  1. I received an email from Paul Meyers "Newman" asking if a "computer help" topic area would be useful. This was actually also suggested long ago. At the time, I kind of thought that there were enough computer site helps out there and never did anything. The truth is though, we do get quiet a few computer questions here. It's just natural that when you have a club that communicates via a website that computer questions will come up. Whether related to the way something works here or computers in general. We already had an area dedicated to "Tips for using the forum" so I've simply expanded that title to include computer help in general. Paul has offered to help with the questions posted there and I know that we have several other members here who are very good (some even do it for a living) that will jump in and help when needed. With such a great base of knowledge here and people who are willing to help, we may as well do what we can to help each other. So, that topic has been renamed "Computer help and tips for using our site" or something like that. Near the bottom of the main forum page. We get the questions anyway, usually in the Watering Hole, so why not start taking advantage of the area set aside for such things. I'm sure that we can all learn from it.
  2. I am having a nightmare and seem to can't wake up.... Do we have any plumbers that I can ask a few questions? I want to PM you so I don't tie up the site. thanks, Dale

  4. Must be nice to your own company..I thought I was on this site the most....Now I see You are on 99% of the time
  5. Anyone going to Daytona Bikeweek it might be kind of fun to set up a place to meet and get to know each other. Anyone interested please give a few suggestions. Preferably not at an event site but somewhere like the park off Nova Rd. and Rt. 92:)
  6. I don't even know where to start here. There have been a number of threads lately that went from fun to tense to downright confrontational within a few posts. Some should probably never had been started and others were fairly innocent. It seems that some folks are just sitting by watching for anything that they consider ever so slightly politically incorrect and just POUNCE as soon as they see it. That kind of attitude will destroy what we have built here if we allow it to. When I started this group, I set some very basic guidelines and so far, they have worked fairly well. Basically the guideline is that this is a PG rated site. No nudity, vulgarity, dirty jokes, etc. The vast majority here have respected that and I thank you all for it. It gets borderline once in a while but when it does, a short note is all it takes to get things back on track. Another thing we have done here is to try and keep discussions of a political nature, religious differences, etc. to a minimum. To some, there may seem to be a disparity in regards to religious talk. There are many posts here asking for prayer for a member and other such things. That is perfectly acceptable and I'll NEVER try to stop it. What is NOT encouraged are arguments about different religious beliefs or even about whether or not a member does or does not believe. It seems that political correctness has also crept more and more into the objections here. Are people just LOOKING for a reason to be offended? I've seen several fairly innocent jokes that one or two people have been offended by. Actually, I sometimes think that they aren't truly offended, just trying to get something started. We have to all work together folks. If you read something that is not completely politically correct, sometimes you just need to be adult enough to just move on. Let it go. We don't need to make a mountain out of every mole hill. The hyper-sensitivity to political correctness has to stop. None of these issues are major at this point. All sites go through these things as they grow. The more members you have, the more chance that there will be people of drastically different opinions about things. That is especially true when the group is made up of people from all over the nation and world. Political beliefs vary greatly. Differences include politics, gun control, nudity, religion....pretty much everything that touches our lives on a daily basis. Here is the bottom line folks. I love what we have built here. I count many of you among my best friends. You are MUCH more to me than an online community. I would not want to lose a single member due to somebody being offended about a post and/or what types of posts are acceptable here. At the same time, having a LOT of members has never been the primary goal of VentureRiders. I would honestly rather have 500 members who truly are happy to be here than to have 5000 that are fighting and bickering all the time. Being the largest Venture club around is just not important. The friendships are what is important. I will continue, with the help of our very few moderators, to run this site the best way that I know how. I started this club with a general idea on how I thought it should be run. This club exists because of my disagreement with how some other sites were run. I have always tried to get a feel for, ask for, understand your thoughts and opinions. I have always tried to put the desires of the MAJORITY of our members above all else in how I run things here. I will NEVER please everybody. So, I hope that each and every one of you will continue to find something about VentureRiders that you like and will stick around. I hope that we can all be adult enough to ignore those things that we don't like. Move on and just realize that the site is run to please as many as possible and you are NOT going to agree with everything and everybody. If you can't do that though, consider doing what I did when I was unhappy with the clubs already available. Start a new one. Do exactly the same thing I did. Register a domain name, purchase hosting, build a site and run it the way that YOU think it should be run. You decide what to allow and what not to allow. Maybe you have that perfect knack of knowing exactly how to please everybody all the time. You are even welcome to post the link to your new site here. I'm not going to compete with you. This site is free. If somebody leaves, it bothers me because I feel that I have lost a friend or a potential friend but NOT because somebody leaving here costs me any membership dues or may result in us not having more members than another club. The fact is, if you are REALLY unhappy here then it's not worth it. Find some place where you can be happy and if you can't find such a place, build a new one. Maybe there are MANY others who feel the same way you do. Heck, if it turns out that you are truly that much better at this than I am I may even shut this site down and join yours. (not likely though, I'm pretty happy with what we have) I made a mistake before starting this club. I spent too much time fighting with a handful of folks in an attempt to change a place. In doing so, I made myself unhappy and caused others to be unhappy. We are what we are and will try to please as many as possible. If you can be happy here then I am really glad. If you can't though, I'm truly sorry and hope that you will find a place where you can be.
  7. Just before New Years I had sat myself down to write a note to the members of the VentureRiders, mainly to do two things 1) explain myself for some of my posts over the last couple of years, and 2) apologize for a couple of those posts. But after writing the note and reading it a couple of times I decided that it probably wasn't worth posting...why, I'm not sure. Moving forward to today I saw the following in the "Long Winter" thread and after reading these words rethought my decision to write a note or not. Red1 from just down the road from me here in Wisconsin said: "Too often, we allow ourselves to be polarized by our differences and fail to see the bigger picture. We gather here because of what we have in common - a joy of riding a great bike, a need for a little information and a desire to associate with people that share our passion. Perhaps if we kept the focus on that and had a little more tolerance for those that don't think exactly like we do, or express themselves precisely right - posts like this would no longer be necessary." Even though Don would probably tell you I'm not one of the people he was initially talking about, I'm pretty sure there are some of you who definitely believe I am one of those people. Maybe I am, maybe I'm not, but I would like to explain myself a little bit. As Don pointed out in another post recently, yes, I am a director on the Venturer site. I'm biased regarding sites? Yes, a true statement. But this post isn't about the sites, it's about the people who frequent all the Venture related sites. Do I believe the people that frequent any of the sites are any different? No! And there's the basis for much of the grumpiness I sometimes come across with when I infrequently post here on the VentureRider site. As I said I'm not talking about the sites or their merits or shortcomings, I'm talking about the people. It's always been about the ride and the people for me. That's why I come to this site as well...if it was about the site alone, I'd never be here. What it comes down to is when I read posts here, or elsewhere, that include the words "better people here" it angers me. The riders, the people, we're all the same. Some of personalities or traits of some people on the other sites you may not care for, but the same can be said for some of the people here. Earlier this year I posted a rather extensive list of events for the upper Midwest, many of those were Venturers sponsored events but not all. At first there were quite a few thank yous for posting, but then one member here got angry about the posts and said I was doing a recruiting campaign for the Venturers. I wasn't, I thought I was simply providing information for riders. Don did come to my rescue and let everyone know I was simply posting events, but it didn't seem to appease that particular member. Since then, while I have posted a couple of things, I haven't specifically posted anything Venturer related out of courtesy for this site and the member angered by the event posts. Bottom-line. I ride a Venture (and an FJR) and I hope that's enough for us to share some common ground. I'd like to be able to walk up to another rider with a Venture, talk about our rides, and maybe start a friendship. I hope that because I call another Venture site my first internet home doesn't keep that from happening. Now for the apologies. Don...no detail for the masses, but I am sorry I PO'd you in early in 2007. We used to share some common ground (other than the bike we ride)...I know that's no longer true, but I would hope the bumps in the road are behind us. To the other VentureRiders I've managed to anger at one time or another, I apologize. I hope our paths cross someday and we can get to know each other....my home north of Green Bay (and more importantly my garage and tools) are always open to anyone riding a Venture (or FJR, or Concours, or Gold Wing, or....). Here's to a great 2008. Curt p.s. I would like to say thank you to the creators of the VentureRider calendar for using some of my pictures. Other than me providing pictures of Ventures, you didn't ask nor did you care where they came from...they were pictures of Ventures and the people who ride them. A bigger thank you for making myself and my wife Cathy (crossing Big Mac) the opening picture for the 24-month calendar.
  8. How come there is a secret area I need a password to get into on our site.
  9. This is a cool website. So if your on the fence on who to vote or support for this site maybe just your answer. All you do is answer 11 questions and then see the Presidential candidate that most closely agrees with your opinion on the questions asked. It only takes a minute or two. Gave me a different perspective.......Ron http://www.wqad.com/Global/link.asp?L=259460
  10. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of the members of this website that I know Personally and all that I have yet to meet. With the comercialization of the season lets not forget what this holiday is all about. I am looking forward to the comming year and all the possibilities that it holds for all of us. I would like for each and every one of you to say a special prayer for the members we have lost as well as all the non members that have been taken away from what we love to do. Lets not forget the Families left behind after all they are the ones that are hurting the most from the loss of a loved one. I think about all of the fallen members of this site every day and pray that their families have the stength to carry on. In the last 3 years we have had some of our VR Family members taken from us and some that have had near misses. All that I can figure from the near misses is that they are a wake up call for those members for one reason or another. But I believe we can all learn from each others lessons. Lets all stay safe and have a Healthy and Happy 2008 Please. Lets not forget the members of this site that need our prayers for strength to battle health issues. And the members serving overseas. Ride Safe and have a Great Holiday Season with your families. Jeff
  11. Although Yamaha hasn't made any announcements about the cure for the whine in the Venture Engines after looking around on the Star site I find they do indeed have a fix for the whine...... http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/apparel/apscitemdetail/2/102/all/all/3856/detail.aspx Cheap too. Jerry
  12. Black Owl

  13. I've been a member of this site for about 8 months now, long enough to say what a refreshing change this site is compared to another site I use for my other motorcycle. Without specifically naming the other site, I will just say this, it is a sportbike "forum" site. I use that sight, much like I use this one, to research and find answers to questions about maintenance for my bike, and preferrences for "add-ons". The other site I have stopped being an "active member", i.e. I don't respond to any forums, I don't add any input or advise. Reason being, there are several persons on that site that feel the need to insult, ridicule, and basically be just a royal pain in the arse. There are several forums on that site that had to be locked by the site administrator because of foul language, threats, racial remarks, etc. VentureRider.org has been absolutely fantastic. I have posted several questions and/or replies on here, and not once has anybody insulted me, or felt the need to enter into an online argument. There are even a couple of members within a four hour drive of me (especially Eck) who have offered their expertise and assistance. This site is a welcome breath of fresh air. Anyways, I had to get that off my chest, so now I'm off my soap-box...thanks to all of you for a truly exceptional website. Peace out.
  14. Last summer my wife and I toured Yellowstone and Glacier National parks with several other couples. I have finally got the slide show created from the trip. It is a compilation of images from everyone's camera. If you care to see it you can download the exectutable file from my web site. It is quite large, 377 mb so you'll need a broadband connection. The file is has been zipped so it will have to be unzipped to run. Here's the link: www.traynorphoto.com/glacier.zip Enjoy... Dennis
  15. We have a new member that lives in AZ at the moment. He's here till January from Taiwan and is interested in getting some riding in out that way. So if any of our folks out there can meet up with him it would be great. His name is Tony Lin I didn't see if he had a phone number listed but I'm sure if he's interested in riding he'll be back on the site so you could just pm him. He also wants to know about joining a yamaha motorcycle club even though he'll only be here for a short time. I don't know how that works so if someone could help him with that as well that would be great. Margaret
  16. With the info on this site you all helped me make a decision to buy the Blu/Blk 2007 RSV. I had to go to 3 dealers to find one. I bought it a week ago Saturday and road it home in the rain last Saturday. Just 10 miles on her now but come spring many more will add up. I traded in two Vulcan 1500 Classic Fi's and a SilverWing. But kept my Drifter. Since my wife can not ride anymore it did not make sense having four bikes anymore, two were hers. And I wanted to take advantage of the dealer having a year end low price. I loved the color. I will have many questions as time passes and also pictures once the weather warms up here in northern IL. I have question? I have noticed other Venture sites are they just a well informed and friendly? And if so are any worth joining also? Thanks Again Classicride From Zion, IL
  17. Don't know if anybody out there has used this web site but you can hook up on some pretty good rides. www.motorcycleroads.us/index.html
  18. I want to take a few minutes here and talk with everyone. This isn't something that needs an acknowledgement, but is something that needs to be said. The Moderators and myself pride ourselves on not having to do much "Censoring" of posts. For the most part all of you members here are VERY good at policing the site and yourselves. I know I speak for all of us when I tell you that we do appreciate that. There are times when some posts go south, for whatever reason. I'm asking from everyone of our members that we remember why we are here at this website. This is a motorcycle forum, and we do a good job of keeping it PG rated and not getting political. Please believe me when I say that I too have a hard time not commenting on some subjects. We all have our beliefs, and we are truly an international club, with many different beliefs and values. Now some of us are in the PMS (Parked Motorcyle Syndrome) portion of our ride season. We will be spending a lot more time on the site as there really isn't a lot that we do in the winter. There are going to be disagreements, we have MANY colorful personalities here, but I ask that we all keep it civil and not attack folks for their beliefs. If you come onto the site, and your angry or upset from a hard day at work. I ask that you dont post to a thread that may upset you. I do this many times myself as if I believe that I'm writing something that will lash out or further escalate a thread, I simply leave the site and come back when I'm calmed down...that sometimes takes a day for me This is an exceptional place, there isn't another forum quite like what we have here. I truly enjoy us being a family here, and appreciate the diversity that we have. So please, the PMS season is early and we certainly dont want folks not coming here because it's uncomfortable. If you need to vent on a subject, there are hundreds of other websites to go to that would be more suitable for it. From myself and all the moderators, thank you for being here. Our job is easy compared to some of the sites I have gone to....let us all be safe this PMS season
  19. hi all i have been trying to make reseravations at bingermans camping resort at kitchener, ontario for a couple of days now. the 800-565-4631 and the 519-744-1002 #'s are at the caming site and they are closed for the season. the 519-744-1555 is a working phone # but at the main park office. also the online reservation site has not been working. called the 519-744-1555 this morning and explaned the problem. was transfered over to a mr. lou who said the last person/employee left that part of the resort yesterday. had told him about some problems up there. mr. lou said he will call me back later today / tomorrow and will take care of my reservation and fix the problems. if you are having any problems give them a day or so to fix things. but the 519-744-1555 is a good contact #. thanks to reiny rooster and any others up there taking on this big project. what has happen is beyond their control. i am lookig forward to make this big and far ride. my 13 y.o is really excited about this trip i've taken her to the big bend park area here in texas, but this ride will really putting her to the iron butt test. peace to all don
  20. http://www.corbin.com/yamaha/ylnrtrunk.shtml The NEW Venture maybe??? Found this out on Corbin's web site. Add a radio and cruise and I'd be trading!
  21. A FRIEND IS LOOKING AT THESE AND WAS WONDERING IF YOU HAVE TO JET WITH THEM AND HOW LOUD ARE THEY? I TOLD HIM IF ANYONE KNEW THEY WOULD BE ON THIS SITE.
  22. Some one on another forum brought it to my attention that the old owners manual, the one we have here in PDF, and the new manual the PDF on the My Star section of the Yamaha web site have different oil change intervals. The old one says every 8k, the new on says every 4k!!! But if you go to the maintenance interval PDF on the My Star site, it still says 8k.. OK, what is that real answer?
  23. I was reading an interview with Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas in Imprimis, a publication by Hilsdale College in Michigan. It reminded me of the moderators on this site and some recent threads that got off topic. I came away with a greater appreciation for the rules about discussing politics and other contentious subjects. Here is a quote from the interview with Justice Thomas as published in the October 2007 issue of Imprimis, when he was asked why he won't discuss ideas with brutes: Once again my hat is off to the moderators of this site. P.S. Calumnies = lies. I had to look that up.
  24. I just found this web site. Lots of information the basic operation of carburators, if anybody is interested. I was looking for info on setting float levels, when I just found the site. http://hondanighthawks.net/carbhelp.htm?
  25. :confused24:I tried to go into the thread "Ride Ideas" and was asked for a password to enter. I guessed that the password that I use to log onto the site was the same but I must be mistaken. Are we now starting private threads with invitation only?
