  1. Does any one have a suggestion for the best wheel chock for the price that will make it easy for one person to tie a bike down. I think I need something that clamps on to the wheel and installs fairly easily into the trailer, it doesnt matter if it folds down flat ot not, as the trailer is going to be used only for storage and transport of my 1st gen. Thanks in advance for the advice everyone Brian:cool10:
  2. I hope there is an easy fix, but I don't think so. Was going to take the beast out and bingo the front tire was flat. That brand new metzler was doing the pancake impersonation. No nail and a full bottle of Ride-on, that tire can't be flat????? It was and the air was coming out of the base of the valve stem. There are two nuts on the base of the valve stem and one appears to be a locking nut. Is there a way to tighten it or does the tire need to be removed to fix it. I tinkered with the stem, but it turns and does not appear to be tightening. Any thoughts?? joe
  3. OK, I'm posting this in the 1stGen Tech section due to it being, like the MAC Mufflers, for 1stGens only. I've traded a few emails and phone calls with the Ebay seller who has been auctioning fork braces, I need to know how many 1stGeners would be interested in doing a group buy. Here's the deal. For an order of 20 his price will be $60ea., and for an order of 40 he'll drop it to $50 per. The shipping will be in bulk to me no-charge, and then forwarded to those of us who have raised their hands. Of course there will be individual shipping and paypal charges on top of the quoted price. I estimate the paypal at $2 bucks and the shipping could be as low as $6.50 Priority depending on weight, if it qualifies, or $8.95 Flat Rate if it doesn't. The manufacturer is checking the individual weight for me. He's been shipping Flat Rate off Ebay, but I'm thinking it may go cheaper regular priority?? My question is... Would this be something that enough of us would be interested in to qualify for the 20 or 40 price,?? And I'd need to know with in the next couple of days. I don't want to stick my neck out and pre-order 20....that's $1200 bucks..., and it fall flat. I noticed on the Super Brace web site that they have the same part number for all 1stGen's, so I assume this brace will fit all years too.... So....please let me know and if there is enough interest we'll start a group buy...
  4. Ok, Here we are again, had the carbs off and cleaned them up good, but did notice the diaphagms are pretty much shot, so I am looking around the net and come up with a price of $57.00 each, does this sound right?? Holy **** that is about $240.00 plus shipping. Guess I know where my Christmas money is going So this is what is going on, the bike starts right up, idles fine, but when you go to rev it up, it falls flat on its face and sputtures, does this sound about right for a diaghagms issue Ok, guys let me have it, I need all the help I can get....... Thanks in advance

    Venture gets towed

When you post about the car tire gods and motorcycle tire gods...somebody can get offended, I guess... About 2 hours after posting on this website about tires, I had one go flat on me at 75 mph in Happy Texas....I was NOT happy! The bike got all crooked feeling, but I got it under control, and rode it into the ditch. I think the tire went flat in about 10 seconds...I had the cruise on, and by the time I knew what was happening, the handling got really bad. I called Star Service, and they had a wrecker there in about an hour. I had it towed to Sharps Honda/Yamaha/Suzuki in Amarillo, and they put me a shiny new black doughnut on. The tire had about 4000 miles on it...probably would have gone another 2000-3000 or so, looking at the tread that was left. Oh well...at least I didnt have an accident trying to get it stopped...it was really getting hard to handle when it came off the rim....I think I'm lucky to be posting here today.
  6. I have been riding for a litle over 37 years now and I have never had a flat tire. Well so much for luck, I have one now and the bike only has 2700 miles on it. It doesn't supprise me with all the new houses going up in this area. I have picked up dozens of nails and sheet rock screws in the road while out for walks. Looks like my rear tire found a #8 nail. I'm in the market for a new rear tire, does anyone recommend a dealer with good prices and fast shipping? The local stealer wants $198.00 for a Bridgeston, he's NUTS!
  7. I lowered the front of my RSV today with the help of the post on here. Was really not that hard, just took it slow and all went well. I love how I now can flat foot the bike. I am 5'7" and was not able to flat foot the bike before this. I did not feel uncomfortable on the bike by no means, but it sure feels better now! The slow speed handling is better as stated in previous post. I am suprised at how much 1" changed the feel and handling of this bike. If anyone has any questions about the process just let me know, I will try and help however possible. SLim Jim
  8. Well just got back from rescuing an HD as they were on vacation out of Tennessee and down here on vacation . I was coming up from behind approaching an HD riding 2 up . Noticed that they were noticing something strange until they pulled over . I pulled in behind them to notice that there rear tire going flat . Well I told the rider I would do 2 up with his wife and follow him to a garage where we could get the tire fied . Only a short mile down the road it was . The rider's wife asked as we were on our way if I had any experience riding and riding 2 up ? I understood her concern as she was placing herself life in jeoperdy with me driving . I told her that I just got this scoot yesterday , But I am learning and haven't tipped it over yet !:rotf: The look on her face was undescribable . Well we got down to the garage and my freind already had 2 cages on the rack and no tire and the flat one has a chunk of glass in it and non-repairable . So I fetched my truck and trailer and returned to load up the scoot and head down to the HD House . So this time the HD warranted a trailer ride . They were a nice couple and told them about our family . They are eager to look upon the site after they return home . Hopefully by now , their scoot's tire is replaced and the wind is to their back . Hope they have a safe trip home . I just thought I had to post , to share to you the look on her face when I made my experience reply . It was priceless ! BEER30
  9. I’ve never had a flat tire while driving and was wondering from those of you who have, how did the bike handled? Front, rear, did you loose all the air, how fast you were going, stopping, that sort of thing. Hopefully it will only be something that I read about!
  10. What is the determining factor for the amount you can lower the front end. I have read 1 inch and I have read 1.5 inch. I just lowered my bike 1" and all seems well, but I'm still just a little off from being able to stand flat footed. Thanks Everette
  11. Folks, I ride an '03 Venture. After some work on the lower part of the engine (can you say new clutch) I noticed a "flat" spot at about 70mph where the engine feels like its grinding something up. it goes away and the normal "Mr. Smoothe" of my wonderful engine comes back. Anyone else get this feeling?

    Run Flat tires?

Kicking around the Harley dealer today, saw several bikes with run flat tires. I guess the police use them but are available for retail puchase. First time I have seen these on a bike. There must be some drawbacks or most bikes would have them. Any experience anyone?
