  1. I've always had trouble finding a good riding jacket that fit me well. Being on the heavy side when I find a jacket that fits at the waist the arms hang down to my knees. The elbow pads become forearm pads. Last weekend I went to the Atlanta MC show for the specific purpose of looking for a jacket and I found one that works. It is a Fieldsheer Aqua Sport. http://www.fieldsheer.com/2008site/IE/product/AquasSportsJacket.htm I spoke with the Fieldsheer rep and they make jackets in 2 cuts. One for cut narrower for trim riders and one that is more full cut for us middle age wide bodies. This is the first jacket I've found with pads that is comfortable with all of the pads where they are supposed to be. This is my first exposure to Fieldsheer. It looks like a well made jacket but I had never heard of the brand before. If this works as good as I expect I want to get a warm weather jacket also. They have a mesh jacket with a zip out liner that has the same cut. http://www.fieldsheer.com/2008site/IE/product/TourTempTXJacket.htm Seems like the only brands the local dealers around me carry are Joe Rocket and River Road which never work for me. I just wanted to pass this along in case any other riders have the same problem finding jacket with a little fuller cut. DT
  2. i've got a lot of different jacket for all kinds of weather. does anyone out there use a sking jacket for riding i heard they are pretty good.any feed back on this? my wife needs a jacket as a passenger an was wondering if this is as good or not better than a bike jacket?

    Jackets

Has anyone ever tried wearing a down filled jacket under their riding jacket? I might try it if it ever gets cold enought here. Pros and cons. My jacket is a little large, I like it like that. tew47
  4. Well guys I did it. I ordered some 30 gauge multistranded teflon coated wire and sewed it in my jacket and WOW! It is great. I just ran it through a 10 amp fuse and a switch and plug it in and I have instant heat. I am going to try to ride all winter. Total cost was about $40.00. I bought a second hand work coat at the thrift store for $5.00 and the wire cost $28.00 and the plug and wire was $7.00 to hook up to the battery. I can't believe how warm it is and pulls less than 5 amps from the battery. This is alot cheaper than the $400.00 for a heated jacket.... :cool10:
  5. I just bought 2 of these jackets. 1 XL for me and 1 WLG for the wife. For anyone looking for a great 3 season all weather jacket, I would highly recommend it. Honda of east Toledo has them at their ebay store for $239 which is the cheapest I could find it anywhere. They list for $299. New Enough has them for $269. I got ours from Honda of east Toledo and would recommend doing business with them. Here's a link and no I do not have any financial interest in them or Firstgear.-Jack http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FIRSTGEAR-Kilimanjaro-4-0-Jacket-BK-GY-LGT_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6750QQihZ017QQitemZ270186931871QQtcZphoto Here's a rundown on the Jacket. The Kilimanjaro 4.0 jacket is the fourth generation in a jacket that has been a favorite among commuters and touring riders for years. The main things that set this jacket apart are the full-coverage 3/4 length design and the extensive storage built into the jacket. A 3/4 length style like this can provide great coverage from the elements, especially in cold weather. The main zipper of the jacket is “two way” meaning you zip it up normally from the bottom, but you can also raise a second zipper slider from the bottom which will help with comfort when sitting on a bike in the riding position (you’ll know what I’m trying to say when you try it out). The storage system on this jacket is fantastic. I count at least seven pockets, including large cargo storage pockets on front that have little organizing features built in as well. Plenty of room for all your touring needs. For cold weather, you get a removable full-sleeve thermal liner. The liner is a great design since it serves as a light casual jacket when removed. This dual-purpose capability is handy for those with limited packing space. Take the “View Larger Pictures” link above to see what I mean about the liner design. When the weather warms up, you can leave the liner out and use the zippered vents (two in front and one in back). For crash protection, you get a full set of CE approved armor. The armor is a combination of firm plastic covered in a soft foam material. It’s very substantial and should provide good protection in case of a fall. The back armor is a soft flexible “memory foam” type armor.
  6. I have a Joe Rocket textile jacket for sale. Not sure of the exact model, but looks like the Alter Ego. It has the zipout waterproof lining, and removable outside panels that cover the mesh. Has a drawstring to tighten the waist. Includes the armour in the spine area, sholders, and elbows. It's an XL in great shape. $100.00 shipped to the 48 states. http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j204/DragracerUSA/DSCN9988.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j204/DragracerUSA/DSCN9987.jpg
  7. For Sale: Ladies black Joe Rocket mesh jacket w/ leather trim and a removable liner that is waterproof and windproof. Jacket has armour on back, shoulders and arms. Ladies size XL. In excellent condition. Asking $95 or PM me with a reasonable offer - buyer pays shipping.
  8. …from past threads seams to be missing some details and I hope some of those past contributors (or anyone) can fill in some gaps for me. Here is the scenario I was thinking of: Fieldsheer Air-Tex mesh jacket with zip-out “water-resistant/thermal liner” (on-hand). 30-40 feet of 30 AWG multistranded Teflon coated wire ($4) WarmGear Heat-Troller Single Portable Temp-Controller WG-SPCOAX ($70) WarmGear SAE to Coax Jack (Female) WG-DCJK150SAE ($5) In theory, I could plug the SAE-to-coax adapter to the existing SAE jack that came already attached to my battery, then plug the heat-troller coax to the coax adapter (in lieu of using the battery harness that comes with the heat-troller), and plug the jacket coax into the other heat troller coax. (right?) …but naturally I would have to wire the jacket liner in such a way as to end up at a coax connector. This is where I am lacking information. I assume I would turn the liner inside out (?) and lay out the 30 gage Teflon wire back and forth around the jacket and hitch it down so it will stay put. I further assume I would leave a pigtail of wire near the waist/bottom for attaching to the coax jack. What I don’t understand is how to attach the 30 AWG (isn’t this a single wire?) to a coax jack. I thought I read somewhere that the 30 gage wire has to be upsized into an 18 AWG wire (if so, what kind of wire is this [two-wire?]? I.e. red/black zip cord from bulkwire.com? how is this connection accomplished?) and then the 18 AWG is attached to the coax jack (how is this accomplished? Where can I find a coax jack to match?). I’ve seen all the comments about just buying a heated vest, but dang they’re expensive. This looks like a project I could spend the summer doing since I won’t need the liner in the jacket. I’m pretty good with a variety of hand and power tools and a civil engineer by education (but by definition merely dangerous in the electronics department). Bottom Line: I don’t quite understand how to make the wiring connections for a DIY heated jacket. Hope someone can help. Thanks. David
  9. Does anyone have either of these? I prefer the lighter weight for summer (have been using my Triumph Summer Jacket) and layer underneath... Have looked at First Gear, Tour Master, Aerostich,....I know this is a personal thing, but have grown accustom to the textile....If anyone has either of these Yamaha jackets, let me know...would like to know comfortability of each while riding.. Thanks. George in VA.

    Gerbing & Widder Comparison

Just thought I'd share my personal findings by using Gerber & Widder gear: GERBING GLOVES Nice fit. Get "moist" too quick (after you take them off, ok while riding). Gotta have the dual controller to control heat to the gloves properly. MUST use an over glove in wet weather - these are all leather and will really get water logged. That happened to me 2 yrs ago. But note that the heat kept going into the glove so I had "warm water" all around my hands. WIDDER GLOVES Fantastic. They are also mostly covered with a weather proof material. The palms are leather. However, Widder does not make a dual controller so the heat control feeds both jacket and gloves. But Widder has something right because not only do my hands stay warm, they never get "moist". WIDDER CONTROLLER Difficult to use. It is not easy to attach so that the control readings are easily seen. I've tried strapping it to my leg which helps a bit. No LED like on the Gerbing. GERBING CONTROLLER Really nice. You can get a holder with a strong clip that goes right onto the jacket. It has 2 indicator lights telling you about feed to either the jacket or gloves. Very easy to change temps without looking. WIDDER JACKET Fantastic. Nice and warm with a great fit. It is actually a vest. If you want sleeves you buy Widder "Arm Chaps". They fit nice and snug with easy straps that allow for keeping that heat close to your body. GERBING JACKET Fantastic. Good warmth coverage. Fit is critical. BIGGEST WIDDER DRAWBACK Each connection is dependent on proper alignment - it is easy to reverse polarity. Bad thing. BIGEST GERBING DRAWBACK My original Gerbing had onsistently blown fuses. This current jacket is only 3k miles old and so far is OK. We'll see how further testing goes. SO FAR --- I'd go with Widder because it is more reliable and better waterproofing on the gloves. CLOTHING LAYERS Layering. I still like to use a light pile liner or a nice Windblocker pull over ON TOP of the electric gear. Why? It keeps it close to your body. So here are my layers: 1. VERY THIN T Shirt - I like the new mil spec thin udershirts 2. T NECK OR LONG SLEEVE T SHIRT 3. ELECTRIC JACKET 4. LIGHT PILE LINER 5. GORE TEX DARIEN OR ROADCRAFTER This allows me maximum flexibility for the wide range we encounter here in this screwed up weather area. No. My flexibility is not affected at all. And remember, you can always get cooler -- YOU CAN'T ALWAYS GET WARMER UNLESS YOU GOT THE GEAR WITH YOU!! MORE TO COME. IMHO, DREBBIN
  11. Just thought I'd take a few minutes to say something nice about the great customer service from New Enough. Ordered a jacket from them last week, and ordered the wrong size. They have an excellent exchange policy. Ordered the correct size on an exchange and they ship the replacement jacket out even before they got the original back. Now that is customer service.......... Highly recommend them. If anyone needs riding gear, check them out at www.newenough.com you won't be disappointed.
  12. Buying myself a Christmas gift. Looking at a Cortech Fusion textile jacket and wondering what your opinions will be? I ride mostly back and forth to work in temps from 50 - 80 degrees normal temps in low 70's. Want a jacket thats light and water resistant with some protection. this looks like it will fit the bill. Also I'm 5'11" and carry 260lbs. Will an XXL fit? Thanks

    Motophoria Riding Jacket

I just ordered a Motophoria Infiltrator jacket from http://www.motogearoutlet.com/ I saw it many places for $269 and I bought it for $79. I feel it was quite a steal. Does anyone have any experience with it? As far as the site goes, they seem to have some great deals - it seems they only take PayPal, though. Happy Thanksgiving, all!
  14. Does anyone here ride with a heated jacket liner? If so, how did you run the electrical connections and what type/brand of jacket are you using? Since I try to ride to work when ever the temps are above freezing I'm thinking I could extend to those high 20's days with a heated jacket. What are your thoughts? Dennis
  15. What do you all suggest as a really warm motorcycle jacket? Ron has a Wilson Motorcycle jacket with Thinsulate lining that seems to work for him. My leather jacket has a regular lining, and although I dress in layers, I seem to still get really cold. Especially if it is in the low 50's. It seems that most of the jackets for ladies are just more for looks. Hey, Fringe isn't really that warm!

    Mesh Gear

I picked up a Mosse mesh/leather riding jacket this year. I don't know how I survived previous summers wearing my HOT leathers. My wife picked up the Mesh tek2 jacket from First Gear this year also. This mesh stuff is great.
