  1. Okay, I just called Bike Bandit and they said that the new clutch basket that I referenced before does not fit the RSV. So, sorry to mislead everyone. Now I do notice that the last four digits are somewhat reversed. https://www.bikebandit.com/oem-parts/detail/yamaha/4xy-16150-09-00/b1200808?m=145047 The RSV part number is not 26H-16150-00-10 but is 26H-16150-10-00. I was assuming they made a mistake on the part number but maybe not. The BB guy could not tell me what the new part number 4XY-16150-09-00 fit? I got the new part number 4XY-16150-09-00 from an old thread on this site, so beware.
  2. If you search the forum, you might find a discussion of what the "I" basket might mean. I don't know. I just know that you can buy the clutch basket using the old part number or the new part number so they must be different in some way. If you look up the clutch basket on partzilla you will find that the same part number is listed for all years, 1999 thru 2013. I called partzilla and talked to their "tech" guy. He said the new part number did not supersede the old part number. He also said that he would have to order either one from Japan if I wanted to buy one. It appears that Bike Bandit may have one in stock? The new one also costs more. I think I might buy the new part number and give it a try.
  3. This clutch basket is the new part number that "may" get rid of the whine. I don't know of anyone who has tried it.... https://www.bikebandit.com/oem-parts/detail/yamaha/4xy-16150-09-00/b1200808?affiliate_id=43737&click_id=2862838815&utm_content=43737&utm_term=2-235013&utm_source=eb&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=eb&clickId=2862838815
  4. That's a beautiful bike! I think most of the bikes with that engine have the loud clutch basket whine. I know my 07 RSV does. If you get the right basket it supposedly quietens down. I don't know. Thicker oil will quieten it a little but who knows if that is best for the engine. If you search the forums, you might find a part number for a new clutch basket that might help.
  5. if you google that part no., you can find some.
  6. Are you aware of all the potential issues with the 6.0 diesel? If not google and you can find lots of info. Nothing that can't be fixed and yours may have some of the fixes already.
  7. Congratulations! I suppose that turbo 4 has been tested pretty good in the Mustang for several years. I've been thinking about replacing my old trusty 2002 F150 Supercab FX4. Right now, the Nissan dealer in Charlotte has Frontiers with extended cab, 4.0L V6, and 4x4 for about $25k but I'm probably too stingy...
  8. I'm a daily reader of the site. My 07 RSV and 85 Kawa ZN700 are licensed and I ride them enough to keep the carbs washed. BlueSky Bill White
  9. Okay, for you alien conspiracy theorists, here's some real meat for you. The first video podcast is Joe Rogan talking with a retired military pilot who saw a UFO and it's the one that an infrared tracking video has been floating around about. Then there is this one where Joe Rogan talks with a scientist who worked in Area 51 who says he saw 9 alien spacecraft stored in Area 51. I haven't viewed this one yet. https://www.google.com/search?q=joe+rogan+experience+1315&oq=joe+rogan+experience+1315&aqs=chrome..69i57.13360j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
  10. How many riders keep service records? I don't. Probably very few unless the dealer does all the service. Then they may keep the receipts. I would be most worried about the servo assist brakes. If that works and there are no observable problems, I would buy it if I wanted it. Just flush the brake system as soon as you get it home. Videos on line show you how. And give it a good going over. A neighbor had one that he rode to work every day. He got 115k reliable miles out of it before selling and buying a new Kawa Concours.
  11. Now, if you want to be discouraged from buying an LT, watch this!
  12. For several years the BMW bikes had servo assisted ABS brakes and if you don't flush the brake fluid annually, the brake module fails and it's expensive to replace. But, I think there is a place in the USA now that rebuilds those for much less than BMW parts. Additionally, there are several videos on youtube showing how to remove the faulty unit and eliminate the ABS. I think the 2005 year had the servo assisted brakes. Something to check into.
  13. Buy what YOU like to ride. The BMWs are expensive to repair but they are beautiful bikes. There is an LT club with their president based in Chicago who makes some good videos on what to look out for and what needs to be improved.
  14. If you get serious about a V-strom 1000, join a forum and discuss. I was thinking about one and the forum I joined warned me off on a used one I was looking at. Seems the earlier ones, if I remember correctly, 2010 and older had some issues. But, I do like the sound of that 90 degree V-twin. The 90 degree vtwin has good primary balance and doesn't vibrate like most vtwins. Plus since it does have good primary balance, it can rev unlike most V-twins. 100,000 mile review of a 2005 V strom 1000
  15. I try not to complain about the heat because I really don't like cold weather. After spending over 3 1/2 years working in Homestead, FL, south of Miami, I think that is my preferred weather, about 2 weeks of winter. But, the crime rate is too high to move there permanently. That is when I started carrying.
  16. Is it possible to get a lower gear for the rear of the Hannigan kit? Seems to me that would be the best/cheapest fix if it exists. Or lower profile/diameter rear tires if it wouldn't drop the rear too low?
  17. I drove out to Montana's Glacier National Park from NC and crossed the mountains on the "Road to the Sun" on Labor day. I was expecting it to be a little cold but it was about 85 degrees! Then, 3 or 4 weeks later they have a snow storm! What a change in the weather! My wife who is still working full time flew to Denver, CO. I left early and picked her up and we drove up to Glacier National Park on the east side, crossed over and stayed in Whitefish a couple of days, then drove down to and through Yellowstone National Park. Man, I love my senior National Park pass! Going and coming we spent some time in Thermopolis, WY. My wife loves the pool there that is fed by mineral water from a hot spring. Dropped the wife off in Denver and drove home. Put 6,125 miles on my old trusty 2002 F150! Three years ago, we did almost the same thing when we went to Yellowstone. We love it out there!
  18. Or a Goldwing trike?
  19. As you know the V-strom is a totally diffferent bike from the sport tourers. But, I suspect it may be the best at two up traveling due to the more upright seating position. I owned a 2004 Concours, the old style, for a couple years and it was very top heavy/tippy. But, when I had it, I was going through what Freebird is going through now, I had been taking lisinipril bp med for several years and my balance was totally messed up. After changing meds, I got better and by the time I sold it, I was liking it much more. After breaking a bone in my foot with the concours I promised the wife I'd sell it, so I did.
  20. Hey, it happens to the best of us sometimes!
  21. Always turn the fuel off when the engine is off. I like Gumout for high mileage engines with PEA for carb cleanup. Add a whole bottle to a tank of fuel and let her rip.
  22. My smelly opinion is that the groove down the middle helps keep the tire from hydroplaning in the wet. Many motorcycle front tires have that groove down the middle.
  23. Probably it would just reduce traction especially in the rain.
  24. I admire their riding skill but both should go to jail.
  25. How were the front forks on the parts bike? I don't remember if you've replaced them but the MkIIs have bigger brakes.
