  1. Yammer ! Glad to see that you're up and around enough to at least type. You were missed at MD. Hope you heal quickly my friend. Take care
  2. 152 miles roundtrip. That's why I was willing to take that BMW enduro bike. Hop, skip and a jump.
  3. Like others have said, a big heartfelt THANKS for all you do. I feel like I'm part of a family here.....Such great people.....Lotsa good Karma....and this site that you've created is what brought it all together. Sometimes good things are ready to just fall into place, it just takes the right person at the right time to take the initiative to make it happen. That person was / is you.
  4. Glad to hear ya made it home ok. I'm always amazed at the quality of people I meet at the Venture get togethers. Truly a great group of folks.
  5. Glad ya made it home OK. Thanks for the kickstand plate and the rumballs. I think a fella could get drunk off of those. lol. Good to meet ya, ...see ya next year.
  6. Had another great MD. Enjoyed seeing some old VR friends, and meeting some new ones. Made it home safe, although a bit wet. I was a bit nervous riding that BMW in the heavy wind / rain, (light bike), but it performed pretty well. I enjoyed the Rum Balls (whoa...those will wake you up), Apple Pie, Black Death and especially the company. It got a bit drunk out Friday nite, ....I didn't head for the tent until 2am. Waayy past my normal bedtime. Went and saw the Stones Saturday night. I gotta tell ya, for a bunch of old farts, they still put on a great show. I hope I can still jump around like that when I get to be their age. They're THE iconic rock group, and I'm bettin' this'll be their last tour, so I'm glad I got a chance to see 'em one last time. Been a full weekend. Thanks Don and Eileen for everything.
  7. Sorry to hear of the mishap. There's a lotta good Karma going your way from the folks at MD. Glad to hear that you're gonna be OK. Like others have said, I have a truck and a trailer if you need a way to get the bike home. I'd be glad to help. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
  8. It's looking like the R word, so I was thinking of coming up Friday nite with the motorhome and leaving Saturday afternoon to make the Stones concert. Wouldn't seem to make much sense to ride up Saturday morning in the rain, then back home Saturday afternoon, in the rain, then to the outdoor concert, in the rain. If I do the motorhome thing, I can stay Friday nite, and return Saturday well rested and dry.....not sure what to do here.
  9. You have my deepest sympathies. We love 'em like children.
  10. I don't speak French.
  11. Yup, that was me at the end of your drive around 4:30 having a WTF moment. For some reason I had it stuck in my head that it was Memorial Day Weekend. No matter, ....we enjoyed the ride, went back to Wellington and had dinner at Dimitris, then the wife dragged me through the antique shop. It was Heritage Days in Wellington, so there were a few folks roaming around....got to see the Lincoln Funeral Train....all in all a good day riding, weather was perfect, and it's a ride I wouldn't have otherwise taken: with all the projects I have going on right now. We'll do it all over again next Saturday, although we'll have to leave early as we have tickets to see the Stones in Columbus Saturday evening. We saw America play in Cleveland last nite....didn't get home until 2. Great show, and after all these years the lead singers voice sounds just like it did in the 70s. Pretty cool. What time are they putting the chow out???.......When do the dancin' girls start???...
  12. I think I found 'em. Googled the name and came up with an address.
  13. UHHH..... What's the address again? Getting ready to head up, but have no address for the GPS.
  14. At my first MD, (2010) Earl came over and checked out my First Gen, and taught me how to sync my carbs by explaining as he did it for me. I come to MD 'cause I know there's folks like Earl there. He's very knowledgeable, and helpful, and is a great supplier for Venture parts. Thanks Earl.
  15. My older brother retired last Fall. Bought a house in Big Pine Key, (In the FL Keys) and I'll be helping him move down in July. He's thrilled about the idea of moving back to the Keys. I was talking to him the other day and he said "This retirement thing is GREAT !!! Congrats on the retirement. Now get out there and make us proud. I'm happy for ya...and a bit jealous.
  16. 'Nuff said
  17. I hate it when that happens !!!
  18. I've a Rivco center stand on my 06 RSV. I'm guessing I'd have to remove it to use the lift adaptor....???
  19. Weird. I have a pond in the back of the house, maybe 50' x 100'. We threw a couple dozen goldfish from Walmart in the pond a few years ago, and now there's hundreds of them. We keep it aerated, and it's a pretty healthy pond that attracts ducks, geese, muskrat, and there's as many as 5 snapping turtles at a time. I stepped out of the house, heading off to work and heard a ruckus down at the pond. Sounded like cats fighting, but it didn't really sound like cats, so I take a few steps to view the pond, and there's maybe a half dozen raccoons swimming in the pond with one struggling to stay above water, and I'm guessing that's the one that was screaming. I'm trying to make sense of what's going on, but my first reaction was to grab a hard rake that was nearby and run down to the pond to pull this young adult coon out before he drowned, figuring I'd have to jump into the pond to grab him / her. The pond's only a couple of feet deep on that end. By the time I grabbed the rake and turned around it got quiet, and I saw the coons swimming away from the spot where the one was crying. I saw some mud kicked up from the bottom, (water was muddy in that spot). I wasn't sure if the coon that was in trouble was one of the ones swimming away or not, and since the ruckus was over I watched for a minute then gave up on it and went to work. Came home from work this evening, and went to throw some fish food in for the fish, (The snappers usually come up for the food as well)...and I noticed what looked like a half a rat or something floating in the pond. I walked around dispersing the food, noticing one of the snappers over where I saw the mysterious floating carion, anyhoo, I walked around the pond and when I got back to where I started the carion was gone. Makes me wonder.....did that coon I saw get taken down by the snapper??? ......and if so, why didn't the coon come floating back up....??? I did a quick google search and saw no mention of a snapper taking a coon, but I don't know what else to make of it. Like I said....Weird. Anyway, I thought it was pretty interesting, so I thought I'd post it. Thoughts???
  20. Try turning the handlebars to the extreme right before standing it up. That may help a bit.
  21. The wife says the arm rests are better on the first gen, but I've recently purchased a set of the Diamond R arm rests for her. I've not yet installed them, but I'll post when I do. My 06 has the pillow top seats, which are pretty cushy, and she does like that.
  22. First gen and second gen are apples and oranges. Both are great bikes, but IMHO the first gen is a great sport touring bike, better performance, and sportier riding position. The second gen is a better long haul ride, much more comfortable. I've a first gen that I rode for 5 years before adding a second gen to the stable. I didn't really feel comfortable on it first, with the forward controls, and it just seemed huge. Now that I've had the second gen for a couple of years, I'd have to say that all in all I prefer it. It took a while to get there, but it's a VERY comfortable bike. Stay with it a while and you'll come to love it.
  23. I also have a stock windshield off of my 06 RSV. It's in decent shape, but I noticed some minor spotting on it, only barely visible in bright sunlight....wasn't a problem, but I wanted a F4. You're welcome to it if you want it. Just pay shipping.
  24. I have a first gen and a second gen. Love 'em both. I've never felt the need to replace what I have with something new, just because it's new. I'm pretty pleased with what I've got.
