  1. I purchased my '99 in Jan 2014 and paid $3600.00. Been a great deal so far. Mine had about the same mileage and tires were in good shape but not new. I wish I could have bought a Mustang seat and backrest for $300.00....LOL Sounds like a good deal. Good luck! Dave
  2. Take the same ride again.....switch bikes and see if the rider makes the difference.
  3. I had the largest Clearview shield on my '86, with a vent and loved it for me and the wife! I'm now using the largest, vented F4 shield on my '99 and it works fantastic. Both are good companies to work with. Dave
  4. Dave I know you said your were hesitant to ask others for a place to stay. If you come through Salt Lake City, no request is necessary.....YOU'RE INVITED!! Let us know when you'll be by. Dave (Utadventure)
  5. When I picked up the '99 it had aftermarket pipes on. I found them too loud for me tastes. The first couple of tanks I got 40+ mpg. I re-installed the oem pipes and I like the sound but have consistently got mid to upper 30s mpg. I'm going to repack the aftermarket mufflers and see if I get a happy medium.
  6. Having pushed the pistons in, it may just need a little time to push enough fluid into the caliper and extend the pistons out.
  7. I don't know how far it reaches or if there are dead spots but an iPhone has a free "find a friend" app.
  8. Laugh now.....get even later!
  9. I paid $3600 in Jan 2014 for my '99 with 83k on the odo.
  10. Doug- Not a lot of choices from Winnemucca to SLC other than I-80. During the summer it can be pretty hot in the desert so travel early and hydrate often. Elko and Wendover are your biggest stops along the way. Leaving Salt Lake, I would suggest going through Kamas, Ut via I-80/Hwy 40/UT248. From Kamas you can go to Evanston, WY via UT150 over Mirror Lake Road. Beautiful ride and great views. Once in Evanston you can go to Jackson via US89 or US189, both join back together south of Jackson. Depending on timing and other things going on I may be able to ride part way and, I we're home, we have some room. Just don't believe anything Condor and Lone Eagle have to say about us!! Dave
  11. John is good to work with. Here's what I found on the other forum (didn't need to sign up). HD FORUM 10% DISCOUNT CODE - hdforum
  12. Because brake fluid is hygroscopic (absorbs water), it's recommended to change the fluid out regularly. Many here have mentioned every other year. Having old fluid, in the caliper only, shouldn't be a problem if you do this. I usually use an eye dropper and remove the old fluid from the reservoir and refill with fresh then pump the fresh into the line and caliper. You shouldn't have any air issues as long as you keep enough in the reservoir as you go.
  13. Pete- I have a set of carbs from an '86 on the shelf. When my set had some issues, I put this set in and went on a long trip. I had the original set rebuilt while I was gone and swapped them out after the trip. Make me a fair offer and I'll get them out to you. Dave
  14. Absolutely Skid!! Prayer works! I don't always receive the answer I want, but I always am blessed with that which He knows is best for me. I will continue to remember you in my prayers.
  15. My bad.....I stand corrected! Thanks Don
  16. Cracker- The international rally is held every other year and the members get together. This year is in St. Charles, MO. We have members that come from USA, Canada, Iceland, and Australia! Snarley, I was looking for the itinerary....can you help me out? Dave
  17. I double checked and the radiator is sitting in the shed. Dave
  18. Michael- Sorry about your accident. I hope you heal quickly!! Though I might chime in about getting the old gal back on the road..... Your forks might not be bent. You may have twisted the triple trees out of alignment causing the pull to one side. The lack of balanced fluid in the front forks may do the same thing. If you don't want to rebuild the anti-dive, now could be a good time to put on the block off plates and add Progressive Springs (I love mine) I have some parts off of an '86 (including the frame/rebuilt title though), turn signals, front fender and I'm pretty sure I have the radiator. You're welcome to help me clean out the shed a little. The colors won't match but can be painted! Hope to see that you and the bike are back in riding form soon. Dave
  19. We can always find a comfy bed and throw another potato in the soup!
  20. Be sure and say hi on your way through SLC. Depending on the timing we may have some Aussies here with us! Hwy 14A from Dayton, WYO to Lovell, WYO is a great ride....almost as good as Beartooth Pass. Dave
  21. Are there any members close by that can let you test their functioning TCI in your bike (and your TCI in their bike)?
  22. We're going to have to start referring to her as "Amazing Aussie Annie"
  23. I'm talking about the plug the radio set down into. Under that is the amp. It wouldn't hurt to open, clean and put some dielectric grease in the connectors there. FYI the cables going from the amp out are the same as what was used for the old AT type for computer keyboards (pre-PS2). You can still buy AT keyboard extension cables as replacements if needed.
  24. I had intermittent times with my '86 where the sound would come and go in one of the speakers (both dash and helmet). After a while the plug where the radio seats into, the plastic weakens and starts to sag a bit, not allowing the plugs to make a full connection. Pull the radio and, if needed, shim the plug socket a little bit. Glad you're back riding!
