I've the same issue with the second gen. I can still lift the first gen without too much trouble, but my second gen is a bear to get up on the center stand.

Wishing everyone a Happy Easter!!! Hope everyone enjoys the feasting, and the bunnies and chocolate and fun with the kids / grandkids, but let's especially take time to remember what the Holiday is really about.

I like "peep" sites. My shootin' bench at the cabin is 68 yards, and I can shoot as good with the "peep" sites as with a scope. LOL.

Back before we had this fancy internet thing available....or at least before I was aware of it....I drove from NE Ohio (Youngstown) to Philly to buy a KZ1000 frame that they didn't actually have. I called a salvage yard looking for one and they said they had one....Then called again a week later, before making the 7 hour drive and was assured they had it, but when I got there I was told there may be a bent one somewhere in that "pile" in the yard. Spent an hour looking through "The pile" but no luck. They were apathetic about my complaint that they assured me they had something they didn't. What could I do but head home.

I certainly understand . I sometimes question the wisdom of it, but I still feel the benefits outweigh the risk. There's a feeling I get riding that I haven't been able to get otherwise. I think of when I first take the bike out of it's Winter resting spot, ( Heated shed) and go for the first ride of the year.....Man...that feels great....I instantly remember why I enjoy riding. Wish I could do it more...As I age I can see where I'll eventually want to give it up, but not there yet. As part of my job, I regularly use ladders to get up on commercial roofs; I'll be doing it today. I seem to mind that more then I did when I was younger but still have to, as it's part of my job, so I still do it. Like when riding, now, I'm a bit more cautious and thoughtful before jumping on or off that ladder. Transitioning from ladder to roof or roof to ladder is always the scary part. We all need to decide how to handle the risk / reward thing for ourselves. Godspeed.

The future of touring bikes, an addendum to Don's thread..
uncledj replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
That's a big reason why I didn't go with a Goldwing. They're TOO Darned smooth. I'm not into the V-Twin thing...too rough....I think the Venture V4 is just right for me. -
That CT110 I had, with the HI/LO Transmission would go anywhere. A very handy little bike.

I never was much into the whole Harley thing. A lot of folks think "If it ain't a Harley, it ain't s##t". That attitude was always a real turn off to me. I've always been a Honda or Yammy fan, and you can't deny the styling of first or second gen Ventures. Add to that the reliability and the performance...especially of the first gens, and it's a no brainer to me. Let's not forget the bang for the buck aspect either. As I'm getting older, I'm starting to look at 3 wheels. I worry more than I used to about flats and keeping the bike upright, whether rolling or stopped, ....especially when Lisa's on the back. There's probably a Can Am in my future, but I can't imagine ever giving up my Venture(s) , although some day I'll have to. As for Yammy, I'd have to agree that they'll have a hard time competing against the likes of Harley and Indian, only because they're considered the "Cool" bike, regardless of other factors.

Lisa and I went and saw an ABBA Tribute band last night at the Woodward Theater in Mt. Vernon, OH. Woodward Theater is claimed to be the oldest still functioning opera house in the US. Wasn't quite ABBA, but still a fun night. Those so inclined were welcomed to dance on the floor level, and I was surprised to see just how many folks were down there having a good time I believe it was called an ABBA Dance Party. Name of the band was Dancing Queen. If they perform down your way, you may want to check them out.

Lisa and I may be joining some friends in Myrtle Beach, but will be in the car.

True story: I needed those 10mm sockets yesterday and couldn't find 'em.
-
I remember a thread a while back about sockets that are hard to keep track of. I believe it was 10mm, and in my case 12mm seem to have legs as well. I was at a Tractor Supply picking up softener salt and, as usual, had to peruse the bins of cool stuff up near the registers when I saw the answer to my 10mm socket problem.

I'd be up for a trip down to Asheville or the like.....Is the WNY Rally now a dead issue?

Had a REALLY close call a few weeks back. In my big ol' Ram Pickup with the wife, heading home from helping a friend with a boiler install. Was near Y-Town, on 680, speed limit 65. I was in the passing lane behind another pickup. Plenty of room between the truck and I, and we were both doing about 70. I was satisfied with the speed...point being that I was NOT tailgating. We were both slowly overtaking a SUV in the middle lane, and that SUV had a block of lettering as a rear window decal. I glanced over to try to read what the decal said, and did notice with my peripheal that the pickup in front of me had sped up and got in front of the SUV. I turned my head to look ahead and there was a mini-van STOPPED in the passing lane. In that flash of a second I ascertained that I was going to clip the rear driver corner of this van, as I lurched the vehicle left, (squealing tires) and dunno how I missed it, but I went into the median....stayed on the median for a few yards and gently coaxed it back onto the road.... Lisa looked over at me and said "How the hell did you miss that guy"...I dunnno.....Hand of God.... Spent some time on that drive home repeatedly thanking the Good Lord for what didn't happen.... I think it's that sort of thing that shows us that there's more than we know going on. Like many of you have had...That situation left me with NO time to think, but simply react...and I did so in a way that prevented catastrophe. I think that "reaction" is either our true self, unbound by the limits of this body, stepping in, or it truly is the hand of God helping us out......Most of us have had these things happen....some of us (me) have had it happen more than once. I think that should give us all something to think about, especially on this holiday, when we celebrate the birth of the one person who acted / acts as a bridge between this world and the next. Happy Birthday Jesus....And THANK YOU !!!!.....Can't wait to meet ya....

Yup....it's kinda scary how quickly time goes by...looking back. Seems like it flys by, looking backwards, but seems to crawl along, looking forward... Gonna hit the big 60 next month. Not looking forward to that. As far as the seasons go,....it seems that Summer goes by so quick, but Winter lasts so long. On the good side....I'm almost done with leaves for this year....YAY !!!...

Here we go again with the Torque vs Horsepower discussion, but I thought I'd learned that Horsepower is just an extrapolation from the torque value.....???
-
I'll be thinkin' of you. Positive thoughts and prayers. Whenever I say that, I truly take a minute to think of the person needing help and ask for God's Grace. Seems like I'm doing that more and more as we're getting older. Take care, and get better soon.
-
WOW !!! Glad you're still with us. As long as you're ok, all the rest will work itself out. Thoughts and prayers on the way....

"Leaf Season" is my least favorite time of year. I'd rather be doing other things, but when ya live in the woods, ...it's to be expected.

I was recently given a Gravely 12G tractor and a TracVac leaf vac that hadn't run in almost 20 years. Had a bit of work to get the Tractor going, but the Trac Vac just needed the old gas cleaned out and it took right off. This setup ROCKS. Amazing how well it picks up the leaves. Lift the deck and plow into a pile of leaves and it sucks them up Works better than I'd hoped. Still need the leaf blower for finish up, but the bulk of the leaves get picked up by this beast. I'm quite pleased.

Dumped a half can of Seafoam in the tank to stabilize the fuel...Rode it a few miles to get the Seafoam into the carbs....Turned off the fuel and let it run itself out....put it in it's heated shed and covered. Told her I'd see her in the Spring.

Great looking bike. Treat her right and she'll be around a long time... Welcome!!!

Driving up to Y-town to install a boiler for a friend....He hasn't had heat since last Spring...
