  1. Yup!! I knew that! Didn't have my coffee yet...
  2. Hmmmmm, very interesting! Did not know this company existed! I see they have a phone number, call them and ask if the unit is designed for 2 pickup coils or 1 pickup coil. '84 thru '90 are 2 pickup coils, the last couple of years they switched to single pickup, so if they say for 2 pickup then you're good to go...
  3. Yup! Very real, and very Canadian...
  4. Here's a start, I need some too!! http://wingstuff.com/products/3604-chrome-allen-bolt-caps-in-5mm-6mm-8mm
  5. Not that I know of. I just know about the generic universal variable spark gap box found at most Auto Parts stores...
  6. My question is where are the little bits of broken off metal???
  7. Yup!! The resistive winding tends to warp a lot!
  8. That bike has been around for quite a while now!
  9. Carrying a baseball bat on board comes to mind...
  10. I got pi$$ed at mine as I think my battery took a dump!! Was fine Saturday, went to take it out Sunday and it wouldn't turn over at all! Took car instead but put battery on charger. Started right up when we got home, but this morning dead again! Battery is out and now on 2 amp slow charge, I did charge it up again this afternoon and load tested it, didn't look all that good! Sooo, time for another...
  11. Moonshine! Ya ran some moonshine!!
  12. Hmmm, it looks like it might work, but most of us use the Morgan Carbtune, or 4 vacuum gauges mounted on a panel...
  13. Best way to test for side play is with wheel removed, try twisting the swing arm assembly at the ends sideways, they should be absolutely rigid. If it feels like you can move it sideways say like 1/8'; or so, or if it feels like it has a "click" then either the retaining bolts are loose or your bearings are shot...
  14. Yup! Works better with all the teeth intact!
  15. Sounds like you need a visit from Mr. Wizard... I have no complaints with 10, works fine for me!! I went from 7 to 10 on an older computer, maybe about 6 yrs old or more...
  16. We used to have a member with the screen name "Lady Rider" for several years... She was on my friends list, last activity here was 2010 but her bike was listed as an '03 Silverwing.
  17. Agreed David!! It's the usual cause...
  18. There ya go!! Of course once you find how much time and work is involved you will understand the cost, strictly in labor!! It's definitely more than a one or two hour job... Very doable though!
  19. Well, by golly, if anybody would know, Gary would!! Myself I have not heard of this issue from anyone on the site, but that does not mean it does not exist! Yes, The connector you mentioned HAS caused issues in the past with lost pickup coil signal. That's the problem with 25+ year old bikes and electrical connectors in general... The Yamaha TM lists the spec as 110 ohm plus or minus 10% at 68 degrees F. Sorry, I quit working 4 years ago so I don't have easy access to the temperature conversion charts but as you probably already know resistance goes up with temperature. If you measure the resistance at the TCI connector it should give you a relative indication of the condition of the connector you are referring to. Other than that you would have to use an oscilloscope to dynamically test the output at the TCI. Are you having an issue with your Ignitec unit???
  20. Well, besides Ebay, you may want to drop Skydoc_17 a line, he gives pretty good prices...
  21. Betcha someone here will want them!! Are they still in good shape or did you end up mangling them getting them off??
  22. Hmmm, just checked, don't see her listed any more, must not be a member any more. Regardless, hopefully someone can and will rescue her!
  23. Lady Rider from this site?? Kinda desolate in MT, hope she finds help...
  24. My vote is for shift shaft, shift drum, linkage etc over the gearbox, our transmissions are pretty much bullet proof...
  25. In a word, maybe... Does the swing arm have any noticeable side movement?? If so most likely bad bearings, they are probably the originals and almost 30 years old!
