Thanks for the heads up! Haven't seen any emails but like others, I don't trust them...

Paypal just sent lewis!! Yes, for next year's rally we will definitely take some!! The rally won't be until next August so we will talk next spring/summer about this. I'm sure we will be able to raise funds for "The Kids!"

A better way to bleed the brakes is to install a device called a Speed Bleeder instead of the regular bleeder for each caliper, and use a vacuum pump to bleed the brakes. Using both a vacuum pump and speed bleeders makes it a VERY efficient one man job, and you do not have to press the brake pedal at all, just make sure the master cylinder does not go dry; keep adding brake fluid during the process. Yes, follow the procedure GAJ mentioned by starting with the left front at the anti dive. With the speed bleeders the size you need is 8mm x 1.25 (thread pitch). For the front, you will go through a LOT of brake fluid, it is a looong way from the rear master all the way up to the front!! What GAF says about the brake lines is very true, chances are they were never replaced so you are dealing with 34 year old rubber!! And yes, it sounds like the dealer you went to does not know what they are doing!! How were the brakes BEFORE they worked on them???

I betcha the ones out there are going to go for BIG bucks now...

There is NO horn relay on any Venture 1st gen or 2nd. However, the stock horn wires work PERFECT to trigger the relay. Use at least a 30A relay, 12 or 14 gauge wire, and an inline fuse from the battery directly to the relay... PS instead, buy WOLO "Bad Boy" air horns or Steibel ones, same horn, they are REALLY loud!! -
Gee, and you didn't get detained at the border either!! Glad you guys made it out!! I'm going to try to get over to Michigan some time before the snow flies...

Yup!! What Carl said! As long as you have a really low profile drain pan, it should be no issue changing oil on the kickstand, but, put a 2 x 4 under the kickstand so that the bike sets almost level so the oil drains completely. With the bike tilted the corner or side of the pan is lower than the drain plug and there will be a small quantity of oil that can't drain. My personal preference when changing oil, the bike needs to set at least 8 hours before draining so ALL the oil is on the pan and not still in the upper parts of the motor. I like to let it drain for several hours so that all the gooey stuff on the bottom of the pan has a chance to ooze out. Not that there is anything wrong with just draining until it sort of stops dripping, I just like to get as much stuff out as I can... -

Then that is a pretty good price! Due to ecological factors (and age) I had my cooling system flushed this spring by our local trusted dealer and that was around $125 or so... -

Well, there IS a fair amount of labor involved in getting the rear tire off the bike to put the new tire on so count on around 200 or so just to change the tires themselves. Now, the valve adjustment is a big labor eater in time and parts as they will, or they SHOULD replace both the valve cover gaskets and the rubber thingies on the valve cover screws so they don't leak oil! Those parts alone are expensive so it usually runs around $800 parts and labor for that. Not sure what else is called for with the 16K service but I'm thinking an oil change is part of it so that too will bring the bill up. So, yes, probably that is about a normal cost for a dealer to do the work. Does this price ALSO include the cost of the tires?? If so then you are probably getting a decent price. The $1200 price is why many of us would rather do the work ourselves, sorry, but motorcycle mechanics aren't gods with super skills above and beyond what any of us with mechanical skills are capable of doing, they just have more practice doing it. As far as the practical specific knowledge of the Yamaha 1300 engine, we have that information here on the site! The shop mechanics have to work on a whole lot of different engines, so they generally have to refer to the shop manuals themselves just like we do... Also, there are good dealers, not so good dealers, and downright dishonest dealers out there!! Hope yours is one of the GOOD ones out there, they are sometimes far and few between! -
It was great having you DJ! Yup, know what you mean about the unpacking thing, everything is in the garage in bins waiting to be unpacked and put away until next year! Cool story about our Church picnic today, went over and packed up the car with all the stuff, then went to Church in the park. We had leftover ice cream from Saturday night so it was decided to get rid of it at Church, so after the service I quick ran over and picked it up from the refrigerator at Earl's while they started dishing out lunch. Well, when I got back and went to get my food, they ran out of paper plates and plastic silverware! I had reparked my car right next to the food tables, so luckily I had our plates and plastic silverware on the spot!!! God works in mysterious ways!!

Awww, CRAP, forgot to transfer the MP3's from my SD cards to your Iphone! Sooo, you're gonna have to come down some afternoon so we can do that! You Canadians left behind a lot of Canadian's in the fridge bottom door, and a couple of Labatt's too! Glad to have you down, hope to see you again next summer!!

yup! It's the cable that looks like a headphone cable, the others have multipin connectors! Just unplug, install a stereo headphone Y adapter, and get on with life! -
OK to check the pressure sensor it is not really that hard! You just put a voltmeter across the output terminals, and with the ignition on you should see about 2.5 volts. If you suck on the vacuum line (take a nice clean new hose and put it on the sensor) and then blow onto it. The voltage should be at near zero one way and close to 5 volts the other way...

Relocate your TCI to the top of your airbox. While it's getting relocated, unplug it, clean the connections, remove the top cover and bake in oven at 250 - 275 degrees for a few hours, you probably have some trapped moisture in it... -
Me too!!
