1. Don't do it! It hurts.
2. Add on part. The one you have is Show Chrome, straight side rails. The Yamaha accessory has curved side rails. I no longer see a listing for the Yamaha part though. Do a search with the part number above and it will come up. Mike
3. How have you been Brian ? Haven't heard from you for a long time. Mike
4. Most of the time you won't notice. But you will on mountain passes over 7000 ft. Don't worry about it just go for it. All naturally aspirated engines loose about 3% of their power per 1000 feet of altitude. Sorry guys, that's just physics. Ok a few Venture riders are exempted from the laws of physics. But for the rest of us these laws apply. Noticing the loss depends on how close to the upper horse power limit you were riding. In other words the further you had the throttle cranked the more noticeable it is. It is most evident when passing and on grades. That said many Venture riders never notice the change in power at all. How you can tell if you are being affected. 1. The cruise will kick out on small grades. 2. The engine will feel like it is lugging in 5th even though you are at speed. Especially on a grade. 3. Passing or accelerating is sluggish, requires more throttle. Premium fuel it harder to burn than regular. So don't switch. Mike
5. In that case I retract my previous post. Mike
6. Paint is spoken for. Mike
7. That is a good question Pete. The can does not say. Does not identify the paint as lacquer or enamel. There are no clean-up instructions. It does say "contents partially unknown". I also found where it says "do not sand between coats". Therefore I have concluded it is a secret formula known only to Color-Rite and no one else. The black paint calls for UCA150 clear coat but for all I know that is a Color-Rite number. Oh found it. It is Urethane. Mike
8. Thanks Pete That is very close to what I ended up doing. I did not have the wax remover. So I sanded and painted. After fifteen minutes I applied a second coat and finally after another fifteen minutes I applied a third coat. Just as I was preparing for the clear coat I noticed a scratch right in the middle of my piece. Bummer. So I waited until this morning and started over. I sanded until the scratch was gone. Did a very fine finish sanding and applied the first coat of paint. It turned dull. Bummer. So I set the paint cans out in the sunlight for a little warm up. I applied a second coat and it dried shinny. After fifteen minutes I applied the third and last coat. All went well. Finally after about twenty minutes I applied the clear coat. Whew all done. Mike PS As a side note I have to say the Color-Rite spray paint was the best rattle can paint I have ever used. It sanded easily. Dried right on time (very quickly). It also looks good.
9. Hahaha. Dirty chrome. Who would have thought? Mike
10. Wrong part "it says "Headlight VSR. V-Star". V-Star and Royal Star are different. Mike
11. Dale Without a part number it is impossible to tell if you have the correct visor. The one I installed on my Venture seemed a little large and had to be worked in. But you are saying way to big. So it sounds like a wrong part. Mike
12. Pete I am using the Color-Rite rattle cans. Matching paint and clear coat. Mike
13. Use a wiring diagram to find out what all runs off that fuse. I can't think of anything that would only activate in gear. Therefore I think when you put it in gear the engine shifts position and pinches a wire someplace shorting out the circuit. I would either be tracing wires from the fuse or looking for a pinched harness. Was any work done on the bike recently? Might be a starting point. Good Luck Mike
14. When it comes back it will be like a new toy. No wait. It will be a new toy. Best of luck on the conversion. Enjoy the bike and ride safe. Mike
15. I am hoping for some advise from someone more familiar with painting than I am. I am painting the spoiler for my new to me bike. 1. Do I sand between coats? 2. Do I sand before the clear coat? 3. Do I sand after the clear coat and then polish? Thanks Mike
16. Since my 08 was totaled I have some unused Color-Rite paint available. Yamaha called it Charcoal Silver. It's the dark blueish gray Color-Rite # 5019. It was for a 2008 Venture S. I believe it is the same gray as on the 2013. I have two touch up pens and one 11oz aerosol spray can. All unused. Free to a good home. You just pay shipping. These things were not cheap from Color-Rite. I think the aerosol was around $35.00 and the pens were about $15.00 each. So if you want them PM me. First come and all that. Mike
17. At this point I doubt you have a pick-up coil issue. They can go intermittent but if that is the case it will usually test good when it is working and bad when it is not. Mike
18. +1 on the plugged drain in the bottom of the fridge. Mike
19. Holy cow. it sounds like an epidemic. Seaking just went through something similar. I hope your situation is more easily resolved. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=87594 Mike

Holy Crap

Dang Karl. Hope everything turns out ok. Mike
21. Congrats. If you got it working there is no sense pursuing false leads. Mike
22. When looking for these connectors I think they are under the center cover located between and connecting the left and right side covers. In the center of the bike. To access it remove the seat, left and right side covers, and center cover. Slide the center cover out to the right. Sorry I just do not recall for sure but I think that is where they are located Mike
23. Enjoy the trip. Mike
24. I feel your pain. The Yamaha service manual is definately among the worst. Only slightly better than nothing. Mike
25. Should be near here. #7 is pick-up coil. Mike
