Front Brakes Question
BlueSky replied to grubsie's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Gee, I was assuming the RSV front calipers were 4 piston calipers like the Gen I, MkIIs but nope. I just looked at them and they are 2 piston...... -
Congratulations on selling the house so quickly! And Best of Luck with your new life! If I moved, I would hire a mover at my age. No way I would try to move myself. It's plenty of work even when someone else boxes and moves everything. I sold my first home myself in one day because I let the buyers assume my VA mortgage so the closing costs were almost nothing back then. Interest rates were going up and I let them have a discount that equaled what would have been the realtors fee.

I don't use the pillow because of height deficiency. I have to use it to support my decrepid lower back! Same with my desk chair. I always have a small pillow pressing agianst my lower back.
-
Mine is a La-ZBoy and it's made for a taller guy than me, 5'10". It's comfortable but I still keep a small pillow behind my lower back for support.

rear brake caliper rebuild
BlueSky replied to kansa737's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yours may be rebuildable. I'd disassemble it and inspect it. And if the rotor isn't scoured or warped, it may be salvageable too. -
please help, what would you do?

I put up to a whole bottle of Gumout for high mileage engines with PEA in my 3 1/2 gallon tank on my Kawasaki several times when I let the bike sit too long. It hasn't hurt the carbs yet and I've had this bike for 10 years. I've also used substantial doses of this in my 07 Venture and 89 Venture with no ill effects. If you leave the bike idling for extended periods, it may be a good idea to but a floor fan in front of the radiator to help make sure it doesn't overheat even though the radiator has a fan. -

I just checked my electronic copy of the 84 to 85 manual and the compression readings are listed as: minimum 128 standard 142 maximum 156 so yep you are correct, they are different. Are those specs the same as what you have for an 83? I've never experienced stuck rings but I think it's when the rings stick to the piston and don't press against the cyl walls any more. Carbon buildup could cause it to be high. If the valves are adjusted properly, I think I would put some cleaner like Chevron Techron or Gumout with PEA in the gas and run the heck out of it and see what happens. I think there is special top end engine cleaners out there for that purpose too. -

The manual for the 86 to 93 says compression should be minimum 142 psi and max 199 with a standard of 171. The rings could be stuck in the low cylinders after sitting so long. Yeah, add some oil to the cylinders to see what happens. -
Wasn't Eagleton the guy who had a mental breakdown of some sort and underwent therapy and caught a lot of bad press about it? Didn't he drop off the ticket because of that?

I wasn't home but my neighbor tells me that Dorian wasn't that bad in Wilmington, NC. So we survived another one. The eye came very close. Several small tornadoes were spawned around the area but none hit us.

That's a good idea but the cams are the most concerning parts that needs lube before running an engine that's been sitting. -
Maybe the Coke company will buy it for sales promotion or is that who is selling it?

Such a terrible trajedy! Losing a child has to be the worst loss of all. We are not supposed to survive our children.

Just leave the fuel valve in the off position and spin it a bit on the starter would be my suggestion. Maybe for a few seconds several times to get oil to everything. And as far as balancing the carbs, if the throttle plates are perfectly adjusted to be the same on the bench, then if you "balance" them while running you are adjusting for any differences in the fuel metering at idle. That may be different as the engine revs up. Seems to me? -
Yeah, a high school buddy owns a beach house on the island of Ocracoke on the outer banks. I'm sure he's worried. I won't even be home in Wilmington, NC for the storm. I drove my old 02 F150 4x4 to Denver and picked up my wife who flew out last Friday and we are currently in Montana. We drove over the "Road to the Sun" in Glacier National Park today. She flys back next Sunday and I'm not sure when I'll be back home. I had been planning to do a little more touring before getting back. But, if our home is damaged I'll be going home as fast as possible. I've driven about 3k miles so far. Woulda been something on the Venture. By the way, on the trip out to Denver, I think I saw as many trikes on the road as two wheelers. Says something about the average age of motorcycle riders maybe. Seems mostly two wheelers in Wyoming and Montana though.

According to the Yamaha training video on line, you need to balance the carbs while adjusting the idle mixture because one can affect the other. If you haven't watched those 12 videos, it may be worth your time to do so. I would think that if the throttle plates were adjusted perfectly on the bench to be the same, the carb balancing would not be necessary but I ain't no expert on these bikes. -
The majority of hurricanes that strike the east coast come ashore where I live, Wilmington, NC. Looks like this one may do the same.

Try to look at the rear shock. They tend to leak after a while but with that low mileage, it's probably okay. If you get to ride it, you will probably hear the infamous clutch basket whine that doesn't hurt anything but does make some noise on almost all Gen 2 Ventures.

I had been planning to buy a half shell helmet for summer wear and I finally got around to it. I was looking on denniskirk.com because they will pay return shipping if it doesn't fit. I also was planning to get a wine colored helmet until I saw this white helmet with the flag on each side and I just had to have one. I had a Captain America helmet back in the 70's. It wasn't in stock so I googled and checked with about a dozen stores before I found one in stock. This is what I bought. http://www.accessoryinternational.com/product/afx-fx-70-beanie-half-helmet-white-flag.html

If one of those bikes was an 83 Venture, I would have been looking to see if I could recognize Cowpuc!

Not MC’s but it is the other guys I ride with.

So Tooch, does the Corvette belong to you? Are you planning to buy another motorcycle? I have a Hemi Dodge Magnum for my hot rod. Bought it new and still loving it. -
Those guys have just slightly better riding skills that I have!
