  1. Well, no Medicare yet and probably won't due to MC coverage,,,,then why do they still cover car drivers??? Of course I won't go into the horsepital double billing insurance company for my helicopter flight in there or the landing.... And I didn't even get to look out the dang window!
  2. Hmmm, when I took out that 8-point buck 4 years ago,,,, Progressive wrote me a complete check for the bike and all my gear I had on.... Anthem Blue Cross/ Blue Shield paid up to $236k on the horsepital/recovery/aftercare,,, I only owed another 16k on my share.... STILL looking for a deer association to sue for him runnin' out in front of me!
  3. So we're to a different part and model in re-engineering these bikes??? Gotta LOVE this group:bighug:
  4. You might make it back home in one piece that way!
  5. Well said again to you my old friend Bob. Helping, participating, enjoying and waiting for the next one I can go to occurs,,,, plus on the GREATLY needed (at the time) side of being a grateful recipient of everybody's help from here 4 years ago..... I am now back to the point of being able to handle being back on here a lot more (just ask anybody), it's like this part of my life was missing and I'm just realizing it more often... It'll also help to get the brain re-connected to all this info a bit easier.... So you've now got the warning,,,,
  6. Merry Christmas back to ya'll down-under mate! I've got about 4 of you down there that I consider friends! Last night, being 40+ degreesF outside, I sat at the campfire listenin' to everything from "Frosty the Snowman" to Bruce Springsteens "Merry Christmas Baby" What a great evening for Dcember 24th!
  7. For us old enuff,,,,,it's equal to the 15 cents a gallon I remember from the early 60's.....
  8. Darn, and I thought readin' thru it I'd have another rotor comin' from ya! Get the carbs flowin' sum gas, install the re-done rotor and then sit back and listen to her run!
  9. Hmmm, had some deer whistles on my 08 back in 2011 this time of year....cain't remember what happened.....STILL don't....but I'm still here....
  10. Congrats to you both Mini! I'm enjoyin' the heck outta my 16 mo old granddaughter! I'm sure Jeff just enjoys the heck outta those two! Spoil 'em good for me too! Tell Jeff I said hey!
  11. The only way to inspect a starter clutch is to remove the rotor then the starter clutch from the rotor and visually inspect the inside of the clutch to see if there are any cracks around the bronze spring/sprag holder in there. At it's age, it's suspicious... Just because by hand it doesn't spin in the opposite direction, that doesn't include the starter and compression of the motor to create the stress that will be on the sprags when you turn it over by key. It DOES create that "rattling" noise you spoke of earlier when engaging the starter.....
  12. I think I remember that "I knew/someone had told me" that the first 6 months of the Venture in '83, they ran like squealiin' pigs and they had to slow 'em down a bit...bit softer valve springs, carb flow, etc... I DO remember (not the feeling, tho) my '84 was a runner, could lift the front tire whenever I wanted and scrape the pegs off in turns,,,,
  13. Just nope I can keep going. Maybe you're answering yourself!
  14. I just use my 2nd Gen when I want's to go deer huntin'.....
  15. Ah, you're a year older now so that 2nd Gen will be a little nicer to ya.....
  16. Glad to hear that you and Lonna are both in fine shape a couple days later. Way to go being able to handle that beast, I know it sure helped me...
  17. Try it at approximately the same rpm (I know, dang 2nd gens don't have all the good stuff 1st gens do...) as it is in 5th at 55-62, only in your lower gears. You'll have to use your ears to do this. What we want to replicate is it happening on the rpm speed, not wheel speed. Knocks a lot of stuff out of the way by seeing if it always does this to rpm speed. Definitely not the fuel pump, filter or dirty carbs. Most guys don't go to 5th gear until 60+ out on the open freeway, as these motors aren't built for lower rpm torque and pick-up in speed. I'll be glad to look at it sometime in the next couple of weeks, I'm right out at the Marion, Johnson, Shelby county corner from you.
  18. Pic #2 is the only one that the stator doesn't "look burnt". The darker images on the windings are indicative of too much "high amperage" or "shorting out" going on.....I agree with Flyinfool and that's why I had you talk to him about this.... Good luck in the repairs. Dano
  19. Thanks guys (AND GAWildKat!), been real busy this weekend, ending up today (ALSO our 29th Anniversary!) going out to see Chicago and Earth Wind and Fire tonite! Ah, after that little 6 month vacation a couple of years ago, the brain has had it's rest and it's time to have some fun!!
  20. Yessir, if you wanted to go that route it is a bit less expensive, but you'd have to find a 2nd gen that's not running anymore!
  21. Yes it is to all our VR guys/girls out there. Unfortunately the price is $335 with gaskets since Yamamama "needs" to make more outta these parts.....
  22. It's just the starter shaft going into the roller bushing inside the left cover.....but 30+yrs of being attached it may not want to ease out......you may HAVE to remove the 2 left hand covers... OR use a couple of decent size pry-drivers to jostle the starter right down at the base where it meets the case...

WHAT? This is coming from YOU Yammer??
  24. Being a Licensed Master Electrician Sole Proprietor, here are the parameters needed: #1-Codes are only established for THE BARE MINIMUM REQUIRED FOR SAFETY, NOT a good, correctly engineered and layed out installation. #2-Aluminum is as good a conductor for feeders only as copper is, just has a higher resistance to electrical flow than copper (10 ohms Cu- 12 ohms Al), must be used in total calculations. 3)- You can only load a feeder or circuit (residential) to 80% of the amperage rating of the circuit breaker. IE: 100 amp breaker is only allowed to carry 80 amps thru it, allows for extra induction of amperage for start-up of equipment and possible nuisance tripping of the breaker. 4)- Most all breakers out there today are Al/Cu compatible, but the device usage (plugs/switches) MUST be rated for Al connection if used on aluminum wiring. This is just a good start, as you can see the correct electrical installations needs a bit of investigation!
