  1. I signed up for the buy but unfortunately was clueless how to switch thru the pages. Learned that lesson. Wasn't sure if someone might have an extra one they wanted to sell or know where I could find one. Appreciate the help. Bob
  2. Thanks for the help guys. I left my key on and ran my battery to zero. I tried to charge my battery using my van with the van called off. I started to see some new riding lights that I put on the front fender flicker in unison and then shut off. I disconnected the battery. Never smelled anything burning. I have wired my house and quite a few projects, but I never quite "get it". I can follow instructions and diagrams, but I don't get ohms, volts, amps etc. Is the fuse retro project very straight forward? Again, thanks for your involvment.
  3. OK, Tried to recharge my motorcycle battery with my car. By the time I learned what a big no no this is I caused some damage. I went and got my battery charged and put it back in. My turn signals do not work front or back. My turn signals work as riding lights in the front. Do I have fuse problems. Do I have to rewire something. Not really sure where the fuses are located. I do have all the fairings off at this point. Thanks for the help. Bob
  4. OK, I went and got my battery charged and put it back in. My turn signals do not work front or back. My turn signals work as riding lights in the front. My lights in my front fender, that are hooked into my front turn signal riding lights do not work. This is very confusing to me. Do I have fuse problems. Do I have to rewire something. Really don't understand how my lights on my front fender are toast but the front signal lights that they are hooked into work as riding lights. Thanks for the help. Bob
  5. The battery is brand new though it is out of juice. If I jump it with my car do you have any idea how long it would take to charge it?
  6. In the process of putting on new fairings and adding some lights. I had old running lights on a switch and something else on a switch, but never could figure out what was on the second switch. They were hooked to the positive with a separate wire. I pulled the wires out. I left the key on and killed the battery. I added the rear lights and tied into the rear light. I added lights on my front fender and tied into my front turn signals. I then took some jumper cables and jumped my bike. Lights on the back look good. Lights on the front looked good and then began to flicker in unison. Connection seems solid. Now the real problem. I pull the jumper cable and the bike stops immediately. Jumps automatically and stops automatically What have I done? Really appreciate your help
  7. Thanks for the great ideas. This web site saves my can. Bob
  8. I'm a newbie to vehicular wiring so I can use a little help. Bought some new fairings and extras. My front wheel cover has a riding light with two wires running on the underside. Question 1) How should I run electricity to this light? I have a rear riding lights. (The big chrome things with about a half dozen small riding lights) They have 2 wires coming out of them. I have taken off all the fairings so I can see the wiring clip assembly that goes to the back light. It is actually disconnected right now. Question 2) How should I run electricity to the riding lights? Question 3) Amp load? (I'm really out of my league here) I do not run a radio. Wouldn't mind having a cigarette lights for running a GPS. With the addition of the extra lights do I have to worry if I have enough amps. (I do not have driving lights though I am considering them) Thank you very much for taking the time to reply and help me. Bob
  9. Patrick, I think having all your fairings off your bike and loving it says a lot about you and it is good. My wife is embarrassed for me and her when I go riding because I wear all the protective gear I can find. I'm much more interested than going riding than how I am percieved. Not saying it is right or wrong, but you are doing it your way and I think that is great!
  10. Tom, I really like your creativity. You made the side look it has a traditional gas tank. Don't know why, but the current gas tank look drives me crazy. Again, great job. Really appreciate all the ideas. Bob
  11. I tell you what Randya. In my opinion, you dramatically improved the looks of this bike. I really struggled with the look and I did not like the way the engine was covered up. Couldn't figure out a way to show the engine without showing the wires. I guess you solved that. Well done.
  12. I think that is a great idea for the removal of the lower fairings. It removes a lot of the vulnerable parts of the bike.
  13. I'm going out on a limb here. I've seen a couple guys talk about changing the body style of their Gen 1 and get fried so I am going to set this up a little bit. I am in the process of painting all of my fairings. Anyone who has taken off all the fairings knows that 25 year old ABS is "band-aided" together. I am not a mechanical genious, but I think that the ABS fairings are one of the weak links to these machines lasting a lot more years. You can ABS patch and glue as much as you want, but you are still patching 25 year old ABS. I would love to see a thread where some people explore alternative fairing systems for the Gen 1's. For some of you entrepreneurs, I think there could be a little business for a front fairing and a heat sheild for the sides covering up the wire with some leather bags for example. With that, I'll jump off. Be gentle.
  14. Well I signed up for the buy quite a few weeks ago and kept checking the thread. Didn't realize that it would go to multiple pages so never saw an update. Today I just realized that it went to page 6 and that I missed the date, Saturday for the order. 1) If my unit has been sold to someone else, I completely understand. I apologize for whatever problem I caused. 2) If you are waiting on me, I am confused as to where I go to pay by Paypal. Dan, thank you very much for dealing with this group buy. It looks like a full time job. Bob
  15. I am having similar issues. When I get over 3500 RPM's gas mileage falls off drastically. Stay at or below I will run low 40's. Going 4000 rpms and I will get low 30's. I'm no expert, but my theory is that Gen 1's were geared for 55 mph lifestyle. They are awesome performing and efficiency up to 65 mph. One guys opinion
  16. I bought an 83 in April. It is a good value but the fairings are a weak link. The material is ABS and very fragile after 26 years. Bob
  17. So the 2nd gen gears fit into the 1st generations. What might a guy expect to pay for a 2nd gen transmission if you don't mind me asking
  18. Glad you guys got into the RPM's At 65 MPH my RPMS's are at 3600. At 75 MPH my RPM's are at 4500. I have just had my carbs tuned. Diamphrams and needles in good shape. At 60-65 I'm getting low 40's. I had heard that RPMS have a lot to do with gas mileage. Based on people I have surveyed with other bikes they are cruising on the highway in the low to mid 2000's. Since I have an 83 with a potential 2nd gear problem, maybe a swap does make sense. I do like to get out and cruise. I am quite easy on the engine. (just my style I guess)
  19. Question for the 1st Gen Gear experts. Just took a trip to Sturgis and was going about 75 for fthe first 140 miles. Surprising I ran out of gas at 140 miles. That is under 30 mpg. When I went 60-65 I got 41-42. Couple comments and questions on this. My bike is a 1983. I think the speed limit was 55 in that day so I am also thinking that the gearing was probably appropriate. It really doesn't seem to work in the 75 mph range though. If I am getting into the gears, is it possible to replace the 5th gear with a larger gear that would be more suitable for 75mph. I am assuming that I can't add a sixth gear. Appreciate your insight. Bob
  20. Hey guys, I get the not wanting to look through windshields. I'm 6'1" and probably have the standard windsheild. Out of town so can't measure. Imagine the top of sheild probably comes to my lips if I were to put a level on it. My head is getting bounced around like crazy, not to mention the noise with my modular helmet. I duck my head down for a break from it all. I like the quite. This just doesn't seem right. I don't want to look through glass either, but is there something else I can do? Somebody was talking about these vents helping with drafts. I don't understand all that stuff, but I like the comfort behind the sheild even if it is hotter. Don't want to look through the sheild even though about every motorcycle I see in Europe (and there are a lot over here) are all behind massive wind screens. Thanks for feedback. Bob

    Yellow- Thats right Yellow

I repainted my 83 yellow. You either love it or hate. Obviously it works for me. Don't want to be invisible
