Anyone have a golf club holder for their Venture?
MikeWa replied to GG54172's topic in Watering Hole
Get one that goes in the trailer hitch. Then put lights on your golf bag and plug it into the trailer plug. Mike- 25 replies

For me it depends on how long it has been raining. If it is a new rain the roads can become very slick with whatever tire I am using. But if it has been raining enough to flush the oil away my Bridgestones or Dunlops are just fine. Mike

Steve M61A1Mech does a good job making the adapters. But I went the other way and wired my trailer to match the bike. Mike -
Torque it. it won't come loose. Also the application of any liquid including loc-tight will distort the torque readings. Mike

Keep going Gary. You are doing fine just don't stop now. Best wishes in the healing process. Mike

Buddy We also like having the CD changer on board. Bump skips are not bad on good roads. When installing your changer make sure you use dielectric grease on the terminals. I had my unit mounted in the trunk on my last bike and it worked very well. If you mount it with minimal air space between the changer and the back you can still have room for a pair of full face helmets. Run your cable from the trunk foreword to the fairing so any extra cable can be coiled under the fairing out of sight and out of harms way. On my current bike I am planning on mounting it in the saddlebag with Velcro. Mostly because the cable already runs there and I am to lazy to rip it out, get a longer cable and pull the fairing, gas tank, and seats to put in a new one. Best of Luck Mike

Here is the menu from the Generals BBQ. They also have a very good BBQ pork lunch sandwich for 4.95. Mike -

Right now I am thinking the "General's BBQ" on East Valley Hwy near 180th St. I will go over today and check their menu just to make sure there is some variety. I am sure they will give us their conference room for the day. Are week ends or week days best? Mike -

Rear tire , Final Drive and Drive Shaft
MikeWa replied to dave_wells's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Ok my final post on this thread. MiCarl is correct. I decided to go ahead and change my stock pumpkin for the one I have with the v-max gear set in it. While doing so I inspected the drive shaft, coupler, and seal etc. It looks like MiCarl and several others were right all along. The pumpkin side of the drive shaft gets oil from the differential. My apologies to anyone I might have led astray. Boy am I glad the guys on this site keep me from totally screwing things up. Mike -
Prayers for a speedy recovery sent. Mike

Rear tire , Final Drive and Drive Shaft
MikeWa replied to dave_wells's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Looking at the parts fiche I believe Seaking is right. The pinion seal is located behind the coupler. The shaft is lubricated by greasing. Some oil could penetrate into the area if the splines on the inside of the coupler were not sealed (touch of silicone) when it was installed on the pinion. Otherwise there is separation. Mike -

Rear tire , Final Drive and Drive Shaft
MikeWa replied to dave_wells's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The Yamaha service manual is so crappy. Everything I read tells me the shaft is greased at both ends. The seal on the shaft is for protection of the teeth and that the open part of the seal is facing the center of the shaft. I get this from reading both the Yamaha service manual and Clymer's. I believe the holes that are present are to relieve pressure not lubricate. Generally for oil lubrication there will be a return hole at 6 o'clock on the outer edge. But again the manuals are so crappy I could be wrong. The next time I have a shaft out I will look much more closely. Mike -

Since I have an 08 differential in a box in my shed I decided to go out and have a look. After much scrounging around I finally found it. A careful inspect does indeed reveal the holes and the unit looks as though either the gears were lubricated by the differential fluid or the pinion seal has been leaking. Mike -

According to the service manual the gears at both ends of the drive shaft are lubricated by greasing. Mike -
