  1. Counting the days!!
  2. Time to start checking things. When you turn the key on, do you hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds? Spray a little starter fluid in the air cleaner vents.....does it start momentarily? Likely a plugged filter or pump, if you didn't hear it running. If the fuel system is functioning, pull the plugs (one at a time) and ground the plug while trying to start the bike....do you have spark on each one? (a darker area is helpful on this) If not you will need to check wires, resister caps, coils and TCI. Air is the least likely but if you have a K&N filter is it properly oiled? Hook a carbtune up if you have one and check that you have vacuum on all four carbs. Check your fuses. Make sure you have power on both sides (check both the fuses and the holders) Good luck!
  3. Look forward to seeing your schedule! Should we get your western US home ready for you?
  4. Three vital components to the engine running, Air - Fuel - Spark. Check each and see which is the problem. But first, check the kill switch!!!
  5. Still the best site on the web! Thanks for the great work.
  6. Count me in....just send me all of your personal information so I can send you the money......LOL
  7. I haven't tried the Top Stop. I looked it up and found it in Cedar City, Utah. I've eaten numerous times in Cedar City....I'll have to add it to the list of places to check out. Cedar City is a special little town and home to the Shakespeare Festival if you're ever down that way again.
  8. The weather has held off for just a little longer (sorry Buffalo) here in Salt Lake, so, we decided to ride 60 miles to the south for lunch at one of our favorite spots - The Family Tree in Santaquin, UT. It was 55+ during the entire ride down and back. There was a bit of wind but still had a wonderful time. Super slab on the way down so we would be on time to meet up with Pegasus1300 and Juan but then enjoyed the back roads on the way home. I guess I'm about ready to accept the winter is coming.....I do like having water during the summer months.
  9. HAPPY THANKSGIVING to the wonderful friends at VR.org!! Have a fantastic day.
  10. A few things to look into, just in case. Remove the air filter box and start the bike (it will run crappy without the air filter). Look down into the carbs and verify that all of the sliders are fluttering (moving). They may be sticking. If they aren't all moving, using a screwdriver, gently pry the sliders outward. Next, remove the diaphram covers on the carbs. Double check the diaphrams for holes or tears. Remove the sliders that might have been sticking and clean it up. While you have the carbs apart, you can put in new washers to adjust the needles (suggested above). There are threads on the site about how to do this. Put it all back together and reinstall the air filter & box. Back the sync screws out and start the bike. It will run poorly. Adjust the rpms to 1000 and do a sync. Good luck!
  11. Sorry for your loss. No matter our age, it's always hard to loss a parent. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Dave
  12. Awesome! I look forward to getting to know the new site.
  13. In the long run it will be better and easier to have both sites using the same software. This site is the people, not the look or features! Thanks for how much work you do for us.
  14. The original MKII design has a single antenna with a center load and the coax is hardwired into the antenna (no connector). The end in the right fairing has a Motorola connector (like for the old radio type) that plugs into the splitter. From the splitter the antenna is connector to the CB with a short cable with a PL-259 connector and the other cable goes to the radio via the multi connector under the radio control. One of best things I did was the Marshall Mod and installed two antennas and ran a cable directly to the the CB and another directly to the radio (maybe through the splitter - don't remember). If you don't have the CB it should be easy to hook up the cable to the splitter. Dave
  15. Either way works for me! We can even invite Vic and that other machine he got.LOL How many tents with your yard hold?
  16. Antenna for radio only is much less sensitive than if you have a CB. For radio you can twist and wrap the cable just don't short it out and it will likely work fine. If you have the splitter still on your bike, I think it uses the motorola connector and you can get those at Radio Shack and run a new cable.
  17. I told Jan what you posted, her response.....sounds like the start of another Venture Roundup!
  18. Green could be good or bad. Makes people think of money......have much they have or how much chrome costs!!
  19. Glad you're relatively ok. Prayers sent for a quick recovery!
  20. Great information. I guess I need to ask the question better. I'm looking to go I80 to the coast and then go on the PCH either North or South and then return back home via I80. Hope that makes getter sense.
  21. Pull the plug and ground it with the bike running and see if you get a spark. Good spark, make sure the cylinder is getting fuel. Bad spark (likely) check the plug, cap and coil. Careful not to get shocked!
  22. Hey I you were going to go ride the Pacific Coast Hwy, would you go north or south? Thinking about next season already! Dave
  23. The trip to Mt. Rushmore was fantastic! We fought headwinds on the way east of the first part of the trip and again on our way west on I90 between Sturgis and Sheridan, WY. The windshield protected us very well and Jan had no issues at all during the entire trip. http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=88888 I think I'll be in big trouble if I ever try to change the shield out. Thanks! Dave
  24. Steve (M61A1MECH) - Did I get my bypass from you?
  25. Dion (djh3) in Florida makes them. I believe there are two versions of the by-pass. 1-complete, no longer need the key and 2-partial, still use the key but the electrical load for other electrical needs are by-passed thus relieving the stress on the key switch and reducing the possibility of key failure. I installed the second option. Everything went together very easy (plug and play) and works just as advertised. Dave
