  1. Well I finally got around to the clutch switch. I took it apart and cleaned it.(thank you Dingy for your cleaning posts) Works great!! Thanks for all the reply's and help with this.
  2. Thanks for all the reply's. I have a lot of good information to start trying to track down the problem. It will probably be this weekend before I can get to it but I will let you know what I find.
  3. I will take a look at it. Thanks for your help. I will let everyone know what I find....... By the way Fool. From what Ive read I think your the major cause of the snow problem. If you would cut that stuff out you might be able to get to your bike.
  4. Thanks Doug . If I find I need one I will get with you....... Where would I find the clutch switch ? Is it located on the lever? I would like to say I appreciate all the post and help with this.
  5. I think I will start with the Kickstand switch. But I know the display shows a warning light and the kickstand symbol when it is down and it goes off when I raise it. So I would think the switch is working .But I will take a good look at it to see if the problem is with it.
  6. Is it normal for a 87' Venture not to start when the bike is in 1st gear.....kickstand up.....clutch pulled in. It went dead on me as I was starting off and would not crank until I put the bike in neutral. This was my first real ride on this bike or any Venture . I purchased it about 4 months ago and have been working on it. I didn't notice this till today.
  7. When I select a smile it puts in a code but when it is posted the smile is there. I thought that's how it worked.
  8. pretended that I enjoyed riding behind the 1st gen when suddenly.........
  9. That sounds as easy as putting in a new fuse. I'll give it a try. Thanks!
  10. I was working on my 87' Venture today and I finally got around to getting my radios to work. It surprised me when everything lite up and started working. Its amazing what a new fuse will do. But my problem was with the CB. It scans thru the channels and doesn't stop on any of them. Like its seeking a cannel that's being used. I have been restoring this bike for the last 3 months. I took the CB apart and cleaned the buttons because they were sticking. This was at a earlier time. I might have done something I shouldn't have done while I was cleaning it. Does anyone have any ideals on this?
  11. Great story. Hope your back gets well soon. And parked cars jumping out in front of you is no laughing matter. My wife has had two of the dang thing jump out and hit her while she was backing out in the last 6 months.
  12. Wrench your right I don't know what a pickle dog is. But I would like to. I'll trade a fried pig ear sandwich for a pickle dog.
  13. I will have to take another look at the pictures. All I could see was that fine looking bike.......That's not good
  14. I like that.."kinda sorta star-type" washer. That described it completely. Glad it worked out.
  15. I just took mine apart and cleaned it. It has a washer that kind of looks like a star washer. I don't know the proper name. It is cupped. The points need to face the control side. Not the thumb lever side. Mine stays put where I place it. I don't know that this will solve the problem but its a place to start.
  16. Don I wanted to add my 2 cent worth but everyone has covered it well. Thanks for a great web site!
  17. Dang Dragonrider what are you trying to do? My bike aint back together yet. Where am I going to find a mechanic that makes house calls?....Just kidding a course. But seriously......don't do that anymore. Hope you get to feeling better soon.
  18. Hi Micarl . Thanks for the response. So are you saying that if I bypass the lamp sensors in the CMU and put LED's in the running lights and tail light then I would still benefit on the power savings and the CMU will be happy?
  19. I have been researching the older post on LED's. I read some that say you don't have to add anything but the bulbs unless you change out the turn signals. Other post sound like you do have to add resistors. I would like to change out the running lights that I have and perhaps the headlight. I don't want to change the turn lights at this time. My bike is a 87' 1st gen. Can someone please clear this up for me?
  20. Believe it or not he left a plastic ice cream tub full of screws and small parts for me to use if I needed to.......wonder what that's going to cost? LOL!!
  21. Lewis come over and gave me a hand on the Venture today. It was hard keeping him focused at times. And he keep saying something about being 12 years older then me. As you can see I had the hard part of taking it apart already done.... Here are a few pictures of Lewis helping out.... And here's one of me checking the gap on a spark plug the technical stuff. (Yes in the right light you can eyeball the gap..... Ok maybe not.) Lewis worked all day repairing this bike. He keep pointing out things that needed doing and then asked "Do you want to go ahead and fix it " Now Im not one to stand in the way of progress so I said "Lets do it" We put new plugs in...synced the carbs....rewired the accessories lights so they turn of when the bike is shut off.... and countless other things. And to top it off Lewis synced the carbs on a Ninja 250 that my son was working on. Thanks Lewis. You helped do some things I know that I couldn't have done. And thanks for spending the day with me working on it. I really enjoyed the day. Landon says thanks to.
