clutch issues at high elevations
bongobobny replied to meach's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Do NOT go by the color of the fluid inside the MC, what matters is on the other side of the MC!! It's not like a pump system where the fluid gets flushed back to the reservoir. All the fluid does is move from the plunger of the MC to the clutch slave and back again. When the MC gets black looking that's when there's REALLY problems from neglect! You should flush all your hydraulic systems every 2 - 4 years... -
I agree!!

Speaking of PM's, there's a change in there to!!!

We will be all leaving the campsite together on Thursday for dinner at the Charcoal Corral in Perry NY which is right next door to the drive in. Check out my earlier "Friday Agenda" thread. If you find you're running late and don't get in town before 5:00 the address is posted in the agenda too, it's easy to find, just follow Rt 39 east thru Arcade, past all the windmills, 39 turns left at a crossroad after the windmills, and a ways up goes straight at a fork, not to the left, you go through a cute little town, then back to open highways until you come to Perry, NY it's on the left. If you get into the village of Perry you went too far! I'm pretty sure you have already been there in the past either at the WNY rally or perhaps on one of my old Fall Foliage rides. Really looking forward to seeing you and Kim next week!!

We have yet one more item coming in to be added to the "MYSTERY BOX" that we will be raffling off at the Friday dinner at Chanderson's making the total value WELL OVER $150!!! We are doing what is known as a card raffle so that EVERYBODY has a chance of winning, not who has the most money wins!! BUT, you HAVE to attend and be present to win!!!!! Cards will go on sale during dinner! We are limiting the number of cards any one person can buy to make sure every person has a chance, remember there is only ONE winning card, so all it takes is 1 card to win! We are planning on using two decks, each deck will be a different color, so we will allow anyone to buy one of each color!! Price of each card will be announced at dinner! So, make sure you attend the WNY Rally!! Remember the theme is 60's Hippy Generation with a dance party at the campgrounds following dinner at 8:00! There WILL be prizes for best costumes, best dancers, etc...

OK they finally announced what movies are playing at the Drive In next to the Charcoal Corral!! One side is a couple of disney movies, Pete's Dragon and Finding Dory, which who knows maybe some of you may want to watch, but at the other side is Bad Moms, followed by the new Bourne movie!! Saw the previews for Bad Moms and that's the one I'm gonna watch, starts at 8:35. I would also like to see the Jason Bourne one too but it does not start until 10:25, and home is over a half hour away, and I'm one of the ride captains for the Friday ride starting at 10:30 AM... Hope some of you decide it would be FUN to go to a Drive In on a motorcycle, don't forget chairs, or at least a blanket, and an FM radio!! See you there!!!!!

Gas Issue Guage misleading reading
bongobobny replied to Statussymbol's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yup, when the amber fuel light comes on you still have 2 bars on the gauge, good enough for around 40 miles, give or take, kind of like the "Low Fuel" message on a car. Sad truth, all the RSV's, and the 1st gens as well, read about 10% high. Being an electronic speedometer there is no calibration to the assembly itself, it just reads the incoming pulses from the sensor. They DO make devices called speedometer healers that actually change the frequency of the pulses. Not sure where to guide you to but I do know a few members have fixed the problem. Myself, I use the much more accurate MPH on my GPS... -
Yup! We used to have a bag attached with velcro (stock setup) on my backrest but it developed a hole. Last year at Wilson's Leather wife found a small black handbag she liked, so we just attached a piece of velcro to it and it's a perfect replacement but it's a little smaller than the original bag, but that's a good thing seeing as the hole was caused by the metal hinge for the backrest...

Yup!! The Morgan is made in England, therefore the lines are metric! Hey, just thought of something, wonder if the company is the same company that made the Morgan automobile... -
PS Hey, just noticed, they fit the ULTRA rare INVISiBLE '14 Venture!!!!! And, according to them won't fit older than '09 even though they are the same bike...
-
No, they don't affect opening of the saddlebag lids but we found them kind of useless, small and hard to get to, especially if you have passenger armrests installed...
-
Cool!! NEVER saw one of them!

Orlin is a GREAT guy to know!!

Typical Government Tom! I hate to admit it, but I like and trust my Government less and less!! Too much bureaucracy, incompetence, and downright dishonesty, and I'm a Veteran... Hey, they tried to kill me off but I survived Vietnam...

Rob Swallows brings out an excellent point, all the "demonstrations" for equal rights in the South like Selma, Alabama, etc. etc. etc. but at least there was no burning and looting like there was later on. Yes Jack I was in my late teens for the Watts riots (and the Detroit Race Riots) but far away in Suburban Buffalo area. You must have already moved out of the area, I believe you said you were originally from Kenmore, I grew up in Hamburg. Bufalo had it's race riots as well in the late 60's but nothing like the big ones...
-
Yup! Only the '85 had them, I've got one around here somewhere... Funny story about this Dan, I found a woman's purse in K Mart just about the same size for $15. Installed the 4 grommets and viola, instant new bag with compartments in it too!
-
Hey! I remember you from Don's MD!! Glad you're home safe and sound! Quite the adventure, eh?!!?
-
Actually I think the Watts riots were the first but don't quote me on this...

Carburator Kits:

YUCK!!! -
How much oil?? Just under 4 quarts, manual says 3.7. You want to check the level after starting and running engine for a few moments to make sure oil filter is full, and then wait a good 4 - 8 hours minimum before checking the site glass for proper level. It's a good practice to pour some oil into the filter prior to installing however do not fill up as it mounts at a 90 degree angle so if you put too much in it will just pour out while screwing it in. With the bike level (try a 2x4 under the kickstand) check the site glass it should be around halfway full. No more than 2/3 up the glass!! Too much oil in it and the excess oil will get blown out of the engines as blowby and into the airbox, carbs, etc and that attracts dirt etc! You need to let the bike set for many hours because it takes forever for oil to drain back into the crankcase and off of the parts it lubes...
