    Yup!! Jeff is spot on! Heat and mechanical jarring (smacking it) are the two enemies of magnets...

    Yup, the coil around the magnetic reed switch sure got hot! How it works: As long as there is current flowing a magnetic field is present around the coil. This causes the contacts in the glass reed switch to close. Depending on how the circuit is configured it will either turn on or turn off an indicator...

    Actually, he lies!! We very seldom go to DQ, there are lots more better Ice Cream places around like the one in Batavia, the one in Boston, the one in Ellicottville, the one in East Aurora, etc...
