Since I am using a 5-wire, one of them is a ground directly to the bike. I wired the trailer that way so that every light is wired to the ground wire going to the bike.
-
I had to chuckle about the road signs... I mean.... there's an "S" corner ahead??? noooo..... LOL
-
I completely rewired my "rebuild" trailer ... used a 5 wire connector to the bike and ran that to the loom adjacent the battery. Must have 14 different colors of wires but they all work LOL.

Thanks guys for the feedback ... I think I'll "lube my ball"... (and the mechanical portion of the retainer) and try to not get any of it on my pants .
-
now Randy.... that's just TOO MUCH INFORMATION!!! :sign20:
-
no, this isn't a joke ... but I figgured it would get somebody's attention I'll admit I am not very experienced when it comes to towing a trailer so I got to wondering.... do you put grease in the trailer tongue where the tow ball goes or just leave it dry?

DITTO On any given weekend ride, I will see tons of riders and frankly, it's getting to be a PITA waving at all of them... so, I wave at a few, if I think about it and it's convenient.

Pulled into one of our regular gas stations/rest stops on our ride last weekend (the Chevron at Princeton for those who know the area) and parked beside one of the many Harleys there. Right away I noticed something dripping from underneath it. I asked one of the guys hanging around chatting who's bike it was and then informed him of the drip. He said "yeah, I know... I overfilled the gas..." OK, so here's his bike, parked in a stall which is asphalt, dripping gas (and we all know what gas does to asphalt)... we spent about 20 minutes there and it was still dripping when we left. Obviously he either didn't know what gas does to asphalt or he didn't care... I suspect the latter. Talk about stoooopid!

ahhhhhhhhhh... pretty obvious I've never had them off eh?? LOL 'nuther addition to my "knowledge base" I saw a Victory (can't recall the model) with a cool custom paint job and diamond-cut fins ... it looked real sharp!
-
just a dumb comment .... why would there be downtime anyway ... they serve no real functional purpose so the scoot is not disabled when the "fake fins" are removed. Having said that tho ... I wouldn't be caught dead riding without them.... ewwwww.... "NakedRider" !!

What do I put in here?
SilvrT replied to VentureBob's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Ditto that. I thought I was doing a good thing on my '85 by pumping grease into there....until after 2 years the splines on the pumpkin end disentegrated (the bike was over 15 yrs old by this time). When I took it apart, there was grease in the middle of the shaft but the splines on both ends were completely dry and the pumpkin end splines were all rusted and worn off to the point the shaft just spun freely. Clarification, it was the female spline on the pumpkin that was shot, not the spline on the driveshaft itself.... I was lucky to find a used pumpkin for $80 that was still in good shape. It would have cost me more to have the part replaced. -
Dat's da same one I gots ... hey Jack! How are you 2 doing these days? Rarely see much of you here anymore. Was there something in that tin of Tim Horton's coffee??? LOL
-
WOW !!! WAY COOL !! FAR OUT !! I like it! ... can you post a pic showing the whole bike? :thumbsup2:

Once again... thanks guys 'n gals for all the comments/compliments. Those of you who "do your own thing" such as I have done with this trailer know the sence of pride and joy one gets and the appreciation of others compliments. What a great bunch you all are!
-
Don't know yet...haven't road tested it. The trailer unloaded weighs appx 180lbs (going by factory specs) and there's maybe 5lbs at the hitch. It certainly looks bigger and heavier than it actually is.
-
not yet... but maybe this coming weekend. I still have to register and licence it.
-
Got the hitch hooked up, wiring and lights all done, interior finished off .... she's all ready to roll!! (prev post) http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=51072 Finished pics... Model number HS-8154B-OF I asked them if my membership here qualified me for any discount. They responded back "no" but are giving me 10% off "just for asking". So, when you order something, ask for a discount... you may just get one!

Good ideas ... but as has been pointed out, there's the issue of disposing of the old oil. I wonder if a guy found one of those "speedy lube shops" and did the change in their parking lot...would they look after disposing of the old oil & filter?
-
hey Dave... yep, I knew you had them ... I'm running the same pressure. I didn't put the 170 on the rear tho... stayed with the stock size. I'll have to check re the passenger vs solo thing... I hardly ever ride without Nina on the back. Question ... these tires are rated for 40 psi max I believe ... I wonder how much over that a guy could safely go?
-
Sure you are Rick .... you're adding your interesting comments which are always a good read so, ramble on my friend!
-
We got away from that over the weekend.... lots of twisties once out of the lower mainland.
-
I'm thinking you're right about that ... could also be that I don't have the right air pressure. The tread is fairly aggressive....
