  2. Did well over 200klms today! Went to Paris Ontario for motorcycle swap meet(wasn't worth the trip) then went to London Ontario to pickup a DVD (American Graffiti) I've been trying to get, then Princess Auto for a few things. Hopefully weather holds out and can ride to Fort Erie tomorrow for another swap meet!

  4. I have two 89's in good condition and as long as I am able I will continue to keep them running. If I do end up making a change I most likley will go to an adventure bike of sorts. Harleys are way out of my budget and besides I am not the type to pamper a bike anyway. As long as it is sound mechanically I am happy, prferrring to ride than polish. I never cared for how the gold wing handles and the shifter location just does not work well for my foot. IMHO the bike is more suited to small people with small feet.
  5. Get ahold of your factory fuel pump and replace the points in it. Check vent line from top of tank all the way down to the check valve all the way down to the bottom of the bike for blockage.
  6. ok, started year with old fuel pump, checked it to see if it was running, it was functioning correctly. went for ride, shortly after starting ride started starving for fuel, came home , changed fuel pump, put new one in, ran for bout 3 minutes n started starving for fuel again. checked to see if fuel pump was running, it was not. plugged old fuel pump in and ran fine when i turned the key on . changed plug back to new one and it was dead. d___ china fuel pumps just aren't worth the metal they are made out of. is there a good fuel pump out there that isn't $200 dollars?
  7. I still have one bed available in the cabin. Joe has claimed one again this year.

  10. Adventure bikes seem all the rage right now. I don't see me buying another bike but in any case my 29" inseam legs are too short for those. As soon as I can get my Ventures spruced up, I'll probably be selling them. Probably. I do exercise and can still handle them. The Kawasaki being lighter I hope to ride a while longer. With its 500lbs and 74 hp it's fun to ride around town.
  11. I owned an 83 750 Virago for a while. It was a good bike with about 50 hp. I didn't like the vibration on the road. A PO had put loud pipes on it and they were tolerable around town but on the highway they grew tiresome. The Magna being a V4 is much smoother and more powerful. I think the 1100s had cam issues. I test rode an 1100 Magna way back and it is fast as heck.
  12. I think a virago if tastefully done would make a bad ass bobber, I don’t know much about performance though. Let us know how the center stand job goes, that would be handy as hell on an RSV!
  13. Hey that’s the big thing! Good on you for getting down and doing it! I had a part time guy as a painter when I was Director of Maintenance and he would like to get down and replace faucets etc. I told him to leave that to us, he doesn’t have to get down like that. Those old guys never listen! He still climbs trees and stuff to help out his neighbors and make a little side cash, tough ol boy!
  14. I sold the '83 and '86 VRs but kept the 2006 RSV. I have a gen 1 center stand given to me by another forum member. One of these days I'll dig up the post that steps through installing it on the RSV, but I travel a lot with my job, so time is limited for the hobbies. I'm also looking for a project candidate for a bobbed short hopper. I'd like a rigid, pre '84 Sportster, but the Honda Magnas look nice bobbed. Maybe a Yamaha Virago?
  15. Yup sadly traveling state side is just not in the cards at the moment. Once the dealin,s done there will be some catching up to do for sure.
  16. I do think that dash is pretty cocky on the Eluder though!
  17. Hello, good to hear from you! I haven't ridden much that last few years. I've had some medical issues and I'm 80 yrs old now. I really notice my age when I do stuff like I did today. I replaced the garbage disposal and it ain't much fun lying down under the sink any more. But I got er done. 🙃
  18. I think that everybody knows that Yamaha has exited the big cruiser/touring market. So where does that leave you? I know that many aren't riding as much as you used to. I also know that there are a lot of die hard Venture riders here. So the question isimple. What are you. now riding? With no new Ventures being made, will you. just retire from riding after your correct bike is doesn't and out. Will you. look for a nice used Venture or go to another brand,. What brand will you go to? Basically, what are your plans moving forward?" I'm still riding my 88 Royale! I always keep a second, newer bike to tool around town with but the Venture will always be my first love. My plan is to start collecting MKIIs and MKII parts and essentially keep riding these bikes until it's no longer possible. So far there hasn't been a bike that fits me AND performs as well as the first gens do. i wouldn't mind finding a mint 1985 1200 though. If you guys recall (you may not) I used to have a 99 that I totaled with a death wobble that I couldn't get ahold of and decided to go back to first gen. I like the full fairing and the upright seating position. All else fails I may get a second gen, or a later model Goldwing. My mom has a triked 2005 that used to be my dad's and that bike just doesn't fit me like the Venture. I would definitely need an aftermarket seat made for taller riders and probably some risers for the bars. I also hate how cramped I feel in the toes with the motor right there and I basically have to go "spreadeagle" to use the highway pegs. I've ridden the newest style Goldwings and that would probably be my ultimate stopping point after the Venture, but I'm sure they're an ABSOLUTE mess to work on!
  19. I'm late to this game, but to answer the questions: First of all I have no intent to replace my 07 Venture. After a few years of tweaking and 54,000 miles it is exactly how I want it. Anyway, if I had to replace it I would: look for another Venture, look for a Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager, look for a comparable Harley. My son has a Vulcan, it is a very nice bike. That would be my #1 choice. As a riding buddy of mine said after a recent trip to Sturgis, metric bikes are becoming few and far between. We've almost no option but to consider a Harley or Indian. Personally, I won't go to an Indian. I have nothing against the bike, everyone I know who has one loves them. I'm just afraid of the cancel culture discovering it, and forcing the company out of business if they don't change their ways. That leaves Harley. I live in Wi (and 70 miles West of Milwaukee), so needless to say, the HIGH majority of bikes on the road are Harley. That's my $.02 for what it's worth. Ride on!
  20. Been there, done that. You'll be fine.
  21. Congrats! Got 91,300 ish on my 88. I'll be crossing the 100k mark this year, god willing! Enjoy the next 100k
  22. Hey guys! The watering hole is looking a little dry. I thought I'd start a topic about how all the good people are on here? What's been new with everyone? Any new bikes or big rides planned? Anybody end up in jail lately? lol Nothing real exciting on my end, got the Venture back the other day with the rebuilt front forks and steering neck bearings. Bought myself my first Harley a couple months back. It's a 2012 Dyna Switchback with 26k miles on it. In typical Harley fashion I put 400 miles on it and it broke down, damn stator anyway.... It did give me the chance to tear into a Harley for the first time and replace it, quite the job on there, but mostly straightforward. Other than that I've been taking classes for Civil Engineering Technology, enjoying that and trying to get an internship now. Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well! Have a great night
  23. That is good news. I'm sure you can get some of our brothers here to come and ride your bike too LOL.
