  1. The secondary fuse box is usually found tucked behind the battery more to the right side of the bike (near the bracket for the false tank cover). It has a cover over the blade style fuses.
  2. i know this thread is a bit old......but......has anyone had a chance to use the Stinger Single Trailer?
  3. Fuel filter and fuel line are cheap. Sometimes the old fuel line will separate and collapse inside.
  4. A universal joint or wobble head extension make it easier.
  5. I read at one time that in some locations, passing light have to work in concert with the high beam ..... off during low beam/on with high beam..... exception would be during daylight hours. That is possibly the reason for the ability to have it on sometimes and off at others. Dave
  6. At my house, we call them cottonwood trees!!
  7. I have a frame from an '86 in my yard.....he's welcome to it (with salvage title).
  8. Who says you have to trade one for the other......Jan's car is at 175K and coughing along. I found a used Toyota Solara convertible for a fair price. We've gone a couple of times while it still cold on the bike but great in the car. It gets cold......put up the top. The bike isn't going anywhere without me on it!
  9. Like "puc" mentioned, use a screw driver from the inside of the carbs to check or free up any slides. Trying to pull on them from the diaphram side can result in breaking of the slides. Good luck!! Dave
  10. So glad Z and family are safe! Let us know how we can help. Dave
  11. Welcome home boss!
  12. Is the shock from an '86 the same? I have one that i believe is functional.
  13. The Marshall Mod is mainly for the purpose of removing the single antenna/splitter into two antennas on the 1st Gen Ventures. The 2nd Gen Ventures already have a divided antenna system, in theory you should be able to replace the antennas with the Firestik II (with adjustable tip). I haven't looked, but you might be able to use the existing brackets. In addition to the new antennas you might want to replace the cable between the antenna and the CB with an 18' one so that you get the correct length for the matching of the antenna to the CB. You can then adjust the tip to match it using an SWR meter.
  14. I have a '99 and I'm confident that it has been replaced, as there is no longer a schrader valve for the rear shock. Dave
  15. Dang auto-correct (oh shoot, this isn't text, is it)
  16. Eck- If you have a student in the family, they can purchase a copy at the book store for 3 computers. or If you have a family member that is in management at one of the special companies associated with Microsoft, they have a program. I got Office 2012 through my family that works at FedEx for $10
  17. I had a sticker for the national parks so I laminated it, punched holes and zip tied it on the forks. Maybe?
  18. Welcome to the forum!! 1) The brake system. The brakes are weak on the the 1st Generation Venture. A few things you can do is to change the fluid. Make sure the pads are high quality (there are some cheap ones that don't work as well). Many have changed the brake lines to stainless steel to eliminate the flexibility of the original lines. Others have delinked the left front and rear brakes and then linked the two front brakes for more front stopping power. 2) Radiator. Below the radiator is a bypass valve. These bikes have been know to weep some from there when the bike sets for a while. The changes in air pressure will cause expansion/contraction of the fluid. Check that the valve isn't in the bypass position and that the reserve fluid is at the correct level (in the right faring panel). Good Luck! Dave
  19. I don't know how you've tested the cruise, but some important information I learned after I purchased my '99 RSV....... The cruise only functions in 4th and 5th gears, and then only between 45-80 (going from memory here). If you're testing the cruise in another gear or at lower speeds, it will not work. Also, when setting the cruise, it typically drops off a little to start with and needs to be adjusted a little afterwards. Lastly, if the cruise is working to hard (like in a strong headwind) if it drops off too much, it will stop working. Good Luck! Dave
  20. Should be easy to check by unplugging the bypass and reconnecting the original connector. Puts the load back through the switch but will confirm if the bypass is the problem.
  21. Another possibility is the key switch. Assuming you don't already have a switch bypass installed, the power goes through the key switch. They are known to fail. Something worth checking out. Good luck!!
  22. the Dennis- Just in case someone else reads this and doesn't understand the risk to your CB unit.....the antenna should be matched using a SWR meter to reduce the amount of frequency return to the CB unit. Once you remove the top, unless you replace it in the proper (same) position, you will change the match and create added stress on the CB which can damage the electronics over time. Feedback occurs during transmission not while receiving. Dave
  23. I'm not aware of any antennas (shorter or otherwise) that will screw in directly. I installed the "Marshall Mod" on my '86 years ago. This consists of removing the single antenna and splitter and replacing it with two Firestiks (4' with adjustable tip). Good luck!!
  24. Kind offer Paul!
