A good friend of mine bought a 86 Cavalcade. He seems pretty pleased with it, but the compressor for the air suspension is kaput, so the po has been pressurizing it to 40 psi, apparently through one fitting that feeds the front and rear. Friend says the front end is bottoming out. It doesn't seem right that the front and rear would run the same pressure, but I don't know anything about the 'cade. I'm about 2 1/2 hrs away from him, so I can't easily tear into it to figure it out. I told him my guess would be that he either needs new springs or more air pressure, and that I'd think the front and rear shocks should have separate fittings to pressurize. He's looking to me for answers, and I got nuthin'. Anybody know a good Cavalvade forum? Just tryin' to help out a buddy. Thanks:)

If it's a spur of the moment ride, I'll go with a chance of rain, but will put it off if it's actively raining. If it's a planned ride with friends, with a fixed destination where I'll be staying overnight, rain won't stop me. On my first gen I generally don't get wet until I stop anyway. Don't know about my second gen. Haven't ridden it in the rain yet.

I can take the heat, but when it gets above the low / mid 90s I avoid rides that'll put me in stop n go traffic. When it's hot I wanna keep rollin' as much as possible.

My "parts" are turnin purple! HELP!
uncledj replied to Semi-retired's topic in Poor Man Tips and Fixes
BLASPHEMY !!! I think my 06 Black Cherry is quite possibly the best lookin' bike I've ever seen. -
I look at what caliber the cops use. Used to be 9mm, but mostly 40 Smith now. I have / sometimes carry a Taurus PT140. Reasonably priced, carries easily, fits my hand well, shoots great and I've never had a problem with it. Only maybe 400 to 500 rounds through it. Different types of ammo and it all shoots well. If ya wanna spend more money, there's plenty of expensive stuff out there, but I just don't see the need to spend more.....Mine works just fine. Best of luck to ya.

Rivco center stand - good news / bad news
uncledj replied to speakerfritz's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
No, my bike's not lowered. I ended up doing away with the bracket all-together, and mounted the part that the stand was hitting to the emissions valve with a piece of 5/8 hose, and doing away with the original pre formed (curved) hose. Gave me plenty of clearance. -
When's this gonna be? Some friends and I take a trip to my cabin in North Central PA, near Driftwood every Summer. We haven't set a date for this years' trip yet, but you'd be welcome to stay at the cabin any of the days we're there. There'll be 5 guys riding together. There's 11 bunks in the cabin.

Rivco center stand - good news / bad news
uncledj replied to speakerfritz's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I put one on my 06 RSV recently. Like you said, it's a quality piece. All went well, although I had a bit of confusion relocating the emmissions valve. I think it takes a bit more oomph to get it on the center stand than on my First Gen, but it's do-able. All in all I'm pretty happy with it. -
You forgot: Man who keep hand in pocket feel cockey all day. LOL Great post.

A friends grandson was just killed in Columbus. I don't know the particulars yet, but I saw it on the news and was reported that he was travelling at a high rate of speed and hit a car. Crotch rocket. Died at the scene. It's sad....he was 26, with a young child. I didn't know him well, but he seemed like a nice kid. Sad. I hope he's in a better place now.

Consider what I said. Get rid of the bracket that holds the thingy and you'll have plenty of room.- 10 replies

emissions valve relocation, Help!
uncledj replied to Dave3's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I looked up this old thread, since I had a similar problem. I couldn't make much sense out of the Rivco instructions about flipping the bracket, and didn't much care for the part where it said you may have to further bend the bracket. After looking at it every which-a-way, I decided to leave the valve mounted to the frame, and to simply eliminate the bracket that holds the ??? round thingy that has a 5/8 pre molded hose that comes off the top and curves 90 degrees to go into the emissions valve. What I did was simply eliminate the pre formed hose.... rotate the ??? thingy 90 degrees and use a short piece of 5/8 hose to mount it directly to the valve. With the short, stronger, reinforced hose, and two small screw type (radiator) clamps,...it's quite secure without the bracket. My only concern is whether or not it'll cause any problems having rotated the thingamajig, having the hose come out, now sideways, as compared to out the top, as it was originally. It's plenty secure, and is now well out of the way of the centerstand. I've a couple hundred miles since I've done this with no issues noticed. Any opinions?- 10 replies

Well my friends,, its time for Tippy and I to go chase the wind..

Godspeed. Ride safe. Have a great journey. -
It should already be running high speed for cooling. (Low speed for heating) The industry standard wire colors for the blower motor are black for hi speed, .....red for low speed.... The white will be common, and there's probably a blue and a yellow which would be the medium hi and medium low speeds; depending on how many speeds the motor has. There'll probably be a couple of brown wires as well. (to the capacitor) Anyhoo, unless the system is very old, there should be an electronic control board that, among other things, will switch power to the blower. There should be a terminal on there designated for blower cool, and one for heat. Make sure the black (High speed) wire from the blower is landed on the blower cool terminal. Any unused wires from the blower motor will either be insulated (wire nutted / taped)....or they may be landed on "Park" terminals on the board. "Park" terminals are dead.....just a place to connect an unused wire. Hope this helps, but if ya need to, feel free to pm or call me.

F4 windshield performance
uncledj replied to orlean1's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Got my windshield, haven't installed it yet. Are there any tricks to the install? Anyhoo, I got a call from Don who wanted to make sure that I received it, and told me that since it was shipped from the factory he'd ship out a bottle of cleaner separately, at no charge. What great customer service. So, I gotta take a day and install the windshield, the Rivco center stand that I also recently received, and the ignition switch bypass. I'll see if I can get the underside of the passenger footrests polished while I'm at it, and I should be good to go. Any input on how to do the windshield install would be appreciated. Thanks. -
Wow !!! You look miserable sitting there with the cast.....and the drink.....on the boat...... Well, at least it's a better grade of misery. Hope you're back on you feet soon; hate to see ya miss the best time of the year for riding. IMHO.

Well, let's see. 48 Willys CJ2A 69 Rambler American (I beat the pi$$ out of that car) 69 Mustang (Fastback) 73 Vega. (So slow it couldn't get out of it's own way) 73 Pontiac Catalina 65 Tempest (Put a 326 out of a 67 Lemans with a TH400 behind it) 68 Jeep Commando. (Buick V6 ran like a raped ape) 77 Jeep CJ5 VW Rail buggy 75 Cutlass. (Known as the Blue Streak) 76 Cutlass (No slouch either) 79 Lincoln MK4 77 Chevy K20 pickup 74 Chevy K5 Blazer Another 77 Chevy K20 pickup. (Sitting out in the woods, but I still have it) Corvair powered Rail buggy. 77 Camaro. (project that never got off the ground) 87 Honda CRX (48 mpg) 94 Sunbird (The only new car I've ever bought) 88 Ford Bronco II 94 Toyota 4 Runner 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee 94 Chrysler New Yorker 01 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 pickup (Still have that one) 2008 Ford Taurus (Still have that one too. 140k and drives like new) 01 Chevy Express 3500 (Beater work van) In the interest of full disclosure 74 GMC Motorhome. (Like the urban assault vehicle in the movie Stripes) 01 Damon Challenger Motorhome (Still have it) 69 Chevelle (project in garage) Reading this list makes me feel old. lol Hard to say which one I loved the most...probably the Willys CJ2A. That thing would go anywhere....as long as you didn't have to go over 50mph...I had a lotta fun in that thing. Heck, a 16 year old kid with an old Jeep, ...makes me smile just thinking about it. The most reliable by far would have to be the 08 Taurus. Great car...comfortable, and with 260 hp, it gets up and goes when you want it to.

F4 windshield performance
uncledj replied to orlean1's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Just ordered a clear 17 1/2 " for my 06 Black Cherry. Went back to the site to order a bottle of cleaner, and shipping for the $10 bottle of cleaner came up at $27....lol... With tax, total order cost of $39. I sent 'em an e-mail. I figure it must be a glitch of some sort. I'd like to get some mfr. recommended cleaner, but that shipping cost is a bit nuts. Can't wait for the new F4. Wow, that was a quick response. Within an hour of sending them an e-mail, I got this response : Yes this is in our system and we are working on it. There will be one included with your order at no charge. Don Frank Great customer service. Thanks Don -
Just for the heck of it, I took my 06 RSV up to 90-95 and kept it there for a few minutes, just to see how it felt, and I must say, it was as comfy and smooth as could be. I didn't notice any strange sounds, but mine doesn't have the clutch whine I've read so much about either. Still had more to go, but it seemed quite happy at 90.

She's a beauty !!! Welcome !!

Biker proves there still are good people in the world
uncledj replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Watering Hole
Yeah, the system may suck....loaded with lies, greed, injustice and hypocrisy, but, if you're a person of integrity and character, sometimes you have to be better than the system and put yourself at risk to help make the world a better place in spite of the system. Kudos to the biker.
