For best reception you want your antenna as high as possible. On my 1st gen I made up a small metal bracket and glued it to the top center of my windshield. I ran the cable along the edge of the windshield and held it in place by using plastic door edge molding around the edge of the shield. I had less drop out after doing that...

I did two MK2's but it was several years ago. I can't remember seeing any difference in the washers. I think I would have noticed if one was different...
Funny you should post this, I just used one of those sample packs this afternoon on my interior on the dash and I have to admit it worked pretty decent!!
If the R/R was causing a short between two of the stator wires it would cause excessive current on the windings. If that were the case though you would not get any charging of the battery the same as if the stator was shot...

I would forward that message to Pay Pal!!! Sounds to me like he couldn't afford the loss and is hoping to swindle the cost out of you or it was never stolen in the first place and he is trying to get it for free! I would file a counter claim against him...
