handlebar. The bike immediately lost all electrical function and died. After coasting to the side of the road, I turned the ignition off and then back to the run position. The bike started right up. I made it home, but was afraid to try the cruise again for fear of the same results. In case you are wondering if this may be somehow tied to my starter clutch repairs... I don't think so. The cruise did this exact same thing once before back last fall. After that incident it has worked flawlessly untill today. Any ideas?
  11. A Newbie to this site with a recent purchase of a 87 Venture Royale with only 55K kilometres (32K miles) on the clock and in fine shape. On a ride yesterday, my headsphone/speaker switch failed with it in the speaker position. I did some disassembly last night and got to the point where I found the small micro-switch soldered into the audio control board. The switch has movement but the internal connections seem to be gone since the LED light indicating the position does not illuminate either. Does anyone have experience with replacing these switches? Can it be done or am I looking at trying to replace the whole audio control module? Alternatively, maybe the switch is fine and the problem is a frayed wire/loose connection elsewhere . Anyone had thiis problem before? Thanks Ron
  12. When I start the Venture and switch on the cruise control for the first time it always works flawlessly. If I then cancel it and try to resume speed it works sometimes and not every time. If I switch off the cruise control and turn it back on again it usually won't set. Is there anything that I can do to make it work more consistently?
  13. I've been scrounging around the Internet last 2 days looking for some Information on Repairing Control cables. --- Did not find much except, " Buy a new one " --- This morning I found this site, has some pretty good information, complete with photo's --- http://www.dansmc.com/cables.htm ----- --- http://www.flandersco.com/FlanCableSearch.html Might be of interest to sombody, also good info for snowmobile controls cable, and maby ever bycyle's. --- My new set of cables should be here today.
  14. My first time on this site and it's for assistance. My cruise control lights all three and then ON but will not engage nor light any longer. Checked fuses just in case another circut but OK. Assume problem in throtle or associated switches. Anyone got a heads up on this and or a diagraham to share for dissassembly. Hate to take to dealer and wait for repair, parts, etc. My number one therapy is my ride time or just knowing "she's" sitting in my heated garage waiting for me to take her out. Thanksgiving is tomorrow and after two days of heavy rain I've got four days of 65 + with sunshine to put lots of "going nowhere miles" on with my buds...
