  1. I have the same color bike and did the same thing on the left side. I did a light sanding with fine sandpaper used a small tube of filler to build it up to the right shape and bought some spray touch up paint that was a close match. You cant tell it was damage unless you know where it is and look really close. I am not a paint and body guy so if you are good at handy work you can do it.
  2. I am an NRA certified pistol instructor and have many different guns including the P11. It is cheap with heavy trigger pull but goes bang every time. Very light and snappy gun well suited to a truck or car gun. Not pleasant for plinking or target shooting. Go to their web site and read about the fluf and buff for the gun. Once you go to a high quality firearm you will not want to carry this gun. That was one of the first guns I carried for about a year. I have since moved through many different makes and settled on a compact 1911. I suggest you go to a range where you can rent different models when you want to move up so you can get a feel for what you like.
  3. You would be hard pressed to find non resistor plugs. I removed the resistors from the plug wires and it eliminated rough idle and stalling at idle without affecting the radio at all.
  4. I use a piece of metal screen the same way but I imbed it so you can't see it.
  5. I put mine on the day after I recieved it. Wow what a differance. Feels way more stable now. Best investment ive put into the bike.
  6. Good luck on the trip. I get Techron at Walmart all the time. I like to use it on the bike when I buy cheap gas. Shell and Chevron gas comes with it. It seams to keep things clean pretty well.
  7. Pull the carbs and soak the hole thing over night. then use carb cleaner to blast through the idle scew openings and you should see it come through the carb throat. If that doesnt work try spraying through the ports inside the carb throat and observe it coming through the idle screw opening. The ports are very small and you may have to open the buterfly to see the idle ports in the carb. Put it back and sync and adjust and you should be good to go.

    Oh deer!

About 20 years ago when my bike was new I took a trip up the Blue Ridge Parkway with some friends. When we were in slow traffic I saw some movement on the right side and looked over to see a black bear running staight toward me. The traffic was so heavy I had nowhere to go so all I could do was break and the bear ran between me and my friend in front of me, crossed the road and ran allong the opposite side for about 50 yards and dashed into the woods. After my mind grabbed ahold of what just happened I had an adrenaline rush so bad I could hardly ride for 20 minutes. All I could think was I was glad I was not on the menu at the time and I breaked in time not to hit him because I would of pissed him off and he might have stopped for a snack. When we stopped my friend in front of me said he missed the whole thing and didn't see the bear at all. The other guy behind me said he thought the bear was going after me and wondered what he was going to say to my family. That sucker was way bigger than me and my 90 VR .
  9. Yes you can have one horn work and not the other. If you have 12V at the horn and a bad ground it will not work. If you notice on the horn one lead is grounded to the frame check that for resistance if the 12V is present. I replaced my horns because they sounded like an early 60's VW brand new. People just ignored it. Now they sound like a Lincoln Continental is about to crash through your door. You should see how they wake up the occasional careless driver. I feel much safer now. If you dont have 12V to the horn you can run the relay off the other horn lead and wire the new one off that.
  10. You should check the hot side of the horn wire for 12V when you push the horn switch. If that is good, check the horn ground. You should use a relay for the new horn so you dont overload the switch circuit. There are instructions with most horns and they may come with the relay. also there are instruction on this site if you look.
  11. Thanks guys. The M8's I had would not thread in, they were the right pitch. The holes looked like they weren't threaded but M7 bolts would thread in. I just ran a tap into them and picked up some washers and with some hard cranking and a couple of wacks with a rubber mallet it popped right off. Now I have to save some bucks so I can fix it. Bye the way all three bolts for the clutch were loos and no sign of locktite on them and of course the standard crack was there.
  12. I have a puller but none of the bolts will fit the flywheel. I have purchased some M7 with 1.0 threads and they fit the holes but there are no places I can get them in high strength or long enough to fit the puller. Yamaha wants over $200. for thier puller. Any ideas out there?
  13. Thanks for the offer Squidley. I am in Gleenlock Farms not far from you. If when I have time to pull the starter clutch I reach a breaking point I may give you a call. If for no other reason maybe just to meet a fellow Venture rider. And to Snaggletooth Thanks, I will check out the cable mod.
  14. Well I just found this site today while cussing the bike. To make a long story short my bike ( 90 Venture Royal ) has never been a good starter so I started looking for solutions and found this forum and signed up. So I stripped the starter out and cleaned it up tested it, seems fine but the starter clutch is shot. Looks like as soon as I have time to pull the thing out I will be getting the mod. Thanks for all the great info.
