  1. I'll give that a shot Carl. At least I'll be able to determine what's moving and what's not. The arm and shaft do rotate without shifting, and I think Kurt did say it did a 360. Kurt played with it, and did get it into gear and had to reverse the arm to get it to come out. I'll get into it tomorrow morning when this wind dies down. You're right about being tight in there, but I've gotten real good at r&r-ing the clutch slave, so that should help....
  2. Didn't know you wanted on the list Greg, but yes the MAC as Well as the Jardines have a mellow sound to them.
  3. 10-4 on M6 South George. Use the national group number posted by Jercoupe. I had an 88 1300 motor that I had a chance to tip on it's side and found an inner cavity that held all the interior shift linkage and the clutch slave. I was just hoping someone would know a 'trick' on getting to the back side of the shift rod without dropping all the exhaust and standing on my head to get to it. I'm getting too old for that. I guess it would be the same thing if someone wanted to pull the shifter rod out of the stator cover
  4. The 83/84 I just picked up has a problem shifting. The arm connected to the thru-stator cover shaft just wants to spin. I'm not sure what the problem is but suspect it may be the arm on the other end either coming off by loosing the circlip, or the spline being striped out. I'm never been in this area and my question is, How hard is it to get up in there to check things out? Can it be done without having to drop the exhaust and collector?? The motor is running great. Purrs. Anyone been there...done that???
  5. Just wanted to let everyone know that I picked up the braces this morning at the PO. Shipping will take just a tad longer than originally planed as I ordered smaller priority boxes. The boxes I had planed on using turned out to be way too big. This time smaller is better....
  6. Baker carries a lot of extra parts for their wings. I had to order one of those chrome balls for the V-Wings on the '91. Shipping was quick and the price was very fair.
  7. Sooo.... We only have 29 members regtistered from the east coast and great lakes area. Figuring a membership of 4000, and 500 of them west of the Rockies, what happened to the other 3,471 that are within riding distance....:stirthepot::stirthepot: I remember last year when we were looking at locations for the first annual ralley and everyone in the east coming up with excuses that Colorado was too far, and hold it on the east coast next year and they will come. WELL..!! Here it is. Where are they now??
  8. I gave that some thought, and I haven't got an answer. Maybe they're are 2??? Or there's a 47T in the VIN. I looked up my 'real' 83 and it has a 31M.
  9. A bit of an update. Things are starting to make sense. I took the red mystery bike over to gone14s' place this morning, and Kurt was going to mess with it. Kurt has a gold '84, and while there I took a look at his VIN decal. His bike had DA in the VIN number and is actually earlier than 'Old Red'. My theory is that when Yamaha shipped the first batch of '84's into the USA they were given a DA year designation instead of an EA (84) because they actually hit our shores in '83. They also offered Royales in red and gold for '84. I don't know where they are first VIN'd, but it seems to make sense.... Still nothing on the matching 1300 motor number???
  10. Hmmm... Never heard of that one before. Oh well, anyway my dns is officially flushed. Cleaned out my browser history, cookies, and stored pages. Things are definately getting better...
  11. The only way to tell if it is actually a 1300cc would be to take a look at the clutch, although even that isn't always 100%. I thought about the possibility of the dealer pulling a fast one and swapping out the covers and telling the guy they had installed a 1300. Except... according to the son the bike had developed a bad 2nd gear, and that was the reason they went with the '86 1300....
  12. Last Pic Post....
  13. pics continued
  14. OK here's a bunch of pics I took a bit ago.
  15. You're covered Tim. #9. I lied in the email....
  16. Yeah it was cheap. I can't pass up a deal....
  17. Once in a while Ebay will have a flury of starters up for auction. I've picked up a new NOS, and a low hr. mint for less than $50 bucks. The old starters can be rebuilt, but basically it's a new set of brushes, clean up the inside, and it's going again... I don't think there's actually a rebuild kit for one??
  18. Thought about that myself Margaret, but this speedo is in MPH, and I think everyone else is KPH???
  19. If you talked real hard and did a super sales job I might... read might.... trade one 1st for a two gen, but only if they kicked in a little green to sweeten the deal....
  20. Actually a new crated motor from yama mama doesn't have anything stamped on the serial number plate. The stamping looks factory, but ya never know... It may have been an NOS. I'm still pokin' around. OK I just went out and stood on my head to see the vin on the fork. DA000316... Matches the title and decal... and motor. I thought at first that they may have taken a bunch of stuff off an '84 and put it on a red '83 standard, but all the labels say Royale. Now I'm confoosed. Going to go take a nap....
  21. Actually they must have done more than that. This one has factory cruise on it like an '84. Missed that the first time around. I also haven't been able to get to the frame Vin yet to check to see if it matches the decal. The place that originally sold the bike to the PO used , was a parts salve shop, and after changing to a used bike retailer in the 80's, selling out to a new owner in early 2000, they finally went out of business last year.... They did a great job mounting my Avon for me the last time around... Anyway, They could have taken an '83 title, the side decal strut, lic. plate, put it on an '84 bike. The frame vin number stamped on the front fork tube will tell the tale... The PO kept very good maintence records, and he first bought it in 1991 with 13K on the odo, and to muddy the waters even further the bike had an '86 1300cc motor put in it 11K ago.. And..... the serial number of the motor matches the vin on the tag, and on the '83 title. It's an inigma... conundrum.....head scratcher... Never have enough JT. As long as I keep running into VR's cheap I'll keep buying them.
  22. It's been my understanding that all the '83 1200TDK Royale's came in Gold, and the standard 1200TD's came in Red, plus a Black Midnight. That's what it also says for the colors in the tech section. Well guess what kimosabe?? I just bought a 1983 1200TDK in RED.... The born on date shows 10/83, but the serial number is a low DA000316. From the date I thought it might be possible to have a late '83 model that had received '84 clothing. But the serial number says it's the 216th Royale built? I like to play detective and figure things out by looking at the clues, but this thing has me stumped??? It's definately rare...
  23. I feel for ya Don, but you know what they say?? If you like to play tennis....don't become a tennis pro....
  24. I fouind this while pokin' around Ebay. From time to time there's been some talk about a FI system on a Venture. I don't know, but perhaps someone would be interested???
  25. That's a lot of info to digest Jeremy. Lost me half way thru. But gotta ask. When you connected the co-ax to the base of the antenna did you take the shield (outer braided cover) and ground it to the frame. A lot of CBers will use a 3/8ths nut to connect the center to the base of the antenna using a plastic washer to isolate the antenna from the mount and then solder the shield and crimp it into a eye connector and attach it so that it makes contact directly with the mount. Also, I can't remember, but does the radio body need to be grounded also??? Keep getting VHF and CB stuff mixed up. Good luck....
