Oil Level Sending unit issue
Marcarl replied to P-roy's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Really kind of weird. Wonder if something in the cpu is screwed up, or maybe the wires got turned around somehow. Another thing to check is that the ground wire is properly grounded and that something else isn't being grounded through the sending unit circuit. -
Maybe check the sync screw on your base carb, could be that your base carb is being held open by the sync screw rather than the idle speed screw. My guess is that not all 4 carbs were perfectly synced and you left it with: that's as good as I can get it. Just maybe?

That weren't no glitch, it was a ride!!!! On a motorcycle eh? need I say more?

Use and order of Installation

I got a sneaky feeling that the shoulder on the OEM washer doesn't fit into the Progressive Spring. -
Use and order of Installation

Yes, that piece of plastic will require quite a push, with the possibility of cross threading the stopper. You can cut the plastic done to a manageable size, I think most of us cut them in half and the only use the one. The washer is there for protection, from the sharp ends of a spring digging into a spacer, that's it's only real purpose -

The lower part stays as is. Make sure you have all three washer installed in order. The spring stays put. On the top end, the shouldered washer goes on top of the spring if it fits, other wise use the plain washer. The factory spacer can be used if that works for you or you can use the plastic spacer provided. What this does is preload the spring, so it really has no effect on the operation of the fork other than how much preload is there. Now, preload will result in stiffness, the more preload the stiffer the spring, resulting in a softer or harder ride. Some guys have no preload and some use the whole spacer, and some use something in the middle. It's important that both are the same. -
Don't know how I managed to miss out on all the fun, Sleepy2 just informed me of the fact that The Tooch came up with. Now I have to decide if there is any truth or semblance. I have to be careful here, don't want anybody feeling bad or anything. I'll give it some thought.

Couple of thoughts here. 1) It's a known fact that the rotors are a real bugger to get off the tapered crankshaft with a factory install. 2) There has to be threads inside the crankshaft for the bolt. 3) The bolt needs to be a hollow bolt for the wire thing to work and for oil transmission to the stator. 4) It's not surprising really that the rotor didn't fly off if it's as tight as some to get off. 5) If the factory installed the rotor and didn't use a bolt, how did they get it on soooo tight that it didn't come off. 6) as mentioned, if you put that thing back together the way it is, I won't be taking that bike anywhere, for if it decides it time for an exit, it could do a lot of damage and poor folks that are in shooting distance.

I've been told that I'm missing something, but I bet it ain't a cooler.

And here I had visions of a tractor trailer,,,, well at least a tandem, but then someone says: THE ICE-CREAM TRUCK IS HERE!!!!! and it's this little van all painted up real nice,,,, so I got me some, and you want to know something??? Really good ice-cream!!!!!, I'm guessing the size of truck has very little to do with the quality inside,,,,, good one Tom!!!

Just got home, all safe and somewhat sound. Got a bit screwed up, but I can blame that on the folks I had to deal with all weekend. Saddlebum managed to do his regular thing and mixed it up at the border, so from there he was on his own, good thing actually, for we seen some very dark clouds and thanks to him being elsewhere we didn't get rained on. Many thanks to the great crew of WNY for this rally, as usual there will be good memories. Just had a bit of difficulty finding a person by the name Junkas, but maybe next time. Glad to have had some rain as well, brings something new and exciting to the plan eh? Thursday dinner was a different occasion, but I'll let one of the DRIVERS expound on that. I might give credit on the right side where there should some on the left side. Either way, it was a wonderful ride getting there and back to the rally site again. Too bad not everybody got to enjoy the country side like some others. Really good to see you all again, and somehow I miss you guys and gals already.

Gonna have to put you back on camera duty, lousy job again today, rained out at the movies darn it!!! And the question about Durecell? do you really want an answer?

If I got it correctly, it's an indication that the shock needs a rebuild or replacement soon. Do a search, there is a thread on how to rebuild.

Will pass this around to all at the NY Rally tomorrow. Prayers on the ways, for blessings and thankfulness for those already given. -
Louyzy job you did Abdul, we got rained on out of Buffalo, but I must say it wasn't too bad didn't have to stop for rain gear and the sun came out to dry us off. Thanks for your efforts. Now work on tomorrow will ya!!!

Guess we heard nothing to this point, so that means they are controllable or Big Tom is incapacitated. Let's be hoping they didn't eat all the food or ice-cream.

Well you can be stoned if you like, but Marca and I will be rockin' , but then you never know.

Carb slides not moving
Marcarl replied to rrod1393's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If your slides were not moving or hard to move and the diaphragms were loose and the steel insert was part-way out, I would suggest that you have cracked slides. The crack are not that hard to miss, more difficult to see than you would think, but once cracked even any glue you could put in the crack to bond it back together would make it too large to properly slide in the bore. Only thing to do is to replace them. -
Sometimes it's not about burning up the asphalt
Marcarl replied to s.tyler58's topic in Watering Hole
Them the roads we love, taking it easy (easier than you) and just enjoying the country side. Sometimes the gravel would get too deep and we would find another road to travel on. Sometimes it would get a bit dusty, but never soooo dusty that Saddlebum wouldn't want to stick it out, seemingly he loves gravel as well. -
Wow!! your shadow must be getting older as well if it couldn't keep up with you, or maybe it was just getting fed up with ya and decided to stay put until you got back to your scoot.

I thought if I left this subject long enough someone would get the itchies and post it up. I figured it would be somebody who didn't know where he or she was going. As for us, the plan is to leave about 9:30 am Thursday, catch the train and ride quietly along until we need to stop. When we go to cross the border, hopefully we'll have a nice border guard for you just never know what Marca might come up with, and then head out to some town called Chaffee. Hopefully as well Marca won't forget her passport Actually, we plan to ride through the Penninsula, cross in Fort Erie, take 190 and then 90 to 219 and then the 319 through a place called Boston to Springville. In Springville we'll decide if that is far enough or if we complete the trip to Chaffee Lodge. If you like you can join us. Don't forget your rock!!
