'86 Royale shorted battery
luvmy40 replied to Terry NB's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
if you replace the TDI, unless you can find a used one for stupid cheap, I'd highly recommend the Ignitech. Also, if you haven't done so already, relocate it to the top of the air box. It'll stay cooler, dryer and be much easier to access if need be. -
New RSV Rider - Saddle problems
luvmy40 replied to Hoytcanon's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I had a Diamond Custom on my '83 and my '86. Great seat! The factory pillow top works great for me on my RSV, but I don't think you'll be disapointed with the Diamond Custom. ETA: I am no where near you in stature. I'm 5'9" and 200 lb. -
I got some time in the saddle with my '86. First time in a couple years. I'd forgotten what a nice ride she is!

NEW MEMBER PARKEDMOTORCYCLESYNDROME

There are no points. The CDI uses a pick up coil to trigger the spark. -
If it does not have the CLASS system(compressor and controler) then the front suspension has a schrader fitting on steering head next to the ignition lock. DO NOT USE AN AIR COMPRESSOR TO ADJUST FRONT SUSPENSION!!!!! The rear suspension has a schrader fitting and a damping adjustment knob below the seat on the left side to the rear of the side cover.

Also, check with your local Yamaha Dealer. My local can usually get me any parts still available through Yamaha in a day or two.

I hear the entire procedure has been revamped, at enormous cost for the new Rocket 3 R and GT models The power is now infused at a quantum level.

I changed my driver's back rest out. I went from a Chinese eBay special to an American made eBay special. The Chinese rest was adjustable but could not be easily removed, and I could never dial in the adjustment. The Grasshopper, LTD back rest is not adjustable but it comes on and off easily and quickly. The default position works pretty darn well for me too.

I had planned on BlueTooth upgrade but I found just running a short aux audio cable works just fine to connect my Galaxy. Not quite as convenient but a lot cheaper and easier on the front end. This phone mount works perfectly and is solid as a rock. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B088FNVGWP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

2018 or 2020 Star Venture?
luvmy40 replied to Dbarbee's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
It was just posted up by another member that Yamaha has a complete fix in process for the 2018 Nav/GPS issue. Whether that will be extended to second owners may or may not depend on whether it is sold through a dealership. I don't know if this is being considered a recall or not. I can't speak to any other changes from 2018 to 2020. -
Where are you in OH? I'm always happy to help. I'm in Ravenna now.

It's about freaking time! How many appeals before it gets to the SCOTUS?

My son attended the MMI in Phoenix and took the Yamaha Factory Certification course. He finished either first or second in his class, not sure which. He was hired by a motor sports shop in Texas(multiple mfg.) through the placement program before graduating. They had him doing prep on bikes from all mfg. Then they had him servicing generators from the oil fields. All stuff he had never seen before. much less been trained on. That lasted a couple weeks before they told him he wasn't hitting the book time and they had to let him go. He went from there to another Texas shop a couple hundred miles away and it was the same story. He then found out the owners were brothers. When He came back to Ohio he could not find any work at any Yamaha dealerships or any of the multi company power sports shops. He's working on a tow boat on the Ohio river these days.

Sounds like a plan to me. I don't get to Utah very often, but I do have a good customer in BYU, so it's a possibility. Is your moniker a self deprecating comment on your cooking skills or do you own a Moto Guzzi?

Pull the electrical connector on the temp sending unit and clean it up. Betcha' there'sa good bit of corrosion there.
