Thanks Preferred 2010 or newer, under 25000 miles. The price depends on the bike. Of course less is better. A heavily discounted new hold over could also fill the bill nicely. Mike

I just got the official word. My insurance company has totaled my Venture following an accident last month. This means I am now shopping for a replacement Venture or reasonable alternative. Mike

non motorcycle fuel injection tech question ?????
MikeWa replied to Peder_y2k's topic in General Tech Talk
Pete Possible but rare. It is common for a disconnected or bad temp sensor to keep the engine from starting. Same goes for a crank position sensor. That is a fairly simple FI system but failure of a signal from almost any primary sensor will drive the system full rich. The engine will flood and not start. Also checking fuel pressure is a must but you have already done that. Mike -

Trouble starting my RSV 07
MikeWa replied to retiredgolfer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
It might be time for a jumper wire. Unplug the clutch switch, side stand switch, kill switch etc. one at a time and jumper the wires. Hopefully this will identify the problem. If not then it might be time to check the bikes wiring to the switches and relay. A little tougher but doable. Mike -
Thanks for the post. Hope Rick gets better soon. Mike

Very sorry for your loss. Mike

Lots of questions. Are the tires fully seated? What is the tire width? Stock rim or rim width? What was the air pressure? Which model Kumho? How were the tires balanced? How are the wheel bearings? This amount of tire wear is so unusual it makes me think some basic item was somehow missed. Especially if no symptoms were noticed while riding the bike. Then of course there is always the very remote chance this one tire had a defective rubber compound. Mike

Dion, I know those back problems can drag on and on. Yes, it is worth the few bucks for a second opinion. I hope you can get your issues resolved. Mike

Weirdest problem I've seen with a venture
MikeWa replied to ediddy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Wow very interesting symptoms. Let us know what you find. Mike -
It finally happened. I was wrong and that's for the second time in my life. After consulting with an outside doctor. (My wifes family doctor). I am confident the VA is providing proper treatment for my clavicle injury. Even though my injury has separation and tenting and shards I now believe their stand back approach is probably best. After todays consultation I know what questions to ask and how best to assist my recovery. I am glad I got the second opinion. It feels like a big relief. Mike

Hey EasyRider nice to hear from ya. It is hard to determine if a complaint about the VA medical is warranted or not. I have often said the VA is bipolar. There have been times I have had to wait months for a basic diagnostic test. There have been times they were right there for me. The plane truth is they are overwhelmed, short staffed, and short on equipment. But those are excuses not treatment. The ER in Seattle gave me a very thorough look over. They used x-rays, cat-scan, and ultrasound. I am extremely grateful for that. There isn't much that can be done for bumps and bruises. You just have to grit your teeth and rider-up. Since I actually have a pretty high tolerance for pain that is ok by me. The x-rays clearly show messy fractures of the clavicle. One two or three inch section of bone is completely separated, free floating and moved out of position. One end is considerably below what is left of the main structure. The other end is way above the other side of the main structure. Bone shards are hanging down in various places. I have a large bump where the bone fragment is on top of the main clavicle and my whole shoulder is dropped down over an inch and a half. Some years ago the VA came under fire for prescribing to much pain medication. So now they almost won't give you any. In my case there is clearly a need for it and a one day supply is not enough. Also I don't like the idea of having to beg for medication that is clearly needed. I wouldn't treat my dog that way and I don't expect to be treated that way either. Sympathy while nice does not help. So it comes down to trust. I may be getting absolutely the best advise and treatment in the world. Or I might be being put off. I have had it both ways in the past. After looking at the x-rays I was very surprised that the bone doesn't need to be reset. That there is no course of treatment, everything will take care of itself. I did finally get a ten day supply of pain medication. Enough to take me up to my next doctors appointment. So. What to do? We have an old family doctor my wife sees. I will take my copy of the x-rays in for a consult with him. If he concurs with the VA's course of no treatment than all I can do is be sorry I mistrusted them. If he disagrees and thinks surgery or some form of intervention is required then things should get interesting. I like my led tail lights but they only work for cars behind you. The cruise switch must be on. 4th or 5th gear over 35 mph. Press the set button and wait for engagement. Or push the set button and immediately push the reset button. The cruise will engage instantly. Enjoy your Venture. Mike

China radiator cover
MikeWa replied to bill4you502's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Hey Pete Doing pretty good I guess. The VA has decided they don't need to do anything with the broken bones. Even though one piece is turned sideways and jammed beneath the other. No setting no surgery or no anything. I am not so sure that isn't an economical decision as much as a medical one. But being the clavicle they may be right. It would help a lot if they weren't so tight on the pain medication. All that said I am very pleased to be up and about. And that something even more serious didn't happen. All I can say is always always wear a helmet. Mike -
China radiator cover
MikeWa replied to bill4you502's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have had that same style cover on my bike for several years. It seems to me like it was cut out of stainless steel in the USA. It also cost me about $100. So it looks like a very good price if the steel is quality. After mounting on the bike I noticed the upper edges tended to vibrate against the radiator. This was easily fixed by gluing a little rubber pad under both upper corners. Various size stick on pads are available at the hardware store in the furniture hardware section. Mike -
Point taken. You would have to make adjustments for the reversed set up. Mike

I don't have a replacement part but it looks to me like something could be fashioned out of a fishing flasher. Mike -
+1 on the harness from Larry. About relays. You are going to want a 4 terminal relay. Sometimes a five terminal is ok because one terminal will be left unused. Each relay can be considered as two devices. A control device and a power device. The power device portion is easy. It's two terminals are usually slightly larger. One terminal is connected to the battery. Use a fuse in this wire. The other terminal is connected to the horn or whatever you want to power up. It is sometimes pictured with a switch between two terminals in the schematic on the back of the relay. Just remember whatever you provide power to with the relay will still need a ground wire. The control circuit also uses two terminals. They are often the smaller terminals. What the control circuit does is to internally flip the switch of the power circuit. Thereby switching your device on and off. One terminal of the control circuit is connected to ground. The other terminal is connected to a switched power source such as a horn switch or a light switch. This circuit is often shown as a square or coil between two terminals in the diagram on the back of the relay. Some relays also show a diode in the control circuit making it polarity sensitive Activating the horn switch will then activate the relay control ckt which will activate the relay power or load circuit and your device will turn on. On the Yamaha relay pictured the control terminals have the square box. The power terminals would be terminals 30 and 87 or 87a. Mike

CB receives fine, but transmits only short distance
MikeWa replied to NewfoundlandVenture's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Squelch only affects the receiver. It works like the spring on a door. It controls how strong of a signal it takes to open the receiver door. But once open everything gets in. Mike
