  1. A Caveat against using Wal-mart for a money order. I had occasion to receive a wal-mart money order for $800 and found out that it is their policy not to cash them... THEIR OWN MONEY ORDERS. I had to practically threaten the management to cash one and finally they did but then wanted to charge me for cashing it. We had another go-around and finally under duress they cashed it without charging me. The next one I received I just deposited in my own bank. NEVER AGAIN!
  2. I tried screwing a light bulb into my oil lamp but couldn't make it light. Do you think it was a bad bulb???
  3. 38 in Septermber
  4. I know my wife works hard over a desk and computer for hours on end so I got her an hour gift certificate for a massage. She loves massages as it keeps her shoulder muscles from being so tensed up all the time.

  6. To all, My apologies to all for a recent post (not mentioned). I understand the thread was deleted which was proper and in order. My intention was NOT to cause dissention among any members who hold other views on any particular subject. Please do not respond to this but let it eventually go the way of all other threads, but accept my apology as sincere. Now, go have a beer (non-alcoholic and at your own expense). Marv.
  7. Prayers also from Alabama
  8. Sherry, I don't know you and I didn't know Tom but that doesn't stop me from offering my condolences. When you go to the hearing, you mentioned you would have someone with you. May I suggest, in addition to Eck's suggestion, that you take a small tape recorder with you and set it right up on the table so they KNOW they're being recorded and don't let them talk you out of it. That is your right. It will give you reference much better later than one's memory of what occurred. God bless you and your family Marv.
  9. RIDE IT! I bought my '97 RSTD in Fresno, CA; flew out there for $200 and had a ball riding it back to Montgomery, AL. I made it in 4 days averaging over 500/day.
  10. My '97 had fishtails on it when I bought it . Nice sound but I get a lot of backfiring on deceleration and wondering if the closed down opening are retaining gas pressure that is causing the backfiring. Been thinking of taking them off and see if it still backfires.
  11. I answered his original post. Takes all kinds to make a world.
  12. I'm sorry you feel that way. For my twenty-two years of service I like to think that I was benefitting the public that I served. Writing tickets is just one of the ways. Tickets are usually for helping errant drivers remember the rules of the road and the safety of others that they disregarded. Usually an officer in the cases of lesser infractions (non moving violations or moving violation of lesser consequence) can use his own discretion and a lot of it depends on the attitude of the driver as to whether or not the officer feels he can get the message across. With some drivers, personally speaking, I felt that due to their lousy attitude, the only way to get their driving habits to change was by hitting their pocketbook as a verbal warning would have just been laughed at after the contact was finished. BTW, revenue was the last thing on my mind while working traffic.
  13. Silvrt, We'd never laugh at you; we're laughing WITH you. You couldn't expect to know unless you either had been one or had heard the term somewhere.
  14. Beside me; just curious
  15. Sounds to me like they want to drop security at the border using commerce as an excuse when in reality, it will make it easier for terrorists. They won't have to resort to those old dirt roads or cow trails they now use to cross. They'll be able to travel by car over paved roads cause no one will check them; but never mind that because intercontinental commerce is improved.
  16. First of all, you should use a spell check on your writing, especially if you have a college education. It will give even more credibility to your writing. This is one area I am always concerned about in that a person's writing tends to show how much attention was paid while getting the education they claim to have. (No personal slam intended) Secondly, you do not state the charge against your daughter but only refer to it as a "false" charge, and there is an inference that it has to do the the menial charges that officers use to create more funds. As a retired law enforcement officer having over twenty-two years of service, I would agree that there are some jurisdictions that may use tickets as a means of collecting revenue, but I believe they are in the minority. I have never, in all my time, been given a quota that I had to meet and neither have I heard of any other officer receiving such orders. I say that to say this, If and I use a big IF, an officer is actually working his eight hours of shift, and dealing with the amount of traffic there is on the roads, and cannot see at least three violations in that time, then he is not really working. Thirdly, you say you made four trips to talk to the officer, the court clerk and the prosecuting attorney to get this resolved. In my opinion you wasted much of their time as well as your own until you finally realized that the place to resolve it IS in court. I do agree that we are being taxed out of house and home, but I think your approach to it is wrong. What we need to do is get rid of some of the lazy, good-for-nothing legislators in each of the states and the federal, and get honest people who will serve the people for a term and then get out instead of making a career at the governmental feeding trough. Hope my answer wasn't too harsh; I don't mean to be offensive.
  17. I REMEMBER WHEN... in the early '60's I paid $.189 for a gallon of gas. It took less than $2.00 to fill my volkswagon.
  18. Cowpuc, I'd like to hear more also.
  19. If anyone remembers the Smokehouse Grill in Millbrook where we had an M&E a short time back, it burned. They had a kitchen fire that kind of took over and it took the fire dept 40 minutes to put the fire out. Too bad, they had good food and large accomodations for groups.
  20. Check out Snopes.com. You'll find he didn't say all of that. As I remember, there was only one line attributed to him, the last one about the statue of Liberty.
  21. The Russians haven't paid off ALL their debt. They still owe the U.S. for all the equipment, food, supplies, etc. that we furnished them in WWII, probably hundreds of millions if you figure the interest. The only country that has paid off their WWII debt to us is Finland.

Hart, First thing I'd do IF I were you is to change that license plate to Alabama where you can ride year around.
  23. I looked up the installation directions for '97 through 2008 on the speedohealer site as you listed but cannot see anything that resembles what is listed.
  24. Speedohealer???
  25. Checked my speedometer today with the GPS and with speedo needle right on 60, GPS read 59.4. Can't get much closer than that.
