  1. You won't likely see much change in the RPM. You need to hook up the vacuum gauges and check the vacuum at idle, 900 rpm.
  2. The higher the quality, the longer the duration and appreciation.
  3. Nice to have those gauges. You can use them to adjust your needle valves as well. It's just takes a pair of glasses sometimes, well at least for me anyways. Set your idle at 900, then turn the needle in or out and find the spot that shows highest idle and then the lowest idle, set point is right in-between the high idle point and the low idle point. No need to blip the throttle or anything like that for this has nothing to do with linkage. Each carb will be set at different amount of turns seeing as one carb is never totally identical to another. Keep in mind that the circuit you are dealing with only has full use when the throttle is closed, as the throttle opens this circuit has less and less effect on the overall carb system.
  4. Going by the pictures, if you are looking for work, you just found it!
  5. Price is right if the info is honest, but be ready to do some work on it. Not all wrenches do an admirable job, some even call cleaning and polishing 'maintenance". So get some salt, a case of beer and some interested party(s) to assist. Now you already have the interested party, get the beer.
  6. Guess I said that wrong. left hand track for right hand turns as well as left hand turns. If you were to line up in the right hand track you would be sending the signal that you were turning right, if there was a right turn. My BAD!!
  7. https://www.motorcyclespareparts.eu/en/yamaha-parts/4xy142510000 Or you could just solder it back together.
  8. You will always find a difference, maybe only because you are being more sensitive to all the happenings. Now on the amount of oil, the more oil the less air in the forks, the less air the sooner it compresses to a higher pressure and the more sensitive the feel will be. Now will 1" of oil make enough of a difference that yu can feel it,,, don't know,,, just theory.
  9. Give us a picture of where you are so far maybe.
  10. Maybe @saddlebum will be familiar with that part, or @squidley, both have some smarts.
  11. The 83s are different than the 88s in that location. I had an 85 so not exactly sure how that works, but somebody else will I'm sure. Let's ask @squidley.
  12. Maybe, just to be sure,,,,,, according to @cowpuc you need to have the springs in the tubes. If you measured the oil without the springs in the tubes then when you put the springs in the oil would be much too high and you might even have a solid fork, and if you manage to compress it you could blow the seals.
  13. Doesn't look like there is much expansion room in the reservoir, you will need room for the fluid to expand, especially from being so close to the exhaust. If you don't give it room then you can expect brake drag as things warm. Just and observation. Looks handy though.!
  14. I would cut back on the pre-load not the oil. Less oil will not effect the dampening.
  15. Good eyes!!! How did you come up with that idea, I would have never thought.
  16. Wire set isn't under the foot where it belongs.
  17. Will you just look at the dirt in the back of your neck!!
  18. He is not trying, he did say!! Now if you would listen it should be loud and clear. He is much younger than you eh!
  19. Forgot to locktite the bolts or torque them.
  20. Most likely there is a butterfly staying open. One open butterfly can do it.
  21. I can't really tell if you did, but, when using anything, plastifix, fiberglass, abs powder, what ever,,,, it is super important to remove the 'glaze' on the surface of the original piece. If you don't, things won't stick for long.
  22. There is a seal that goes on the lower tube before you slide the inner tube in. There is also a seal that goes inside. The one inside seals the 2 tubes and keeps the oil and air in where they belong, the one on top and on the outside is more of a dust and dirt seal, is larger and thicker, and has only a small collar that sits inside the lower tube.
  23. Not to worry none, the best one snagged me over 50 yrs ago, and I dursant try for another. I did suggest a maid to make life easier for her, but at present that is still a no go, so those other wanta bees will just have to keep coming and going until the time is ripe.
  24. Is that why we have sooo much traffic on our street lately, now it all makes sense.
