Individual K&N Filters
MikeZ06Allen replied to MikeZ06Allen's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks for the responses. I ,too, have had very fast street bikes and my goal is not to make it into a VMax with luggage but I am also not overly concerned with noise or loss of mileage. Put it this way, I own three other vehicles F250, Corvette and Jeep. The quietest is the Jeep and the most fuel efficient is the Vette at 26 mpg with over 400 RWHP. The Vette and truck have extensive modifications so I am very familiar with how changes propogate down the line. I have an expectation of performance and right now I know there are areas that can be improved upon in the 1st Gen. The technology is over 20 years old and new components with new technology can be utilized to improve the bike. Hell the VMax community has been doing it for years with some successes and some miscues but, by large, improvements to make a truly great machine. Keep in mind all modifications are done with a holistic approach and I think about them long and hard before pulling the trigger. The intent of this thread is gain some knowledge as to the part numbers and such needed to make the modifications to the intake side of the equation before moving on the carbs, clutch, starter clutch, resonator/collector and mufflers. -
I am thinking about changing out some key components of my bike. The first area will be the air filters. I want to go with separate filters for each carb. After some research I have come up with a K&N part number of RU-2989. Is this the correct PN for the four separate filters? Of course the next question will be what jets to use to keep the A/F ratio correct? Followed by replacing the resonator/collector with the Mark's Pipe component and free flowing mufflers. Thoughts welcome.

OK folks me and the bike are back to our daily commutes. It was amazing how simple it was to repalce the broken clutch lever. The cover and one bolt/nut combo. Wish everything was that easy. Thanks for all the well wishes and now I can get back to planning future projects: Barnett Spring Upgrade New Windshield Marks Pipe Resonator Replacement Kuryakin Highway Pegs Rivco Filter Conversion Peg Extensions and I will be repairing and repainting parts of my bike as the weather warms up, thinking of bonding carbon fiber mat for some accents. More to come.

Now that is funny; I don't care what you ride that was funny....ok moving on:cool10:

Well put and I would like to add, after a recent encounter with the pavement, remember the conditions in which you are riding. Cooler temps mean your tires, be it C/T or MC, will not have the traction as in warmer temps. Believe me it takes awhile to get your tires warm enough to push them to their limits. Cold asphalt + cool tires + urge to drag pegs = Hello Pavement Not saying that was my scenario :whistling:but I think we get the point.

Yep I liked the folks there as well and was sad to see them going out of business. Although for anyone in the area it might be a good time to pickup that new bike you have always wanted. Just my $.02 Looks like I will have to find another dealer

Is this normal?

Thanks for all the support guys; just another example of the great prople here. As far as mods; Earl has visited me for my own personal MD back in October and we did a host of things to the bike. Although I will probably switch out the clutch configuration to the Barnett due to how I like a clutch to feel but I am far from done . More to come so stayed tuned. -

Thanks Earl, As soon as you are up to it we can discuss the parts and modifications to my scoot; no rush at the moment. I am just gonna fix the clutch lever and ride it as is until spring. Then I will replace pieces and parts but PM me what the parts are worth and I will get payment to you. We will worry about shipping later. cap'n eddie, donation made so get off my case already -
Side Vent Block Off Plates
MikeZ06Allen replied to MikeZ06Allen's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Gary, I could not possibly begin to derive a price commensurate with the sentimental value associated with said block-out plates. Besides I have a MK II so I am not sure these would work. -

Send me the details and I will gladly comply. How is the fee assessed? Length of skid, speed, percentage of total operational damage? Or just a flat rate? -

Can that fix my sore ribs too? Speaking of shaking things loose -
Ok last Friday I dumped the bike, I am fine just pissed my scoot isn't in mint condition anymore; although the scraps do add a bit of character. Anyway, I digress, is it normal for a raw gas smell and hard start after a tip over? I assume the answers to both are yes due to the balck magic of carbs. I ask this because as soon as I could get the bike back up and on the center stand I fired her up to confirm there was no case damage. Initial start was fine but about 20 minutes later after a shutdown of a few minutes it took quite a while to start (suppose it was flooded). I did find out the tilt sensor works great though. Anything else I should check before putting her back on the road? Thanks

Here here; so true.

While in the Air Force I also sang the National Anthem hundreds of times for basically any official base function. I considered it an honor and made sure I got it right. I also did it unaccompanied so any flaw would have stuck out like a turd in a punch bowl (talk about pressure) so TD is absolutely correct; It ain't easy but on the same token don't mess with the lyrics or tempo and DO NOT make it an audition to show off your range. Show the song some respect for what it stands for. I say send the money she was going to be paid to the Veteran's Administration. Ok climbing down from the soapbox; can someone get me a ladder?

Surprisely the mirror took the least damage; it is scrapped on the edge but still serviceable. I say surprisely because once everything stopped and I assessed all appendages were still in place, the bike was resting on the crash bars and mirror (sans clutch lever that was several feet away). Funny how, what I thought was the flimsiest piece of the fairing, the mirror survived almost unscrapped.

Last Friday on my way home from work I dumped the bike at about 30 MPH . I managed to only get a sore rib but my VR has severe scraps on the left front and rear crash bars, mirror and front fairing and snapped off the clutch lever. Not exactly sure what caused the skid but I suspect the pre-treatment VDOT puts down ahead of storms or maybe a spot of sand/salt that escaped my notice. I am definately happy I had on my "armored" jacket/gloves and jeans or the scraps on the bike would be matched by my own scraps. Guess my guardian angel was working overtime that day. Any day you can walk away from a spill is a good day although I prefer days with no spills. Located a clutch lever on EBay so I will back in the saddle as soon as I get the lever.

You sir are entitled to voice your opinion because myself and others here have put our lives on the line to ensure that privilege; you are welcome. MiCarl, Typically I chose not to get involved in discussions of politics, religion or money but here I am making an exception. 1. A Disabled Veteran is a person, who in the service to their country, that has suffered a disability from that service and not from injuries or such after their service time. So every cent we can get to these individuals has been earned a thousand fold. 2. Most Active Duty personnel in this country are considered as living below the proverty line; so there is a huge misconception that folks in the military are living "fat on the hog" and therefore we need to cut more money from their budgets. 3. Freedom isn't free; ask a Vet better ask a Diabled Vet struggling to make a living when more benefits are reduced. Wanna reduce federal spending then we need to quit trying to be the policemen/women of the world. Remember it is the politicians that decide we go to war not the military. OK rant over; back to your regularly scheduled web surfing.

Got to ride in to work today with the temps topping out at 7 degrees this morning here in Manassas, VA. Yeah my bike was very cold natured this morning but once I got to I-95 and got up to 80 mph she was singing. Heck only got frostbite on four of ten fingers so it was a good ride I really have to look into some heated gloves if the temps don't start to go up soon. Either that or move to the Florida Keys

NICE and so true. Yeah I proudly served in the AF, my decision to join the AF as I had my choice of any branch and it amazed me how much real estate some bases dedicated to MWR and their golf courses. BTW, I believe it is a two stroke penalty

I haven't invested in a heated jacket or anything for that matter. I just wear lots of layers. I must confess I probably would not still be riding if my bike did not have a full fairing and heat vents, It is awesome so many folks are still enjoying their rides even in the winter. Drop me a PM or email if anyone is in the NOVA area.

Comments range from: Why? I like to ride; no other explanation needed. Are you nuts? It is flippin cold out. Cold is relative, after awhile you can't feel anything anyways. How do you stay warm? I tell them with enough clothes you can survive almost anything. Man; I wish my wife would let me buy a motorcycle. All I could do was nod. My favorite: A small child in a car seat while his Mom was yanking on the cell phone, rolled down his window and asked if I could take him home; he was apparently tired of shopping. I feel your pain was my reply.
