  1. We are having a wonderful Christmas and I hope you all are also. In SPITE of the fact that: The ring I bought Eileen doesn't fit. It will have to be re-sized. She bought me a new TomTom Rider Version 2 GPS. I like it...I think...it appears to be dead on arrival. Will not power up at all...even after charging for several house. Tried the reset button and other tips but it appears to be dead. Will have to exchange it tomorrow. Now Dylan (my 16 year old son) did OK. In addition to a lot of clothes and etc., he also got his first car. It is a '96 Ford Taurus. Low mileage and nice but ..... it IS a FORD. Hated to do that to him but he will have to live with it.
  2. New here, so not sure where is the best place to post this. I have an '09 RSV and am wondering how to rotate the attena so that I can lay it down. One is okay, the other is pointed towards the truck if you try to lay it down. I looked at it andf it appears that there are 3 differnet junctions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  3. Found a 84 venture with a new paint job, runs great but......charging system doesn't charge.Needs to be charged after daily rides but other than that it appears to be a great bike...and the price is a STEAL..Where would one start looking for this problem?
  4. Yesterday, my computer downloaded and installed an upgrade to my Firefox browser. I now notice that if I refresh the page here at the forum or on the home page, the logos, banners and some most of the thread buttons and etc. go away. When it happens, I can click on forums or home and they come back but a refresh turns them off again. This appears to be totally related to this latest Firefox update and I cannot reproduce the problem with IE7. I will do some research tonight and try to find a fix.
  5. We are readying for our annual long bike trip and was wondering if anyone has ridden to the top of Mount Washington in NH. If so, can you please let me know: 1) Is the road paved or gravel? 2) It appears the road is really narrow. Is it two way and, if so, how much difficulty is there with oncoming traffic? 3) Is it as steep as it appears by their vehicle requirements (must have L or 1 on auto transmission, no Lincoln Continentals prior to 1969, etc.). I'll run it no matter what. However, my 69 year old Dad on his BMW may be a little over cautious. Just curious about what we can expect. Thanks for your input. When we go, I will get the pic for the Scavanger Hunt. RR
  6. Hi, Just ordered three sets of brake pads from Dennis Kirk for my 83 VR....I've searched for posts - found some good stuff on bleeding...is the actual change over much of a problem? It appears all three sets of calipers should come right off...guess I'm looking for any hidden issues. Thanks in advance, Rick
  7. Greetings all. Noticed that I was having trouble keeping tight, the 4 bolts that secure my top box. I'd go for a ride with or without the pillion-in-a-million and after about 30kms I'd notice that the top was 'bouncing' and I could hear a rattle. No matter how often I'd tighten the bolts, the damned things would be loose in no time. Decided to take them out and give them a dose of "Lok-tite", only to find that they had been gradually slamming themselves to death. Appears that as soon as they loosened up and the top box started to bounce, the bolts were being damaged. Have ordered new ones. In the meantime, have a look at the damage to these 3. Whadda y'all reckon?
  8. With all the weather here I really haven't had a chance to get a good look at how the right side mirror is installed on my 93. Got my new mirror, thanks to a fellow member, and it appears that the mirror is bolted from the inside of the fairing. My question, what is involved in getting to those bolts? Thanks DJ
  9. I have had a slow "weep" of antifreeze for a while in my "99. Just a drop or two over a couple of days. Pulled the cooling fin off the left rear cylinder and found a leaking "special plug" (description from the Yamaha parts breakdown). It appears to be a rubber plug with a steel core that has internal threads. Has anyone had this problem and are there instructions available for removal and installation?
  10. I rode my bike through one heck of a thunderstorm Tuesday night. I got home--put my bike in the shed and shut everything down. I rode it several times today and all appeared fine till I jumped on it tonight to return home from our county fair in the dark and found out I had no headlights--upper or lower beams--and I didn't have any instrument lights either. Everything else appears ok-I have my 4 ways and all tail lights and running lights and turn signals. Is there a fuse that could have gotten wet or something simple that may be causing the problems? Thanks for any and all help.
  11. If you are lucky, You learn something new every day. Have you ever wondered why phillips screws (like on carb bowls) on metric bikes always get boogered up or rounded out? Well today I finally found out why..... It appears the Japanese industry standard for phillips screws is different than the US and European standard. Yeah and they use a different phillips screw driver. It appears from the following link that Snap-On carries these items. http://www.katun.com/products/toolsjis.html So does anyone out there have access to a Snap-On truck to validate this? And do they have the hex screw tips for our magnetic drivers. This might keep us from drilling phillip heads off and replacing them with cap screws? Rick
  12. Not much posted here that I can find on oil pressure issues with these bikes. Read the oil level indicator post. Appears not a concern, but have a high mileage unit and wonder if there is any experience out there with this.
  13. I have a 2005 RSTD. went to go for a ride today and when I started the bike up there is gas coming out of what appears to be a overflow tube next to the airfilter. Any help on what would cause this? Tom M
