I am told it takes 200 rounds for a good break in. I just don't know if it's the shooter or the gun that's getting broken in. Mike

Options for brake/ tail light addition
MikeWa replied to Dale124's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have aded a few led conversions. The images show the tail lights and the 4-way flasher. The turn signals and brake lights are similar. Mike -
Sorry. I am just not a fan of reintroducing wolves or other dangerous animals into our environment. Mike

Vmax Swap? yea or nea.
MikeWa replied to rutman's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I have not added a Power Max yet and I am very happy with the mod. That said I will add one at some point because I like the feel of winding it up. And because I like to whip up on my buddy's Harley. Mike -
Vmax Swap? yea or nea.
MikeWa replied to rutman's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
When getting on it with the v-max rear end and the stock ignition module hitting the rev limiter. My RSV winds out at; 1st gear goes to 30 mph. 2nd to 60 mph. 3rd to 90 mph. I have yet to wind 4th to the end but my guess is 120 mph. 5th ??? Thing is when I get over about 110 I get chicken. Fuel economy will change little to none. The bike will have a lot more pep. The only thing will be getting used to the sound and feel of a little more (10%) rpm. For me it is the best mod I ever made. The bike handles so much better at low speed and in traffic. It is also much peppier passing at freeway speeds. But in the end bikes are personal. Each rider has different expectations. Mike -
Maybe. But I am not going that route. I gave them two chances hands on and a third phone call. Now I don't want it anymore. Don't care. Don't expect any kind of reparation. It is in the box awaiting shipment. No replacement required. Later I will look for some other brand to get the rpm boost I want. Mike

Yes. That is why I purchased the Dyna. The module has been in and out of my bike on four separate occasions now. Yes I checked the dip switches. I also checked to see if the LEDs were lighting up. At this juncture I think I just got a bad copy. After I sent it in the second time along with a video showing the poor running I think Dynatek should have just swapped it out. But they didn't. Still I tried it again and when it didn't work again I called Dynatek back. That is when they were unable or unwilling to tell me what kind of tests they had run on it. That is also when I felt like I was being completely blown off. I finally had the Yamaha dealer try it. They were very clear to me about the module being defective. It caused the bike to run so poorly they warned that using it could damage the engine. It created multiple random misfires at low and high speeds, poor idle and no top end. These were not marginal symptoms. There is little doubt in my mind this unit is defective. There is doubt about how thoroughly Dynatek tested it when I sent it back two times. And while the majority of these units may be good there is also little doubt some have been or gone bad. So here is the heads up. If you get a Dynatek module and your bike starts running bad right away or later it could be a bad module. Even though Dynatek says it is not. Mike

Another Clutch (pull) upgrade question
MikeWa replied to ragtop69gs's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I don't believe there is a significant increase in lever pressure with either the Barnett spring conversion or with Skydocs upgrade. I did the Barnett on mine and did not notice any difference. I am thinking about ordering some heavier springs, just because, and see how that feels. Mike -
Can't answer your question but welcome to the forum. Mike

Of course that is a great thought but I didn't have a spare Venture lying around. And I didn't want to take somebody else's bike apart. Since my bike runs great with the stock module. And given an outside opinion (dealer) besides mine . The module is going back. I will however mark it defective. Mike

Good to hear things worked out for you. Mike

You are right Dan. But I just don't care anymore. I am writing the $300 dollars for the Dyna off and I will eat the cost to the dealer. I suspected Dyna was just blowing me off so I wanted a second opinion on the poor running. It was my choice to waste the dealers time on this thing. My plan is to send it back to the president of Dynatek and he can do what he will with it. And yes I am posting a heads up on the various forums I am a member of. Mike

I also posted this on the other forum. So if you have seen it twice that is probably why. Some time ago I purchased a Dyna 3000 D3K7-5 for my Venture. The plan was to get an increase in the rev limit. Well the bike ran like crap with the Dyna installed. And wouldn't go over 6200 RPM. So I packaged it up and sent it into Dyna with an explanation of the problems I encountered. They sent it back reporting it tested fine. So I tried it again and encountered the same problems. I called Dynatek service and explained my issues. This time I returned the module with a video showing the install and the poor running bike. Again they returned it saying it tested fine and I must have a bad coil or something. Since the bike ran fine with the stock module I shelved the Dyna. Of course my feeling was I had just been blown off by Dynatek. This week I took my Venture in to the dealer for tires and service. I also dusted off the Dyna 3000 module and asked the dealer to install it and let me know what they thought. It wasn't long before I got a call . The bike runs like crap and won't go over 6300 rpm with the Dyna module. They checked my coils, plugs, wires etc and after reinstalling the stock ignition the bike runs fine. I will be returning the module to Dynatek. At this late stage I don't expect a refund or anything. But I do want them to know this module was crap. And if that is the best testing their service department can do they might as well close it down and send everybody home. Mike

Oh man. That was a nice 59 Chev. I am not sure what they were trying to prove. I just don't see very many 59 Bel-Air econo box crashes. But that is just me. Perhaps there is an epidemic of old 50s vs new car crashes going around and I am just unaware. Mike

Ok I plugged the bike into the battery maintainer a few days ago and the maintainer never went to green. That is unusual because my tender normally goes green in less than an hour. So I began looking for the drain on the battery. First thing I found was my installed trunk light (led) was turned on. So I turned it off and the next morning the tender was still yellow. Hmmm. Then I remembered these bikes sometimes have a little problem with the cd changer drawing some voltage. So I unplugged the CD changer and within 2 hours the maintainer was green. I plugged the CD changer back in and reset the cartridge and all has been ok since. So this is just a reminder that the CD changer can occasionally cause a parasitic drain on the battery. Mike

Many of us have been momentarily distracted while driving. And have been fortunate nothing serious happened. This time the result was tragic. My heart goes out to all of those involved. Mike
