  1. getting a few miles on the Ultra thought I would point out the differences that stand out so far. speedo is less than 2 mph off at 75. bike is much quieter on the highway. elctronic throttle means cruise engages instantly and does not need to roll the grip. wind protection is better. low speed handling is way better high speed cornering is better. CD player that plays MP3 discs and much better stereo much better headlight at night all the lights on the tour pac make it a lot easier to see adjustable lowers with glove boxes in them as you can see so far I am very pleased with the new bike. fuel mileage so far as been the same as the venture.
  2. Thanks for all the good wishes. Don't know about the gas mileage yet I only have about 350 miles on it. Going to Chicago on business tomorrow and since the boss rides to wasn't to hard to talk him in to taking the bikes.
  3. Last Saturday I traded the Venture in on an 09 Harley Ultra with ABS. Got a deal I could not pass up. For those of you that love to bash Harley and think ABS is not needed with proper skills I say go ride an 09 and try out the ABS I think you will be quite surprised at how well the bike handles and just how fast it can be stopped.
  4. For what it's worth I have a sansa clip I keep in the saddle bag. I ran a cord to the back of the radio and a power cord from under the seat and just leave the mp3 player set on random play. With the power cord attached it will start playing anytime I turn the key on, do have to shut it off by hand thou. Makes a clean install and you don't have to mess with it.
  5. Rick, I have have seen what you have done and am impressed with the work and reserch you put in to it. However I don't want to modify an OEM brake system I am just not comfortable with the liability that potentiality could exist from doing this.
  6. it is not a problem of the brakes not being good quite the opposite when you have the bike fully loaded it very difficult to bring it to a quick stop with out locking a brake. I am not saying I can't do it just saying in a emergency situation I would rather be able to grab all the brake I can with out having to worry if I am applying too much pressure.
  7. I am thinking about looking for something with ABS to replace the Venture. I have never been very comfortable trying to bring that heavy bike to a quick stop when it is loaded with gear and a passenger. I am 6'6" and need some room so I don't think a goldwing or BMW would be an option any body have some experience with any of the other choices. From what I have seen so far it is looking like Harley may be the only real choice. Let me hear your thoughts.
  8. I have a class A CDL and have driven some but currently I am service manager at a large truck dealership.
  9. I found some thick faucet washers can be screwed on and off by hand and hold the seat snugly in place
  10. Wire nuts are not acceptable in an exposed environment. They can not be sealed from the weather and you will get corrosion.
  11. Change your spark plugs check the carb synch and run some seafoam thru the gas tank. I can run 75 on mine and still stay close to 40 mpg.
  12. had some of it on one of my old bikes it did make a small difference, not enough for what they charge thou.
  13. had one of those back in the day, it did the same thing found a loose connection on the main power fuse. Good luck
