  1. So where’s a good place to start diagnosing? This isn’t the first seafoam I’ve put in but for sure the strongest concentration. I do know all four are firing using an infrared on the exhaust. plugs? Carb sync? Carb clean other than the seafoam? good to know I should be expecting better performance.
  2. FYI they’re a hair cheaper on Amazon if eBay is charging you shipping and you have prime
  3. I’ve been thinking my gas mileage is poor but with lots going on bike wise and other I haven’t put too much thought into it, after-all riding is my hobby and putting food into its belly is part of the game. But I finally had some time to calculate and keep track and I’m only getting about 85 miles to the tank before the warning light flashes. After I filled up yesterday I went for a little ride and dumped 3/4 can of sea foam in the tank when I got home. On another note some of you may remember I just installed progressive springs this season and that has me much more comfortable riding the bike and pushing her harder (the old wet noodles made me uneasy especially when the forks would bottom out between shifts). What I noticed during my ride it would pull nice till about 5k then not necessarily bog down but just stop pulling and struggle to get past 6k and eventually just wouldn’t rev any higher. Maybe that’s normal…maybe not. thoughts on both issues or either appreciated.
  4. https://www.progressivesuspension.com/product/1465/fork-spring-kit looks right. Double check the PN on progressive website.
  5. Where did you get the gaskets @YoungWayne you say eBay, have a link? I’ve had three orders of OEM Japanese gaskets cancelled on me this past year all citing Covid related issues.
  6. I’ve seen the tiles advertised and can’t sell myself on the fact that I’ll have so much spillage sitting underneath that I’ll never clean up.
  7. Prayers up! Godspeed
  8. Enjoy! I’ve thought about pulling the trigger a few times, but every good deal I stumble upon turns out to be an automatic. My uncle has a ‘68 427 that was my car in high school.
  9. Hey @Mach VIII it’s going to be another few weeks before I get to play with it, but will report in with any experience. Please do the same if you decide to mess with yours sooner rather than later.
  10. I’m hovering right around the 190 195 range right now. 185-190 is my target weight. Been traveling a lot lately so eating out for weeks on end doesn’t help. I’ll swap out the cap for the shims and see what happens. Won’t report back for a few weeks though.
  11. @skydoc_17 You are absolutely correct Earl, I did not use the PVC spacers. I used the “cap” as recommended by Prariehammer (may he Rest In Peace) and others. So you are recommending I increase the preload? Maybe start with an additional 1/2” and dial back from there? here’s the thread from my install.
  12. So I finally got the ole 87 out into the canyons rather than just around town and to from work. I put progressive springs and oil in earlier this year and it was an amazing improvement around town, no more bottoming the forks and fear of washing out. Today I got a real ride in and noticed that between the 55-75 mph mark in a curve the front end seems light. Not like it’s going to slide out but not planted either. I can’t attest to how it felt before the spring change because I felt too uneasy to push it hard. Just wondering what would cause this and how to adjust it. Maybe more air in the ass end? Was running 4psi up front and 15 rear, one up no luggage other than tool bag and water jug.
  13. That’s the hole, it’s not as large as the area that is bored out. I want to say it’s the size of a high E guitar string. This thread may help you. It helped me a while back,
  14. @SpencerPJ its worth noting here to be Very careful removing the fill plug from the reservoir, the housing can break rather easily. You’ll notice there are nice flat spots on the reservoir neck to hold with a wrench while you remove or install the plug.
  15. Thanks all for the Info and tips. I had been noticing wet dirt lines on the forks since I put in the progressive springs and oil but didn’t know that wasn’t normal. I used a piece of two liter soda bottle to clean inside the seals, so far so good. We’ll see after a ride.
  16. I’ve got no experience with the head bearing as mentioned above but with that many suggestions I wouldn’t pass it by. My first thought from experience is wheel balancing. Low speed it won’t be noticeable but the faster they spin the worse things get.
  17. So I’ve been out of town for a few weeks on business, got home the other day and decided in the shitty weather it would be a good day to finally install my low profile lighting above where the garage door folds up. Moved the VR out of the way and noticed a damp spot under the front tire. Upon initial inspection I see it’s dripping from the clamp that holds the line to the anti dive at the fork, so it doesn’t appear to be a caliper issue. I haven’t pulled anything apart yet, just asking where I should start. I’ve gotta get the chrome bits off to get in there…really thinking about dumping the chrome. Also plan on an R6 upgrade with @skydoc_17 but just want to get her back on the road through the summer and fall. OR am I leaking fork fluid? I recently put progressive springs in. And what’s interesting is I can see the wet spot on the wheel but the fluid isn’t stripping the paint…so maybe it isn’t brake fluid?
  18. Oven cleaner. I did it to my 87 trunk with no damage to paint. Be warned it will mess up your metal trim so be careful of overspray, either mask it or wipe it clean immediately.
  19. Pretty cool. Good friend of mine rides an R1 and has always been a Yamaha guy, I was dumbfounded when he explained the logo to me. This was 20ish years ago
  20. Very nice! My main carry is my PK380 but my next in line is my Kimber Super Carry Ultra in .45. Also with rosewood grips, I totally understand the joy of the looks.
  21. Thanks for the heads up! I just put the 777 front and rear on July 2020. I’ll check my date code later in the week when I get back home. I think I remember them being a year or so old when they were delivered. @Squidley did you notice some ride difference that made you look at the tire when you got to work? Just wondering what prompted you to look at it at that point.
  22. https://www.venturerider.org/forum/topic/64407-dumb-brake-question/ in post 11 cowpuc has a video showing some piston cleaning.
  23. Thanx @videoarizona for the update. Glad all is well and he is enjoying life with his “other” family . Wish him all the best from here and I can’t Over exaggerate how much thanks are to be given. I know he knows how much he’s loved and appreciated, but don’t hesitate to tell him again. - Tom
  24. @YoungWayne as @Tysons87venture mentions the cap comes straight off, it doesn’t twist. I’ve lubricated mine several times and always starts to dry out and get stiff again. Lubricate the key hole and once you get it off hit the latch and gasket too. So turning the key will disengage the latch from the filler neck to pull off the cap. The latch faces port and there is a key way toward the bow. Mine needs two hands to go back on hence the struggle, I turn the key with one hand and align the key way with the other. It’s too stiff to just press in place. IMG_0216.MOV
  25. My 87 was converted to floorboards and heel toe shifter before I got it. It seems to be wiggly in every direction but works without fail. That said, I don’t if it should be that way, just my experience.
