I would suggest that you have a virus ... slowness, rebooting itself ... common virus trait.

Well!!!!! ... seems like this thread has turned into quite an interesting discussion about a somewhat touchy subject ... much more so than I anticipated when I made the first post. It's been a very interesting read so far....and nobody has gotten their shirt in a knot....yet (j/k)

For the most part, I am in agreement but I think the issue on this site is ... that it is quite easy for someone's child to read these posts without the parent knowing it ... so, keeping the posts "clean" helps to keep the crap from their eyes...at least on here. The problem is that there is so much "openness" in the world today, anything "we" try and keep from our kids has probably already been seen by them elsewhere. Well, at least we have the ability to try and set an example...something I'm not necessarilly so good at with kids...but I'm working on it.

As the Strat evolves, I am starting to like it more ... as for the current model ... the one with the fairing and the shorty windshield... I really don't care for "all that black" ... it needs more CHROME!!! and some other color choices... but hey,, we can't ask for too much now can we? (at least it doesn't have a cassette player!)

here's another suggestion that, according to certain people I know (not me of course) ... smoke a big "fatty" about 1/2 hour before going to bed....

It's a good thing we know what you're talking about..... :rotf:

My '85 chewed the splines at the pumpkin end. I had no idea of the need to take the shaft out lube them because it had a grease nipple...which we all thought did the job. Not so I discovered... those splines were totally dry and rusted to the point that they just stripped. Lucky for me I was able to find a complete pumpkin for $80.

Just to expand on what you're saying.... take Yamaha as the example ... they don't just make motorcycles... they make watercraft, quads, snow machines, piano's .... the list goes on.... does Harley make any of those other things? No. Since Motorcycles is Harley's "only thing", it makes sense that their marketing of that product far exceeds any other manufacturer (such as Yamaha) of the same product line. Yamaha will put the marketing bucks into the products that they know they can sell the most of ... and that definately isn't a touring style motorcycle. I don't know about bike shops down USA way but around here, almost every "name brand" bike shop you go into is chock full of dirt bikes, crotch rockets, ATV's, etc .... and all the paraphanalia that goes along with it ... for example, racks and racks of sport bike and dirt bike riding gear and helmets ... very little for the touring or cruising crowd. In direct contrast to that is the Harley dealers ... everything is geared towards the cruiser/tourer style rider.

I just eat a big supper and that generally knocks me out about 1/2 hour later LOL

PG means Parental Guidance .... meaning it's up to the parent if a child should view/read the material... so that leaves the decision "to post or not to post" up to each individual's interpretation... then it's up to Don and the moderator's to set the standard and dump what is not acceptable (according to them) and we stand by their decision. am I right or am I wrong?
-
You got that right ... in fact, I am here so much that I've forgotten that there is other sites ... (there are, aren't there??)

I guess I been here too long as I'm feeling a sense of "Déjà vu " Anyhoo ... when I was around 8, my cousin who had a big old Harley (I think it was about a 1952 model) that had the big ole springs at the back of the seat...took me for a ride. He hit a bump real hard and I went sailing straight up in the air .... I've been hooked on motorcycles ever since. When I was 12 my buddies and I would sneak out at night and go joyriding on their dad's and other guys mopeds. I didn't think much about bikes after that until I was around 20 and a buddie had a BSA Lightening which he let me "try out" ... well, I just had to become a biker but I never got a bike until 3 years later when I bought my 1969 Yamaha 125 twin street bike brand new. Aside from the odd 2 or 3 year "break" between bikes, I been riding ever since.

ahhhhh... at first I thought you were "playing into" a bit of a "game" and gettin me to post something that was "across the PG line" .... to catch me in my own thread.... yanno... all in fun of course. I guess we all have a "baseline" that we use for determining PG (above or below) and that line can well be different from one person to the next. I am not going to single out anyone's posts that I felt were either borderline or crossed the line. That would only start a "pi$$ing match" I did feel; however, that somebody needed to bring the topic to the forefront other than a moderator just as a gentle "reminder" and to show that at least one person was "noticing" ... and I'm thinking others might have been also.

At first I didn't believe you (coz it's in my nature) so I went and studied the parts diagram..... Thanks for correcting me (and whoever else states the same) ... as I now see what you're talking about. The question I now have is... why is there an "oil seal" on the shaft itself that is forward of the splines? Was this designed this way on the MKII so that a) any grease would not fly out and b) so that if the inner seal did wear out, the outer seal would cover it's a$$..?

YES! You will only have to lube the U-joint splines coz the pumpkin end is lubed by the oil in the pumpkin. When you put it all back together, follow the instructions somewhere in this site... meaning, insert the axle without the tire/wheel and then slowly tighten the acorn nuts on the pumpkin/driveshaft.

Dang... and I was just about to put my 2 cents in... oh wait... I already did ...

And thus you have a Venture engine ... and they can do the same with the current vMax engine ... downscale it and put it into a touring bike.

I made a big mistake years ago when I had my now ex-wife attend a computer class I was teaching. As an instructor, I had often been complimented on my patience by my students. Well, I dunno what happened to my patience that day but the operative word in here is "ex-wife" ... :rotf: :rotf:
