  1. Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house the whole family was asleep and quiet as a mouse. When, from the garage, there arose such a clatter, I jumped from my bed to see what was the matter. And when I opened the door, it was plain to see, it was Santa trying to start the RSV. I said, Santa, what are you doing here? you should be out - spreading Christmas Cheer! Well my friend, I've had a stroke of bad luck. My reindeer are sick, and my sleigh is stuck. But what can I do to ease your way, you know the RSV can't replace your sleigh. But the jolly old man, with a twinkle of an eye roared out the door and into the sky. The gentle rumble of the pipes could be heard loud and clear. Letting everyone know there was nothing to fear. As he flew through the clouds, I could hear him say - "This RSV sure beats my sleigh". The moral of the story, is plain to see. When all else fails, you can count on the RSV. Merry Christmas Ventureriders Mackinawman
  2. Why are motorcycle loan rates higher then car loans. Yamaha is running a 7.9% offer for 72 months but sometimes automakers do a 60 month at 0% to push them out the door. Just seems like motorcycle loans would be cheaper. Just curious NO I'm not looking.
  3. To who ever is guilty. My neighbor just called and said the door is standing wide open on the old house at the camp again. No reason to break the door down I removed the lock just turn the knob. Please close the door when your done. I have neighbors that watch the place and I really don't want to be called out of bed again like tonight. If you want the old wood burner just take it. My back can't handle 600 lb any more. The electric has been turned off but the old refrigerator is good. So is the electric cook stove.I wouldn't want you to steal something that was broken. You could steal the copper wiring out of the house but it might be easier to see in the daylight. If your thinking about burning the place down that would save me some work. It will probably piss the wife off she is looking forward to taring the house down in the spring. Have a good day LAND OWNER!
  4. Just came in from working on trailer.I got all the diamond plate panels cut and fitted to the trailer.Got the door frame cut down and resized, the door has two sheets of diamond plate back to back so when the door is opened it will still look finished.I am using two handle and locks that match the trike on the door.Notice the cooler rack that is some alum.grating I picked up at the salvage yard while I was buying the diamond plate.I am also installing a large brake light above the door.Well got to go and clean up the mess in the garage.Jerry M

  6. My mechanic has been a busy one lately. I’ve noticed that a lot of my friends also show up at his door asking questions, getting advice, sharing a story or two and making him laugh with some of their jokes. I just don’t know how he keeps up with the, now two, shops that he looks after plus his family his property. I sure glad he’s got some help with some of the locals. What bothers me sometimes though, is how long will he stay on. Very few of his customers pay him anything because he just won’t present a bill, he says it all from the goodness of his heart, and I believe that to be true. The other day though, I did leave him a little something so that he could maybe repaint the front door or maybe replace the chairs that we seem to have worn out by sitting on and watching him work. I’m thinking to make up a sign so that more of the other ‘locals’ will leave a little bit so that this winter when it gets cold, it could be a little warmer when we sit around and chat. I figure that with a little over the 3000 customers he has, we should be able to keep quite warm this winter. Yep you guessed it, MY MECHANIC is this site and if I need to say more this part will have to go to part 3. I really think that just counting the bike info we get, let alone all the other entertainment, comradery, prayers, support, physical help, and more, that we get from this site, we certainly would not want to forget to place just a little something in the donation box. Ok I’ve said too much, but it’s been on my mind and I couldn’t shake it. Now it’s done. Carl
  7. finally done and working , located the remote button on the right battery cover in the front bolt hole , I had to drill the nut in the cover to install the switch fits OK and works good .
  8. Anybody know about this product , motofx remote garage door opener and is it worth the money . I tried rigging my own remote control but killed it trying to solder wires to it now I have to by a new one .Or is there another model out there .
  9. Anyone here tried this product: Garage Door Opener: http://www.autoswitch.com/2006/models/as5pg2/as5pg2_index.shtml. Sounds like a very useful item. Maybe this one, too: Passing Lamps: http://www.autoswitch.com/2006/models/as5p/as5p_index.shtml for turning on/off the passing lamps.
  10. How To Install Your Own Hidden Garage Door Opener Have you ever come home and fumbled for the garage door opener in your pocket while trying to steer? One solution I used on my previous scoot was to velcro the opener to the handlebars. Looked kind of tacky plus I always had to remember to remove it when leaving the bike unattended. After I got my new ride ('06 Venture), I decided to make something more permanent and easy to use. Here is how I did mine. Your own installation will vary depending on where you want to locate things, but the concept is the same. You will need to split the faring for this procedure. 1) Go out and buy a small transmitter, or use a spare you might have around the house. The smaller the better, but don't go too small as it will be almost impossible to find the solder points you will need to get to on the inside. http://www.venturerider.org/garage/image002.jpg 2) Key your new transmitter to your garage door opener. Since every model is different I cannot begin to tell you here how to accomplish this. You will need to consult the manual for your particular brand. Once you have it keyed, test it. 3) Go to Radio Shack (or any electronics parts place) and get a Single Pole Momentary On pushbutton switch. The size, color and feel of the switch is strictly an individual choice. Attach 2 wires to the posts (solder is best) and shrink wrap (I shrink wrap everything). http://www.venturerider.org/garage/image004.jpg 4) Now pick a spot on the faring where you would like to have the button. Check locations when you are sitting on the bike to make sure that it is easily reachable and will not interfere with your operation of the bike. Once you have a location picked, make sure that the spot is reachable from the inside the faring. This picture shows mine under the left side. Since the button is black, it's hard to see. Look at the end of the arrow. http://www.venturerider.org/garage/image006.jpg One suggestion: Remove the transmitter battery before starting this next step. It will save you the trouble of having to explain to the neighbors why your garage is not possessed just because the door keeps opening and closing every few seconds. 5) Now open up the transmitter and find 2 contact points on the circuit board that are closed when you push the transmitter button. Solder 2 wires to these contact points and route the wires outside the body of the transmitter. I used a small round file to cut 2 notches in the case where it split to allow the wires to not get crimped when I reassembled the case. This process is what took me the longest to do, in all, about 1 hour to locate the traces and carefully solder wires to them. An ohmmeter is really useful for doing this. Once the case is reassembled (with the battery back in) you should have something like this. http://www.venturerider.org/garage/image008.jpg Test! Test! Test! If you have done everything correct to this point you should be able to touch the 2 bare ends of the transmitter wires together and your garage door should activate. If it does...congratulations!!! On to the next step. If not...go back to step 5 6) Drill a hole in the faring where you decided to locate the button and install it. A good idea is to put some silicone seal on the threads to keep the locknut from backing off. http://www.venturerider.org/garage/image010.jpg 7) Now find a convienent place for the transmitter to sit on the inside of the faring and mount it. I use sticky back velcro just in case I need to remove the thing one day. 8) Connect the two wires from the button to the two wires from the transmitter. Since this is just completing a circuit it does not really matter which wire goes to which. In my case, I just twisted them together and then shrink wrapped the connections. Tidy up the extra wire with a couple of wire ties. Test it again! Put everything back together and you're ready to go. http://www.venturerider.org/garage/image012.jpg
