  1. I'd say it goes for way more than what you could get one for elsewhere. Some two poor suckers are going to get into a bidding war.
  2. https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?139979-installing-flanders-and-1-5-quot-risers&highlight=flanders
  3. The enrichment valve and the idle circuit are two different items. Yes you're right, the vacuum measurement is for best performance and should be done with a fully warmed up engine, and if there would be a choke, then the choke would have to be fully open. But seeing as there is no choke on these machines, it only needs to be fully warm with the idle enrichment off so that it runs, as best it will, in proper running mode, or default if you will. This setup only checks the idle circuit, the enrichment valve is a whole different ball game.
  4. Plasti-fix does an awesome job on rebuilding such items. You can rebuild a tab, no problem. It maybe seem a bit expensive, but compared to other choices can be considered quite cheap.
  5. I'm kind of oldschool on this and mostly not all that concerned about things being dead on. They need to be close but I don't get myself all in a snit because, or just because. So to do a review, again in my humble opinion, the bike has a carb, and not a computer fuel injected system, so something needs to be adjusted to account for a cold engine, because we all know that a warm engine uses fuel much more effectively than a cold engine. So there is a possibility of a choke or in this case an enrichment circuit. It's there for a reason and the reason being that the engine is much easier to start and runs better on a cold start with a richer fuel mixture. When the engine gets hot, then whatever the carbs are set for will do a fine job, but the engine needs to be hot, and that doesn't happen in 2 minutes necessarily. Some others claim to be able to start their bikes just fine with no enrichment, and that to me says that the idle circuit is too rich. The system is designed with a cold start enrichment system so no harm in using it. When I took the riders training course, the instructions were: start your bike, put on your gear and only then is your bike ready to ride, it takes a couple of minutes to put on your gear I found out. Now on how I set the idle mixture: I hook a single vacuum gauge to all 4 intakes through manifold. I will first balance all the carbs (sync), then I will adjust the idle mixture to highest vacuum on each carb, then re-balance the carbs and then again adjust the idle vacuum for each carb. If an idle mixture screw doesn't have a response on the vacuum gauge, then the circuit is plugged and needs to be cleaned.
  6. I think you have covered most of the issues, and I would agree that grounding maybe a big part of the problem. Just want to point you to a ground that you may have overlooked. It's on\under the left side faring, under the radio. Outer and inner faring need to be removed to find it, also there is a ground strap on the fuel tank I think, just can't remember where. Also check the engine ground on right side of motor, near the front bottom, take it apart to clean it.
  7. I don't often jump in to disagree with anyone, but in this case I just might be accused of that. Cleaning pistons without taking them apart is asking for trouble down the road. There is a reason they got stuck and dirt is usually the culprit. If you would get them 'working' are you then sure the problem is solved? or just delayed a while. And if they do start 'working' did you get all the dirt out or is there some left that will cause complete failure next time. We're talking brakes here, not signal lights or radio. Brakes need to work in their best capacity at all times. My opinion: take them apart and don't scrimp on the repairs, if you don't you may not be around to tell us about the results.
  8. You should try feeding him spaghetti and see what happens.
  9. So it's waiting time for the next one, time to throw in a few more bucks,,, and then what???? if you win??? You'll have lots of money, all debts can be paid, you can buy what you want and go where you like when you like, you can take your friends out for supper, buy their plane tickets for vacation, secure cruise tickets for a party, buy a yacht, a car and a real MC, get new clothes and shoes.................... But then where will your present friends be??? Oh, we'll stick around for a while, but with the winner buying everything,(and why not, he has all the funds and then some), the friends will drift away because we don't cater much to all this charity, we liked it the way it was. We had to wait and work for things we wanted and then we treasured them, we have friends in the same boat, rowing the same way. We didn't have any rich friends, we don't live the same way as they do, don't talk the same talk or walk the same walk, so we have little in common. So iffin you win, be ready to spend most all of it by yourself, for your former friends will loose interest, and it will be difficult to row the new boat all by yourself because those who row those kind of boats are a different breed than you have been, and things won't match up very well. What a person needs most of all is LOVE, and with a loss of fellow inmates or varmits, it gets kind of hard to find love. When there is no love left, suicide is right around the corner.
  10. The week ain't over yet, and I learned something as well.
  11. If the rubber line shows effects of breaking down, it would be time to clean the whole system or the MC will show signs of contamination and refuse to accommodate the requested inputs from the rider. Other than that, I'm with the Fool on this one.
  12. Looks good, shows that practice makes perfect, which means that the first time is a hit and miss, or could be.
  13. Just hope that your rememberer is working and your forgetter stays broke, if not, you could always ask for assistance, some of us are real good at fixing things. Sometimes we even get things back together and on rare occasions they even work better than intended. We have all kinds of 'perts on staff, some have graduated and now are called ex-perts, that is short for experimental, which comes from the root word 'mental', which has to do with something from the brain, which in turn has been known, in some, to be in the upper part of the body, located close to the mouth out of which the brain can communicate the data that it has in store, or definite lack thereof.
  14. I have often said, it's not so much about the mistakes that we make, as much as, what we do about them, that counts. Thanks for the correction and not have us worried about having to have another vote on a name change.
  15. So what is this,,, you not a bird anymore,,,, now you just want to be a bir????, but hey, you're still free and for the Dutchman in me,,, that's good enough ok as well,,,,,, just don't become a bur!
  16. The moral of this story: Stay out of the hen house!!!
  17. Ya,,, I really couldn't include that one because I can only remember doing it once, and seeing as I like to get things right before I can claim it, I will have to have more practice at that most memorable task. Are you joining us again this year???
  18. I think it's only fair,, and I really mean that,,,,, well I think I do:::: when ever we go anywheres and there is a group of varmits along,,,, thens the question: OK who's going to lead this mess??,,, and invariably all fingers point in my direction,,, so I looks behind me to see who else might be there,,,, but NO they is pointing at me,,,,, so I end up leading and getting blamed for u-turns and getting lost and missing the pump station and getting caught in a traffic jamb and being late for lunch because the wrong turnoff was in the right place,,,,, soooooo seeing as I have to lead in that dept I might as well lead elsewhere,,,, not that I am necessarily any good at it for there are much better than me that do a fantastic job of lauding about this that and everything else, but just because it a hard job and somebody has to do it. IT'S NOT SO EASY BEING ME.............
  19. NOT funny!!!!!
  20. This is what I came up with, you might already have as well. https://www.justanswer.com/ford/afth7-battery-light-alternator-not-charging.html https://ca.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-t11828_ds553765 And it seems like there are some issues with electrics seizing and staying on line and so putting a drain on the battery, but then somehow shutting off and releasing the drain so the voltage goes back to normal. Do all the electrics work as they should, even windows and door lights? seats, heated seats? Check main fuse in fuse panel and battery fuse, remove to check and inspect.
  21. Maybe you got it upside down or facing the wrong way.
  22. My thoughts go to a ground strap, from the engine to the frame or the other way around, maybe even one to the body. Being it's a Ford, it could be rusted out.
  23. There is no real telling of how good a used piece is, and once you get it in stock, will it be any better. I would keep an eye out for a replacement but in the meantime I would proceed to see how nice a repair I could do on the present one. Either way, the one you have needs to come off, so once that is accomplished all you need to do is fix the pieces back together and then decide if the effort was worth it. I would not use fiberglass though, I would go with Plasti-fix. https://www.amazon.com/Urethane-Supply-PlastiFix-Kit-Clear/dp/B0007LTXVY https://www.aircraftspruce.com/search/search.php?s=plastifix&x=0&y=0 If it were me, and I did this, I would buy the larger kit from Aircraft Spruce. You'll find lots of things that will be helped with this stuff.
  24. So if I got the calculations right,,, if you paid $24 then all your costs would be at half price??? I need a job at the government!!!!
  25. We've had one since 2014, bought it brand new, waited for the three cylinder because we found too much vibration in the 2 cyl. Not that it was bad, but more than the 85 Venture so we decided to wait. Reason for change had mostly to do with Marca getting off and on, sure made it easier for her. I wouldn't trade it now for nothing, took a few miles to really get into it, 5-6000 or so, but now I wonder what took me so long. A total pleasure!!!! once I got the alignment done right. Got 50,000km on it now.
