  1. In case any of you snow birds are tired of the cold, ice, and snow...(actually, it snowed here last week. A very rare event for us). It was 66 degrees of perfect weather out at Lake Moultrie today:sun1: South Carolina still has plenty of room for those who want to move down here, so you can ride year 'round. I was actually born in upstate NY way back in '58. A day like today helps remind me why my family moved from there to here in 1961. Come on down and ride a spell. I'll put out the coffee (or sweet iced tea) for ya. Rusty
  2. s w e e e t !!!
  3. If you're interested, the bid closes in a few hours. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150412686108&viewitem=
  4. I'm waiting on updates on how Amber is doing. Jantzen is expected home sometime next month. But...we never know. Thanks in advance for your concerns and especially your prayers.
  5. You can just call me Grandpa now! My son, Jantzen, who is in the Air Force and based in New Mexico, is currently serving in Afghanistan. His wife is also in the Air Force and still in New Mexico. They had a son (my first grandchild) yesterday.
  6. Really? Cool! Any idea on who sells that thing?
  7. Good answer, Skid! Now that was funny...like I need another bike. But, I'm always tempted. I probably oughta start thinning some of the rides outa my herd. But the're all just so darn cute and they give me a lotta love.
  8. Thanks guys. I appreciate the info. Everything on this bike is in fantastic condition and I plan to ride it on trips and let the Millenium rest a bit. My trips almost...(O.K. insert honesty here) always conjure up rain, so I just wanted to get the cover in case. And I do still have a selection of cassettes that still play well. I'd like to figure out a way to install a plug-in for my MP3 (like the MM) at some point. Any of y'all ever add an MP3 port to a 1st gen system?
  9. Beautiful stuff! Good thing to look at while I'm stuck at work on a snowy day. Thanks!
  10. Posted this in "Want to buy" classifieds. Probably shoulda posted it here for better response. Anyway, I'm looking for a 1st Gen plastic cassette raincover for my 1988VR. Any ideas where I can find one? There probably aren't any venders offering new ones, are there? Thanks for any help. Rusty
  11. Hey Gary. Sounds like a great plan. I'd like two of them. I can do Paypal. Please let me know. Thanks. Rusty Rusty
  12. Missed that one last year due to being trumped by my wife's schedule. She was quicker on the draw and got her event on the calendar first. So, as she was outa town, I was left sitting with our old pets. Doesn't look like I'll make it to Greenville this year either (work). Hope y'all have a blast.
  13. Hey Dan. I'm home. Just got up. Gotta figure out if my coffe intake/gas burnt ratio was in balance. I know I used up a lot of both.
  14. Made it home this morning about 7. No problems on the 1600 mile trip. Thanks to all of the members who posted all of the great info about the rockslide on I-40, various road construction, etc. Leaving Indiana, rode the bike about 75 miles. Put it into the trailer before dark. My first ride on a 1st gen. Impressive. Many thanks to Jerry, Bob, and Dan for creating time in their schedules to meet up and do lunch with us. Got some good 1st gen technical info from Dan too. Oh well, it's 3pm, I'm done napping, and I gotta go take the bike outa the trailer. Thanks for the posts and emails that helped me out. If anyone's ever near Charleston, SC, I'm willing to meet/help when and where I can. Rusty
  15. Had a daughter who graduated from Mars Hill College a few years back. Made many motorcycle trips up that way. Camped at Hot Springs one time, so I've been that way to Newport. Seemed like a very long way to Newport. This time, I'll be in a 3/4 ton 4wd Suburban pulling a 6x12 enclosed trailer. I guess that will take the "fun" value outa going that way. Sure seems a good bit shorter than going up 81 and then back down. I may just try 25 anyway. Leaving here about 11pm tonight. ADDED NOTE. OOOH! Just looked at the map. I guess it would be safer to go up to Johnson City and then back down. Staying on the interstate, especially traveling at night in this dreary weather, would probably be worth the extra miles. May even save time with the higher speeds. Thanks again. Rusty
  16. Thanks for the great info Mike! I guess I gotta find a way around it. Rusty (Beau-Kat)
  17. Hey y'all. I had my userid changed from my name, Rusty Metts, to Beau-Kat (my ebay name). When I was at the SC/GA M&E, it was so much easier for me to remember everyone's "handles" than actual names. So, since I was jealous, I asked Freebird to see if he could change mine without me having to start all over by re-registering as Beau-Kat. He was on it and got it updated just like that! Man, he's good! Rusty
  18. Congratulations, you just joined the best web site on the net........but a word of warning, IT IS ADDICTING, just ask anyone!!!!! Oh, I've been on here a couple or three years. Just did the GA/SC M&E and met some folks. Had a blast! And since I joined, I've asked my share of questions of you guys. Most answered to the tune of saving me some money by taking that forum info and doing things myself. Knowledge shared is real power. I agree, in my 40 years of riding and wrenching, this is the best forum! Thanks a million for the answers to my questions today. Can't wait to do the next M&E on the 88.
  19. Sent you a PM

  21. Thanks Dan! You are da Man! Got yer number down. That's the route I plan to take up there. I have GPS, but local eyes are always better for great info.
  22. Just bought an 88 VR and see some things I have questions about. A while back, I asked about rev limiters on first gens and seemed none had them like the 2nd gen do. Well, I was looking at the 1st gen (86-93) service manual and saw something electronic that said it's putpose was to limit engine revs. Can't remember what part it was and don't have that with me. So, do 88s have a rev limiter? Also, (looking at photos because I haven't picked the bike up yet) I see what looks like a lumbar adjustment cable for the passenger backrest. Is that what that cable does? Looks like it is managed from a lever on the right side near the passenger's grab rail. One more question from a photo: I see a black, kinda round, notched, 3 or 4 position knob with a red arrow over it on the left side in front of the fuel pump. But I can't read what is written on the knob. Is that a fuel tank reserve valve or something or do these bikes just have a low fuel warning light that tells you it's on reserve? Thanks for any info. I could find out Monday when I go get the bike, but I am just too curious (and bored at work) tonight. Rusty
  23. I would think that you got a good deal! But, I am a bit biased to the MMs.
  24. Thanks Mariner Fan and Sideoftheroad! I'll harvest your phone numbers and stick them in my cell. My cell number is in my profile. I can't do internet access to check this forum from my phone, so contact will be just via cell. Barring any travel troubles, I hope to get to the dealer in Westfield on Monday between 11am and 2pm. I'm 750 miles away and will leave here (here is just west of Charleston, SC) Sunday night about 11pm. I have a friend coming with me, so he and I can swap off driving, thus cutting out rest periods. Although I'm no stranger to quick long distance rides overnight, I don't know much about this particular bike or when/how recently it has been serviced. 750 miles is a little much for me to depend on it the first time I sit on it. I have a 3/4 ton suburban to pull my trailer. So this won't be considered a "green" trip. I would rather ride the RSV up there two up, but these days aren't like the old days. You get a lot of funny looks when folks see two manly men on one bike. Ha! Anyway, we hope to get up there with plenty of daylight for the start of the return trip. We will swap off riding the bike and driving the burb until dark. Then, we'll stick in the trailer. Any crazy hiway construction going on around Indy these days?
  25. You betcha.
