  1. At $7.67 per gallon of gas WOW....and I've been bitc**ng about $3.19 a gallon. Our 2 vehicles are gas hogs, so we may want to start riding more as well. Won't be taking the motorhome out much either.
  2. Congrats on your find. I've done some basic mods to my First Gen, MKll, (clutch, progressive springs and replaced the fuse holder...don't remember if I did the ignition switch / relay upgrade on that bike or not, but never got so ambitious to make the changes that you mention. There's still a few old timers around that should chime in with some advice. Those old Ventures are a BLAST to ride.
  3. Reserved one of the cabins for Lisa and I for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Couldn't find where the specific cabin is located. On the lake, no bathroom sorta thing. We were gonna bring the motorhome, but with current gas prices, it was cheaper to rent a cabin. Anyhoo, we've a reservation.
  4. I'm not NEARLY as knowledgeable as some of the "Old Timers" on here, but I can't help but wonder about the health of the ignition coils or the ....what is it...???.....TCS module?. I seem to remember that the coils can become cracked and act crazy, and the TCS is a mysterious black box...
  5. My head hurts.
  6. Put the plow on the 4 wheeler, but haven't had enough snow to be worth plowing yet. 700' of driveway make it a necessity if we get a heavy snow, and I've only had 2 winters in 20 where I haven't needed it. ......I hope this will be the 3rd such Winter.
  7. When I was a teen growing up in Youngstown, there was a pretty cool van club. It was Steel Valley, or Steel City vans....something like that. Those folks came up with some pretty cool and unique conversion vans. I remember a van show at least once with the vans on display throughout the Southern Park Mall.
  8. Well handled, and glad that you and the wife are OK. Amazing how time slows down in a situation like that, and you're able to remember every action clearly.
  9. Thoughts and prayers are with you. I've always appreciated what you've done to create and maintain this site, and was happy that you didn't sell it years ago when you had the chance. As I've said before, it's a rare site that avoids much of the negativity that I've found on other sites....I dunno why people are like that....I do miss the get togethers and look forward to attending them again. This whole covid bs, whether real or perceived, has done so much damage in so many ways that I don't know that the US can fully recover. The world is changing, and not for the better. As a tech resource alone, this is a valuable site, but the camaraderie, humor and sometimes drama keep me coming back. I'm here for the long haul. Take care boss....you'll be in my thoughts.
  10. I see you're listed as living in Marion. I live maybe 20 miles East of ya. As it happens, I am pretty good at soldering, which I often have to do as part of my job. I work in Marion from time to time, (was there yesterday) and would be happy to give it a shot if we can arrange to get it to me, or perhaps the next time I'm over that-a-way I can swing by and take care of it. I'm guessing it'd be a brass to brass joint / connection....???
  11. Get rid of stuff....Including some of the 8 scoots that mostly sit. Got wayyy too much stuff and I need to start thinking about getting ready to retire and move out of this place.
  12. What a great looking bike. Welcome !!!
  13. Great article. The used bike they reference is being sold at a reduced price because it needs the clutch slave cylinder rebuilt?.....That's a pretty easy repair.
  14. I think we're just catching the top edge of this system here in Central OH, but it's scary out there. I've a house in the woods, and I moved all the vehicles to a spot without much danger from trees. I love trees, but the big ones are a real threat in high winds. Learned that the hard way.... I had this van pulled off the driveway back in 2017. Thoughts are with you folks catching the brunt of this.
  15. Rode my old Nighthawk S about 15 miles once in single digit temps. I won't do it again..lol... No fairing, no heated grips or seat and just jeans and a winter coat and cotton gloves. I was just trying to move it for storage, but 'bout froze to death. That wind while rolling cuts right through "normal" clothing.
  16. Wishing a very happy Thanksgiving to all my Venturerider Family. It's a day to disregard all the crazy and bad things going on in this world, and reflect on the good. Take time to appreciate and be grateful for all the GOOD things in the world, and in your life. I'd have to say this site, and my Venturerider Family are a positive thing in my life, and something I'm very grateful for.
  17. Been there, done that.....I was pretty sure it was the front wheel bearing...put new tires on it and it went away.
  18. I gotta agree. Great parts bike....especially if the plastics are intact, but you can get a running Venture pretty cheaply. Great bikes.
  19. I didn't think you're supposed to leave AGM batteries on a trickle charger for the entire season. OK with lead acid, but AGM's don't like it.
  20. Stuck float sounds reasonable to me, but would the fuel flow to the carbs without the pump running?
  21. It's all part of building back better.
  22. The best lookin' year for the second gens.....and the fastest of them too !!!
  23. Trying to make room in the garage, and am looking at this old CT110, and think she's gotta go. This was Dads' bike, ...he bought it new in '81 and to this day it has 831 miles on it. It sat for a while, so I went over it, put new tires on it and brought it back to life, although it was just a bike I'd use for riding around a friends farm when we'd take the motorhome there for 4th of July and such. My brother moved down to the lower Fl. Keys and I thought that since I didn't use it much, he may want it to run around Big Pine Key for fishing, or to run to the grocery store or whatever, so I gave it to him. He had it parked in the garage, and then came Hurricane Irma. He got the heck out of Dodge and came Back up to Ohio to wait out the storm. When he was allowed back down, maybe 3 weeks later, the house was still there, although the roof had enough damage to have damage in the home as well. The garage, which was the ground floor of the house...garage under the house....was subjected to 30" of saltwater for a day or two. Car in the garage and bike sat in this water, were moved around the garage a bit...bike was on it's side like that the whole time. Car and pretty much anything on the floor was totaled. When he got back down, he had bigger fish to fry than to worry about this bike, but another week or so into it, he drained the oil and flushed the crankcase with kerosene a couple of times..put fresh oil in it and would kick it over every once in a while just to keep the motor from seizing up. After a year or so of doing nothing other than an occasional kick to keep the motor free,....the kickstarter snapped something inside the case and no longer turns the engine. That's when he asked me if I wanted it back, or if he should trash it. I took it back, figuring that someday I may try to bring it back, but I'm starting to think the saltwater may have damaged it beyond repair. It still rolls, but the brakes are seized, and everything is rusted, although early on I coated the whole bike with Fluidfilm. Needing room in the garage is making me re-prioritize what I need to keep and what to get rid of. This one's tough 'cause it was Dads, but I think he'd understand. Next I need to think about my old Yammy TT600 and BMW Funduro 650. Need to make room and let go of old desires.
  24. LOVE my pillow top......Very cushie for my tushie.
