  1. When I bought my 07 last spring I noticed the same thing with the antennas. I questioned and was told that the owner had used it to lead a poker run and the CB worked ok. I told them that if it was wrong it would burn up the CB so they said they would check it and sure enough they were wrong and it did damage the CB. By the time they finished they had to replace CB and main unit. Make sure they are right.
  2. I got mine here. Fellow venture rider and a great guy to deal with. $140 complete with stinger and ball. http://www.venturedad.com/

We've got about 30 gallons so far this year but the weather isn't as good as it could be. We've got around 344 trees tapped. Gather with Belguim horses. Having a free pancake breakfast this Saturday and give free tours of Sugershack. Stop by if you are in the area.
  4. Hang in there. My 07 had a problem with the radio/cb from the day I picked it up. At first the cb would not transmit. Then while waiting for a new cb I left on a trip and the second day out the radio quit. When I got back, my dealer informed me that they had sent the main radio unit instead of the cb and that was a remanufactered unit. He had ordered another cb so I waited. Since I was having trouble with the radio he replaced it with the reman. After replacing cb I still had problems so my dealer got upset with Yamaha and Clairion and told them he wanted everything new which he replaced and I have not had any problems since. It was a long drawn out process but alls well so hang in there.
  5. Do you think this enough or does he need something else?
  6. Ashamed to admit it some times but my wife and I and her parents use to go for two weeks at a time, camping out each night. We rode a Suzuki GT 750 (the old water buffalo). I built a rack on each side of the bike to carry a suitcase for each of us. On top of each I strapped a duffle bag for tent, sleeping bags, etc. On the rear rack I had a gas grill and cooking pans, etc. We were overloaded with just the two of us not counting all this gear, but believe it or not, we would average about 4500 miles each trip and never had a problem. Now we ride a '07 Venture, pull a trailer, and stay in motels and still don't have enough room.
  7. I agree. I have been all over the US with a loaded trailer with just a regular ball hitch and never had a problem, including several times through the dragon.
  8. I saw a unit that used blue tooth at centennial that was special for bike helmets but not sure if you could hook into regular head sets
  9. My wife and I have been traveling on bike for about 35 years. The best advice we can offer is good rain gear, don't over pack, and have fun. We have both camped and used motels, either way we only make reservations for first night. From there we play it by ear. We don't try to make a certain distance, etc., we just ride until we want to stop. We have had days of over 750 miles and some about 100. As far as packing, we only pack enough for about a week and then hit the laundry mat when needed. We have found it best to roll everything and put in ziplock bags. We take only a few tools because the best tool is the members list from this sight. No matter where you are their are friends to help. Have a great time and when you are up near South Bend, give a holler, I only live about 80 miles east of there. Keep it safe and have fun. George

    RV ?

Beer30 I have been reading with interest all that has been posted. My wife and I had much the same idea. We started looking at a Class C and was thinking about pulling a small trailer for the scoot. After looking at quite a few and talking to many owners, we decided on a used 32' Class A. We went with an older one so we could see if liked it without being locked in for several years. We bought a 7 x 16 enclosed trailer for the bike. Now 2 of my sons travel with us for vacation. We set up a base camp and come back to the MH each evening. I don't have to over load my bike or pull a trailer. I can also carry some of the extras like golf clubs, fishing tackle, etc. I have secure storage for bikes each night. Don't have to travel in bad weather like the tornado that we ran into last year. Couple of extra benefits that we had not expected. I have extra, secure winter storage, and when we lost our electicity a couple of weeks ago from the ice, we just slipped out to the MH and fired up the generator and furnance. Have fun George

    Base Camp

I have a 32' motorhome and a 16' trailer for carrying our bikes. My sons, my wife, and I are looking for a place we can set up a base camp somewhere near the north end of the Blue Ridge. Does anyone have any ideas?
  13. Forgot to mention it was 34 degrees on top with wind chill of 6.
  14. Was up two weeks ago. Paved 3/4 and hard packed gravel rest of way. Narrow two way, worst problem is traffic taking more than their share. Had a friend meet a road grader on gravel and hard to stop. Next to impossible to stop sliding backwards with just front brakes. If you go up make sure you use bike gearing and not your brakes. Have been up twiced and that is probably my last. Getting to old I guess.
  15. Don't use rain-x!! I ruined the windshield on my 85
