  1. Well i started off good, finnaly putting new valve cover gaskets on(lots of fun there),cleaning all the grease and grime from the old leaky gaskets off, and doing a fresh oil and filter change all ready for the summer. Two days later on my way home from work today bikes running great doing about 70 down the freeway in the end of rush hour traffic and i get a loud mettalic crunch and what sounds like metals bouncing down the road behind me. the rear tire starts to lock up, pull the clutch in and it coasts smooth to the shoulder in about the busiest spot on the freeway of course. out it in neutral bike idles perfect look underneath and see the last of my oil pouring onto the blacktop. got a trailer and she sits in the garge now. hopefully next week i can start looking into it, i'll be gone all weekend.my only thoughts right now are it must be in the transmission, which means pulling the motor, more fun. hopefully no crackes in the housing but a short supply of parts money with a kid on the way means i doubt i'll get it back on the road anytime soon.

  3. Well, gals, give me your input on this? Do you agree? I had a good laugh, and feel like its a thumbs up....sherry 9 WORDS WOMEN USE (1) Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up. (2) Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house. (3) Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine. (4) Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It! (5) Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of nothing.) (6) That's Okay: This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man.. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake. (7) Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or Faint. Just say you're welcome. (I want to add in a clause here - This is true, unless she says 'Thanks a lot' - that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say 'you're welcome' ... that will bring on a 'whatever'). (8) Whatever: Is a women's way of saying "whatever" (I deleted the cuss word ) (9) Don't worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking 'What's wrong?' For the woman's response refer to # 3.
  4. Well, My New trailer should be here between 10 - Noon today:thumbsup: Just go thru installing my hitch. Gonna start on the lights shortly, but got to make a run for a couple things. The trailer needs some assembly 60 to 90 minutes, which means it will take me to 8 tonight:rotf: I'll post pictures later.
  5. I've heard that the wheels on the Harbor Freight motorcycle dolly are too small and need replaced... since they bottom mount, bigger wheels means higher unit... but have some of you come across a better wheel to mount (PN?)? http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/photos/95800-95899/95896.gif http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=95896
  6. I wonder how many people pay attention to where the item they buy comes from. I dare anyone to go to Wally world and pick up 10 items at random and get over 10% made in the usa. That means 90% made out of states. Many times I've put something back on the shelf and refused to buy it because it's made in china. What say the other smart people here?? www.ridingformissions.com

  8. I got a new tire. when i check it it was 3 years old ( Check your tires when you buy. on the side DOT # if it got 415 on it that means 41st week of 2005 3 years old.
  9. To all our non-USA members (maybe non-North American members), PLEASE learn our driving rules before you come here to tour on your bikes. Solid yellow line means do not pass. Dashed yellow line (on 2 lane road) means you can pass if there is NO oncoming traffic. While on hwy 20 today in Middlebury, IN, we saw 3 bikes with European plates. Five people total. They had been parked in town looking at a map. We watched as these 3 bikes weaved in and out, passing cars and trucks, in both passing and no passing zones. Cars, trucks and even a motorhome was off the shoulder, almost in the ditch to avoid hitting these bikes. I'm just glad I did not have to witness a crash.
  10. As most of you know, the VentureRider site was down for several hours last night. There was no problem with our actual site but with our server host. I contacted them and was informed that the server had been hit with a "denial of service attack". You can search google to find out exactly what that means but basically it means that somebody was sending a LOT of bogus validation requests and simply overwhelmed the server so that it could not respond. We are on a shared host so that does not mean that we were specifically attacked, just the server that we are on. That being said, this morning I had an email from our host telling me that our specific site had been disabled due to very high resource usage. I don't know if that was related to the other or if it was because so many people were trying to connect at the same time or what. It was followed about a hour later with an email telling me that service had been restored and no further information. I am trying to play it safe until I know a bit more about what is going on. This morning I disabled several features that were nice but that we can do without for now. You may notice that the box that shows "who has read a thread" and also who is browsing a thread is missing. Those things are fairly server resource heavy so I have turned them off for now. I have also decreased the "cookie" time back to the default of 15 minutes. This will be an inconvenience for some of you. What it means is that you will be automatically logged out after 15 minutes of inactivity. I had previously increased that number due to requests from a few members but it too increases the load on the server and though I truly want to accommodate all the requests that I can, I have to do what I can for now to reduce our server load. I've made a few other small changes also that will probably not be noticed by anybody. If you see something working differently and are wondering why, just ask and I'll check on it and see if it is something that I did. My worry here is that we the growth of our club, we are outgrowing our shared hosting. This worries me because the only solution then would be to move to a dedicated host where we would be on our own server. That means MONEY MONEY MONEY. A dedicated host is a LOT more money than being on a shared host. On a shared host, there could be a hundred or more sites and all those sites share the cost of the server, bandwidth, etc. I truly hope that it doesn't come to that because I honestly will not be able to afford it without your help. I'm still looking into it but a dedicated host will likely run in the $200.00 per month range. I'm not asking for anything at this time. I have always been committed to keeping this site free and that is still my intention. It may reach the point though that they only way I can do that is if some of you truly help out. All I am asking at this time is that you give it some thought and help me to come up with some solutions and the best way to proceed if a dedicated host becomes a requirement. Thanks, Don
  11. Well, I talked to the Doctor yesterday, and he has agreed to postpone the surgery until August. That means I can make it to Marcarls and the International Rally!! Unfortunately Ashville will be out of the question, and I was sooo looking forward to meeting that crowd. They will be just removing the bone that my middle toe is conected to, but will leave the toe itself on "for decoration." Also, the recovery time wil be just a few weeks instead of the few months I had anticipated. Also, it should not affect my balance, so I guess I can postpone triking out Goldie for another couple of years yet. Thanks to al of you who have been praying for me as it means a LOT to me...
  12. Well, I has finally about to order the crome clamps from Iron City Cycles to put a set of RKs on and when I went to the page, it has a network solutions page up (which usually means the site has gone *poof*)... So do yall know of anywhere else to pick them up???
  13. I posted this in another thread, so to make sure you get this I am posting to you again............. Do you have any idea how many people will be riding with you to Memphis, I need to give the hospital a heads up by next weekend so they can be prepared for us.............. Getting real excited about this, it means a lot to me that I have other VR members going to support this.........Especially you, you have been there everytime I needed something or planned something and that means a lot to me........Thanks brother...............
  14. Left turn signal doesn't seem to work when I apply the switch. When I apply the 4 way flasher all lights work. I assume that it means that I have a switch problem at the left handlebar control. Iowa Guy
  15. Initially, I didn't think that music was going to be such a big part of my riding (my previous bike had no such ability), but I now wish to better what I have on my '83 VR. It came with the radio/cassette deck, but the latter doesn't function at all. The radio does play, but only on certain stations. Changing between those few stations means pulling over, somewhere, and using a pin to depress within the well where the buttons used to reside. Even then, it is somewhat of a trying situation because the LED panel is with broken visuals, and also very dimly lit. I do have a 30gig Ipod that I would LOVE to use with it, but my unit is a little before such technological gadgetry , which means that it doesn't have the required connecting port. I have wondered, though, if there were some way to 'rig' a hookup for my Ipod, with what my '83 has. Providing that there is no possibility for the above, the next best thing would be a CD player capable of reading MP3 files. I have heard mention of 'marine grade' devices, and wonder how much more they would hit the pocket, over & above their conventional counterparts. Also, what else might I need to 'securely' install a CD player into the same well as the cassette player? Advanced thanks.
  16. Would it be alright to ask that if you post a thread here in this area, can you add a picture of the person you are posting about? It just means a lot to see a picture of the person who has gone. It seems more real to me and more of a tribute. Just an idea.
