  1. Mine still has the YICS on it, but I treated the canister seam to insure it was not leaking with a bead of waterproof sealer, forgot the brand but it was for all surfaces and was waterproof and gas proof. The seam is where it usually develops leaks. I then replaced all the hoses with new ones and clamps. On my new VMaxified engine it is based on a 1300 so no more YICS for me... The YICS system is something that on paper and theory works, but in real life may or may not! Here's some reading for you... http://xjbikes.wikidot.com/yics http://prototype900turbo.blogspot.com/2011/02/yamaha-yics-good-for-fuel-economy.html Now, for other models with YICS like the 650, 1100, etc. you need to use a special tool when sync'ing the carbs, but with the 1200 Venture it is not necessary. Hope Randy's info helps! I'm sure it will be debated until the end of time whether or not you actually DO get the increase in MPG over it not being there...
  2. That'll do it!! Betcha that's what chewed up your clutch plates...
  3. I'll be at a Patriot Guard Riders picnic...
  4. You'll be sleeping in until 8 or 9 before you know it!! Enjoy, it's a great life!
  5. So sorry to hear this, I liked lonestarmedic! Donated to "Go Fund Me"
  6. Don't remember meeting him in person but he is on my "friends" list and yes, he was a good man! So saddened to hear of his passing...
  7. Well, looks like you already have your answer!! Yes, 2nd gen fuel pumps are a known weak point, and no, those cheap Chinese fuel pumps are a waste of money, you get what you pay for per John Arbuckle! several have gone with the Mr. gasket, several have just installed new points on the stock fuel pump (the real culprit). Actually, I am more interested in Du-rron's suggestion mostly for the check valve and anti syphon feature as I never shut off my fuel switch. Mr. Du-rron, how much McGuiver'ing was involved??
  8. Jim is in the Orange tee on the right side...
  9. Hmmm, TPS would be a good "next thing to check" Rod...
  10. Boooooooo!! Sick Denis, sick! Back to your corner...

  12. That would be our committee member Jayceesfolly, Jim Crane, a good friend!! Yes he had his bike painted a few years ago, I think it's a Mopar color from the late 60's/early 70's. He had it pinstriped at Freebird's Maintenance Day as little after having it painted. He has won a couple of trophies with it! Marcarl, I guess we will have to take more pictures next year when you actually show up...
  13. Scam, gee Jack, ta think?!!?
  14. WOW!! Becky and I sure stand out with our lime green tees... GREAT picture!!
  15. LMAO but very ingenious!
  16. The chrome air filter covers were discontinued a few years ago. There are still some to be found but they are VERY expensive! You may want to consider having your plastic chromed instead, there are companies that do this. The metal aftermarket ones weren't chromed very well and they pit and rust...
  17. Yup!! Stupid is as stupid does...
  18. Ahhh, yes! Much bigger better pictures than on facebook!
  19. Now days you can't even open your mouth without being politically incorrect...
  20. You will also notice after a few months the front end will soften up just a tad as the new springs "age" a little, but not a big change...
  21. I'm soooo old when I studied electronics in High School IC's weren't around, and we learned vacuum tubes! Then we were told about this new device called a transistor and explained that they worked the same way as a tube, but they would never replace them...
  22. ...liberally applied to the mouth!!!
  23. No, IC is Integrated Chip. What that means is an entire electronic circuit, transistors, resistors, capacitors, etc that make up a particular electronic circuit for some function or another is Integrated into one "Chip." IC's range from simple 3 legged voltage regulators or 8 legged basic operational amplifiers (op amps) to extremely complex chips with over a hundred legs such as computer process chips, etc...
  24. If you check Ebay there is a manufacturer that makes a complete kit, ready made up with the plug ends that is plug and play. Just reuse the coil caps and rubber o rings from the old set. From what i remember it runs around $40.00 or so... Here's a link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-Venture-XVZ12-Spark-Plug-Wires-Yellow-XVZ1200-/391543428896?hash=item5b29ce9720:m:mSj8rx_J5_fMPs-9af4ZTnA&vxp=mtr Or, if you like black plug wires, same people: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-Venture-XVZ12-Spark-Plug-Wires-Cables-XVZ1200-/391546150191?hash=item5b29f81d2f:m:mSj8rx_J5_fMPs-9af4ZTnA&vxp=mtr
  25. Dave, I was sort of HOPING you would notice this thread and offer to help, I know you know what you are doing!! GAJ, I use the mity vac too, can't remember if I used the black rubber adapter, or if I used a tight fitting clear hose adapted to fit the line... Prarriehammer, I forgot all about that TB! When I did my 1st gen I had already converted to the MK2 system with the bleeder up by the neck when I switched to SS lines. Bought the complete MK2 kit from buckeye and switched to MK2 forks and front and rear calipers. That was my first modification I did with my '84 as I felt the whole brake system was anemic to say the least!! Good pedal/handgrip but lacking in stopping power...
