  1. As far as the seat, member Rick Butler does this and does an excellent job!! A lot of us have the "Butler Butt Mod" done...
  2. The vacuum port is no longer needed???? How does it know when to advance the spark for acceleration????? From the "delta" from the pickup coils, I guess...
  3. Yes, that one seems to have very nice definition even on full screen! Right now there's a charcoal Slingshot in the parking lot...
  4. Make sure the clamps on the triple tree are loose too! Try taking the bolts completely out and carefully pry them open a little as well. Yup, trying to move both of them up together with the wheel still attached is NOT the way to go...
  5. Yup, and it has been done more than once! The 1200 VMax heads bolt directly up to both the 1200 and 1300 engines except you have to either cut down the little engine side covers or use VMax ones. The V Boost can be installed as well with a little McGuiver'ing and just a slight hammer tweak to one part of the frame for clearance. For me it started out a couple of years ago getting a pretty good deal on a pair of VMax heads and doing a little "research" on thicker valve springs and buying a set from PCW Racing in Schenectady NY One thing lead to another and after talking to John at PCW along with the springs I went with their racing cams, oversize pistons and a few other things. I ended up getting a very good deal on a 1300 engine complete with carbs, etc to replace my low mileage (18k) 1200 engine. In the mean time I was made aware of this "kit" that bolts into the existing carbs via where the sliders/diaphragms go that converts it into fuel injection which is my next "Venture" as soon as I finally pick up my engine from PCW. There are times I think I am crazy, and other times I know I have rocks in my head, for spending all this money on a bike I would be hard pressed to sell for $2500, I will NEVER get my money back, but I love the bike that much!! It's like the guy that back in the '60s bought a used tired out '56 Chevy that he still owns but meanwhile 3 engines later and a ton of aftermarket stuff has one of the meanest street rods in the nation...
  6. Yah, I know that Don, it's the principal of it!! Even without the Kyosks though, the "recommended" tip on receipts on most of the places compute the tip wITH the tax amount included. Othere do not include the tax. I'm reaching a point in life where if you suggest I also tip on the TAX, I probably won't eat there again... Unless the service is really bad I generally tip 20%, sometimes more, on the pre tax amount.
  7. Yup! I'm gonna end up with a VMax'ified brand new everything 1st gen!! Next expense, over 1K for fuel injection...
  8. I looked at that one, but one BIG problem, the '83 is NOT directly compatible with the '84 and '85!!! Yes, you can make an '84 thru '89 work on an '83 if you change the vacuum line from the vacuum boost sensor from the carbs to the intake manifold. These vacuums are 180 degrees out of phase, the vacuum advance will work backwards using an '84 TCI on an '83, or an'83 TCI on an '84
  9. 60 psi... I knew a guy who did miracles with 90 to 110 psi but he was unique...
  10. Yup! And the water pump elbow, and the foot pegs, and the...
  11. No two heads are shaped the same!!! I personally do not like how the HJC fits mine, the Nolan fit perfect...
  12. Ehhhh, just McGuyver it Dan...
  13. And yet the water/waitress still gets a 20% tip!! Ya know what really frosts my cookies with those? Check the recommended tip, the 20% INCLUDES the TAX!!! I do NOT tip on tax...
  14. Heck, I've got over 5K into the motor alone, maybe closer to 6K. Add another 2K into everything else plus the 2.7K I paid for the bike with 8K miles...
  15. Here's a link for ya... http://www.carmousa.com/yamaha-xvz1200-venture-hitachi-tid1417-26h10-c-493_4686_2129_2612.php Never mind, I don't see the actual TCI. Their link for the '84 thru '89 does work, http://www.carmousa.com/xvz1300-venture-royal-star-tid1428-tid1494-yamaha-xvz12-xvz13-replacer-unit-p-1064.php?cPath=493_4686_2129_2946&zenid=rbjopuohds7kpnpt67299tg467
  16. Ventuesome, there was another recent thread that brought out another manufacturer of replacement TCI's but not sure if they have one compatible with '83. Of course you could always reroute the vacuum line coming from the boost sensor to manifold vacuum instead of carb vacuum and use '84 thru '89...
  17. Yup!! Yes, the 1st gen Venture has the heart of a sports bike, but what you described sounds like a tired out in need of lots of TLC bike...
  18. Yah, good idea! Check first with voltmeter to see if 12 volts is coming to one side of the thermostat, then jumper to the other side. Downside if the fan motor doesn't run the fan motor may still be good and you have a bad ground on the fan motor. As long as 12 volts is getting to the temp sensor I am thinking the sensor is the most likely suspect, but other things like something stuck in the fan blade, etc could also be the issue..,.
  19. Hmmmm, this thread is reminiscent of some of the ones E Fishin C would comment in..,.
  20. Yup, Olds...
  21. Looks like it went down pretty hard from the 1st picture... There looks to be around a hundred dollars give or take of salvageable parts there.
  22. Darn, clear across the country...
  23. Yes, and keep in mind Rickard Racing lives in Michigan near Detroit, the Murder City! I almost would feel safer in South Chicago...
