  1. I'm looking for help. I just purchased an 82 Kawasaki KZ 550 LTD for my wife. It's her starter bike. Bike has 6900 origional miles but has been stored for over 20 years. It starts but needs a carb cleaning among other things. I've removed the carbs but I'm not sure what to do with the tank. It has some rust but not bad. How do I go about cleaning it? Thanks for any help, David
  2. Well, I've been with USAA since I started driving some 30 years ago. But my motorcycle insurance is written by my insurance agency through Progressive. I've been an agent of progressive for a number of years and feel confident in their service. The rates are very competitive as well. They are 1 of 4 different companies I am able to write bikes with. By the way if anyone is interested in motorcycle ins. in Texas please contact me back. I would appreciate and be more than happy to have a new client. Yeah, I know, I'm peddling my wares but hey that's what I do. Thanks, and feel free to ask any questions. David Progressive Agent
  3. You might try what I've done. Basically taken trunk parts from a HD Ultra and welded them to the quick release parts from the RSTD. Then mount the HD Ultra tour pak while maintaing the quick release status of the bike. If you have any questions feel free to ask. You can look here as well as on Youtube.com for my bike. Just look under Royal Star Tour Deluxe on youtube and you will find 2 different videos of my obsession as I call her.
  4. What should I do, I have a motorcycle jack but because I have the center stand it's all tipsy topsy when I try to lift it. There's is no center point that's solid with that center stand in the way. Anyone have any ideas around that.
  5. I can't stop, I can't stop. I've added everything I can think of so far to my bike and I know there's more to be had..gimme gimme gimme, I think I might have a problem. The only thing that helps is knowing I'm not alone.
  6. One last thought. When I went to purchase my leathers. I thought getting a really nice high quality heavy leather set was the way to go. Now I want 2 sets. My leathers feel like I'm walking around with a cow straped to me. I'd recommend getting something in the middle. Just a thought.
  7. I look forward to seeing your final product. If you look at mine you might see there are other ways to do it. My tourpack on my RSTD is detachable as well as my front fairing. I used all the origional hardware so as not to damage the origional bike. There are photos here as well as 2 videos on youtube. Just look under royal star tour deluxe stereo. Anyway love mine, works great, looking forward to seeing your final photos. David
  8. I have an 05 RSTD and had the same problem. Ended up, the brake lever was loose so a small adjustment and all is good. Different bike but something to think about.
  9. I went from the stock......way to quiet. Then to a pair of HD road king pipes....not bad but not quiet there. And finally a pair of Vance n Hines baggers that were made for the HD road king. They don't make them directly for the RSTD. Anyway, finally got the sound I was looking for.....enough to hear them going down the road and loud enough to satisfy when you open em up.
  10. I've got a set up you could try. It's not a venture trunk, but my wife is happy. Check out my page. Let me know if you need any more info, happy to help. The RSTD is a very cool bike. David
  11. I love the Avon's on mine. I've had them on for about 4 months and it really made a change in the way the bike rolled around the turns. I heard about them here and everyone is right about the improvement. Definitely easier to get in and out of the corners. The local shop that put them on for me told me the front was not correct (size wise) for the bike. I allmost imediately noticed a difference, not right away because they told me when you put a new set of tires be careful for a few miles, they tend to be slick at first. Plus, the front looks less fat. I like the more narrow tire. Not to mention, I got the white walls.....love the old scool look. Anyway, get em and take some corners.
  12. That is freekin cool! Very nice......hmmm, now your giving me ideas. GOOD JOB
  13. Thanks everbody for the good words. Yes the front fairing unclips from the bike as origionally intended and with origional hardware. The fairing is a Radio Caddy and the trunk as if everyone didn't already know is for an Ultraglide. I just tore that sticker off the back (actually my wife did that for me) and a local graphics shop made a replacement for me from the Star catalog photo I gave them. Then we put on a venture rack on top. The trunk is detachable using the origional hardware to. I didn't want to ruin the origional versatility of the bike. Thats part of what sold me in the beginning anyway. I didn't want a touring bike all the time. It's taken me some time to get it all together.
  14. I've been enjoying this site for nearly 2 years and have seen some great lookin bikes and read some really great posts from members. I've finally taken photos of my bike and just posted them. Take a look and let me know what you think. I've got a couple videos but I'm not sure how to add those. Any help in that area would be great as well. David
