A few pics of the components in question will take most if not all of the guesswork out of it. As old as it is, it should be pretty simple figure out if I know what we're working with.

Need more info and detailed pics. Spark light or hot surface ignite.....pilot ignition or direct....what happens when it goes into an ignition sequence?... Need info before even an educated guess can be attempted. 27 yrs as an HVAC Tech. PS: If you look me up you'll find my phone #. Feel free to gimme a call if you think I can help.

How did you get Hooked - Picture of your first motorcycle?
uncledj replied to VanRiver's topic in Watering Hole
My first bike was a mini bike, then a ? 69 ? Honda Z 50. Started riding the street on a Honda XL350, but I rode that bike off road more than on. My first "Real" street bike was a 79 Honda 750 super sport, but the oldest pick I have is my second street bike, a 80 Honda 750 super sport. I loved that bike, and would have given up my car before I ever gave up that bike. This pic would have been taken about 1985 in Key Largo, FL, and the little tyke on the back is my niece. -
I'm very pleased to see folks able to do this, but open carry has never been my thing. It makes a lot of people uncomfortable, and that's not what I want to do. Like Cowpuc said, that weapon looks like it'd be easy to grab by a crook. If it's concealed, it may take an extra second to access, but that's where situational awareness comes in. Whether you're carrying or not, keep that Spidey sense frosty.

Got 'em. Very nice. Thanks.

Glad to hear that you're ok. Hope ya stay that way. When in doubt, get checked out. If there IS something going on, it can get ugly quick if you ignore it. Take care of yourself....we need ya around here.
-
Wow ! Glad you made it through as well as you did. These beasts aren't like dirt bikes....when they go down hard you don't want to get caught under them. Your description sounds like a blowout, but like someone said, the rear tire doesn't look flat. I'm sure all of us are eager to hear what caused this. At least it didn't happen in prime riding season....Gives you some time to mend. Take care my friend.

I've never heard ya badmouth the Venture, and, to the contrary, I've always felt that you took the jabs at your Harley very well. I for one say he's full of crap.

Her birthday's coming up in March, and when I axe what she wants, she gives the usual..."Nothing"....or "I don't know"..... So I figgered...what says Happy Birthday better than a set of Diamond R armrests for the back of my Second Gen. Hey.....they're not for me.....she's the one that'll get to use 'em. We were talking about the differences between the first and second gen bikes the other day, and she said she couldn't get her arms comfy on the second gen, but otherwise loves the bike. I'm hopin' she likes them. A bit pricey for what they are, but she's worth it.
-
I'd lent my first gen (87) to a friend, and I was on my second gen (06) and we got the chance to confirm what I already knew. It wasn't even close. Derned rev limiter on the second gen is a PITA. First gen is definitley faster, but the second gen is definitley more comfortable. I find that when I'm picking one for a ride, I usually go with the second gen.

Ain't doin' nuttin. LOL After typing the text, I click on "Standard Smiles", click on the happy fellow I wanna display, and that's what comes up. It's done that since the upgrade, although I typically delete the text and symbols before posting. Just like that.

It's been a few days. Next time I see something interesting, I'll try again. Thanks.

Just sayin: The last two times I tried to post an ad that may be of interest to someone, it wouldn't let me post it in the links to classifieds section. I got an error message saying that I'd exceeded the allowable # of tags allowed. Not sure what that even means. I guess I'll just have to quit tryin'. And what's up with the text that shows up when I add one of the smiles?

For what it's worth. I bought a 2001 Damon Challenger 34' class A a few years back and am quite pleased with it. Plane Jane, no slides, two rooftop a/c units, 5kw generator, Triton V10 with a Ford Workhorse chassis. I was looking for an intro RV, since I don't have the free time to travel as much as I'd like, and was thinking that I'd like to learn the tricks so that when I retire I can buy one to travel the country with. Still gonna keep the house, but I'd like to stretch my legs a bit. All that being said, this basic RV has treated me well. I'm not sure how well it'd tow a car though. With a trailer with my bike on it, I was down to 55mph on some killer hills in PA on a trip back from Ocean City. Without the trailer, that little V10 keeps up the speed well. Don't remember ever falling below 70 on any hills if I didn't want to. Rolling on flat ground, keeping it at 65 I can get as much as 10mpg. Going through hill country towning a trailer, it's been as low as 7mpg. I do disagree with the cliche' that the happiest days are when you buy / sell it. I'm glad I bought mine, ....just wish I got to use it more. (Typically 3k miles a year) I'm sure you'll enjoy yours. Just be ready for a bit of a learning curve. Good luck, and good travels.

Congratulations !!! You've worked hard an long to get here, so take the bull by the horns and do what ya gotta do to enjoy life.... My older brother retired late last September, and is in the final stages of getting his affairs in order to move back to the Florida Keys, where he lived in the late 70s and through the 80s. He's finding out that housing in Key Largo is pretty expensive, so he's planning on buying a place in the lower keys. He's going down next week to look at a couple of places and potentially make the deal. (He's actually been looking for over a year) He's THRILLED. I'm happy for him (and a little jealous), but will hate to have him move so far away. Probably won't get to see him much, but I'll have to try to make it down there every once in a while. Sigh.....

So How many of us are spending our Christmas Eve at work?
uncledj replied to Flyinfool's topic in Watering Hole
I've 3 days paid time off to use up, so I'm taking today, Friday and New years Eve off. I generally don't work holidays, nor do I get paid for them. And only one week vacation to boot, but I can't complain. I can take time off without pay whenever I want, (even on short notice) and make a decent buck. -
What's in your garage? How many motorcycles do you see?
uncledj replied to pbjman's topic in Watering Hole
They're in 2 sheds and one garage, and some of them are covered and pretty well buried. Pics would be a problem, but all the running bikes have had pics posted on this site at one time or another. -

You can theme it however you like, but I think most folks are just interested in a get together. Some food, music, a fire, and maybe a little hair of the dog is always nice. I'm planning on coming, but am neutral to what the particulars are. See ya there !

Uncle DJ is a nickname that a good friend gave me about 30 years ago that stuck. He claims the DJ stands for "Duking John" after a fist fight I was in, back when I was young and dumb. It kinda fits though, with my first two initials being JD, and I take good care of my friends......kinda like I was their uncle. It's also a shortened version of my Yahoo name, uncledjm14, which is my nickname, and favorite rifle.

Anybody want to post what they paid for their used bikes?

Been a few years. Still have the equipment in the attic. I had pretty good luck with RCBS. If you do a lot of shooting, reloading is a great hobby. Saves you a lot of money, and you learn a lot about ballistics. I hear lead's getting pretty expensive though. The only advice I'd offer is to avoid loading everything to the max all the time. It's harder on the gun, shortens the life of the brass, and if you're loading pistol rounds, running lead bullets (no jacket) faster than 1000fps will lead up the barrel. I enjoyed shooting low/mid power rounds in my 44 mag. Shooting max loads in that beast is downright uncomfortable. Good luck, and good shooting!
