how "fast" are these bikes
uncledj replied to DeeGee's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I know for a fact that my first gen will smoke a sportster 1200 night train. And....it'll do it with me and my wife riding, loaded with luggage. Wasn't even close. It was a friend of mine on the Sportster that still is amazed at how my first gen runs. -
Is this still on? Has a weekend been decided on?

What a great weekend that was... Weather in the upper 70s and low 80s, sunny, did some riding, had a great raft trip. Advice: Don't drink too many long island iced teas on a raft trip. Was a bit more "fuzzy" than I wanted to be, ....but at least my clothes didn't fall off. Thank God..... Anyhoo.....GREAT WEEKEND !!! Can't wait 'till next year to do it all over again. Might take a whole week next year.

My buddy was riding my first gen (87) and I was on my second gen (06) and we lined up (I already knew what'd happen) and my first gen smoked my second gen. It was pretty frustrating when I hit the rev limiter on Black Cherry, if I knew exactly when it's gonna cut out I could avoid it and improve the 1/4 mile performance by eliminating the recover time. Anyhoo, Ol' Blue IS a wheelie poppin' tire smokin' beast......no doubt. -
Heading up to the cabin in North Central PA for a long weekend of riding, and inner tubing down the Susquehanna river. Looks like it might be a wet ride up.....Oh well....

Happy Birthday !!! and many happy returns.

Rivco Center Stand vs AIS Valve
uncledj replied to MikeWa's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yeah....the instructions were a bit difficult to understand. I got rid of the bracket all-together, rotated the thingy that attaches to the valve 90 degrees, got rid of the pre formed hose and used a piece of reinforced 5/8 hose in it's place. I ended up with plenty of room....way more than I'd have had if I'd followed the instructions, and 500 miles later, have had no problems. -
I'll go with the flow.....

I sent her a few $$$. Hope it helps.

I'm definitely interested, but I know the wife wouldn't be too keen on the tent thing. If there's cabins available, that'd definitely improve the odds that we'd show up. If it's a long weekend, we could bring the motorhome and trailer the bike, and I'm sure she'd be up for that. I can give you a better answer once I know the particulars.

I believe the links commonly discussed actually raise the rear of the bike an inch or so. I think the reasoning is to shift more of the load towards the front.

Towards the end of last riding season, I was on a paved country road, travelling about 50mph. I crested a hill and right at the top the paved road turned to fresh gravel...and deep..... Instant case of puckered butt......I slowed gradually, until I was going fast enough to retain control, but slow enough to handle the gravel...maybe 15mph. I did that for about 3 miles until I got back to a paved road, but, especially on my second gen, I think I'll turn around the next time I get in a similar situation. Scary.

I've a set of leveling links to install on my 06. I have a Rivco centerstand that I'd installed a month or so ago, and was wondering if putting it up on the centerstand would be enough to install the links, or if I'll have to lift the bike further. ???

A good friend of mine bought a 86 Cavalcade. He seems pretty pleased with it, but the compressor for the air suspension is kaput, so the po has been pressurizing it to 40 psi, apparently through one fitting that feeds the front and rear. Friend says the front end is bottoming out. It doesn't seem right that the front and rear would run the same pressure, but I don't know anything about the 'cade. I'm about 2 1/2 hrs away from him, so I can't easily tear into it to figure it out. I told him my guess would be that he either needs new springs or more air pressure, and that I'd think the front and rear shocks should have separate fittings to pressurize. He's looking to me for answers, and I got nuthin'. Anybody know a good Cavalvade forum? Just tryin' to help out a buddy. Thanks:)

If it's a spur of the moment ride, I'll go with a chance of rain, but will put it off if it's actively raining. If it's a planned ride with friends, with a fixed destination where I'll be staying overnight, rain won't stop me. On my first gen I generally don't get wet until I stop anyway. Don't know about my second gen. Haven't ridden it in the rain yet.

I can take the heat, but when it gets above the low / mid 90s I avoid rides that'll put me in stop n go traffic. When it's hot I wanna keep rollin' as much as possible.

My "parts" are turnin purple! HELP!
uncledj replied to Semi-retired's topic in Poor Man Tips and Fixes
BLASPHEMY !!! I think my 06 Black Cherry is quite possibly the best lookin' bike I've ever seen. -
I look at what caliber the cops use. Used to be 9mm, but mostly 40 Smith now. I have / sometimes carry a Taurus PT140. Reasonably priced, carries easily, fits my hand well, shoots great and I've never had a problem with it. Only maybe 400 to 500 rounds through it. Different types of ammo and it all shoots well. If ya wanna spend more money, there's plenty of expensive stuff out there, but I just don't see the need to spend more.....Mine works just fine. Best of luck to ya.

Rivco center stand - good news / bad news
uncledj replied to speakerfritz's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
No, my bike's not lowered. I ended up doing away with the bracket all-together, and mounted the part that the stand was hitting to the emissions valve with a piece of 5/8 hose, and doing away with the original pre formed (curved) hose. Gave me plenty of clearance. -
When's this gonna be? Some friends and I take a trip to my cabin in North Central PA, near Driftwood every Summer. We haven't set a date for this years' trip yet, but you'd be welcome to stay at the cabin any of the days we're there. There'll be 5 guys riding together. There's 11 bunks in the cabin.

Rivco center stand - good news / bad news
uncledj replied to speakerfritz's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I put one on my 06 RSV recently. Like you said, it's a quality piece. All went well, although I had a bit of confusion relocating the emmissions valve. I think it takes a bit more oomph to get it on the center stand than on my First Gen, but it's do-able. All in all I'm pretty happy with it. -
You forgot: Man who keep hand in pocket feel cockey all day. LOL Great post.

A friends grandson was just killed in Columbus. I don't know the particulars yet, but I saw it on the news and was reported that he was travelling at a high rate of speed and hit a car. Crotch rocket. Died at the scene. It's sad....he was 26, with a young child. I didn't know him well, but he seemed like a nice kid. Sad. I hope he's in a better place now.

emissions valve relocation, Help!

Consider what I said. Get rid of the bracket that holds the thingy and you'll have plenty of room.- 10 replies
