  1. It very well could be the splines at the differential end of the driveshaft. Not the driveshaft itself but the splined sleeve whatchamacallit the driveshaft goes into. Called the "coupling gear" Part #10 in the pic
  2. Being from Western Canada, I'm a bit disappointed that once past the "nationals" it goes first to Ontario and then Quebec. We westerners should know about those places????
  3. Damn COOL! I used to run a rental/leasing operation for IH called IdeaLease years ago...woulda liked to have those fancy rigs on my fleet then!
  4. Fuel stabilizer, sea foam, this...that... geeez... I've never put a thing in my gas ... my bike (all of the ones I've owned).. get parked around Oct 15th and never get run again till April... they've been parked inside / outside / in freezing cold (minus 30 celcius)... now here on the WET west coast... you name it ... rarely have issues getting them running in the spring... so I wonder, why do so many seem to have this problem? What I do is leave them with about 1/4 tank of gas...in the spring, I fill them up with fresh gas from a jerry can...charge the battery and if they stammer or stutter and seem to have trouble getting going, I use a spray bottle and spray a bit of raw gas into the air intake....in no time at all, they're running smoothly. Couple times years ago I've used ether but that's a bit dangerous. I did try the seafoam last spring tho... didn't notice much improvement as it seemed to be running good to begin with...just thought I'd try it out to see what, if any, difference it would make. well that's just my experience...mebbe I been lucky?
  5. I have a Chilton Motorcycle repair manual for sale if anyone's interested. Covers BMW, BSA, Bultaco, Harley, Honda, Kawasaki, Montesa, MotoGuzzi, Norton, OSSA, Suzuki, Truimph, Yamaha .... I'm gussing it's for bikes around 1970 era as I got it when I had my '72 Truimph back around 1976. The book was published in 1974. It's in pretty good shape...has a bit of a "burn" on the edge of the front cover that extends to the first 2 or 3 pages. 1376 pages in total. No idea what this book is worth so if anyone's interested, make me a offer...I'll ship it COD or will find out shipping cost and add that to the price.
  6. Not to mention that all their 4-way stop signs have been re-signed with the words "All Way" ...
  7. Thanks for the info... I fussed over where this leak was coming from for a long time....it sure appears to be coming from between the head and the block very close to the front of the engine on the right side. Where the head and the block meet...I can wipe it clean, run the engine for a while and eventually will see coolant seeping out there. I was hoping it would be something like a timing chain cover but I doubt it.
  8. THIS could get to be a real political issue, real quick. IMHO, racism exists only in the minds of those who feel they are "different" and it is usually them who bring the issue of racism into something.
  9. At this point, there is no coolant getting into the combustion chamber or the oil or vice versa so I want to "nip it in the bud" before that happens. I've parked the vehicle until I the product is delivered. So I've heard....thanks.
  10. I partially agree with you Kit .... I don't expect this stuff to be a permanent fix ... just a "patch job" until the weather gets warmer so I can work on it without freezing my *blank*s off (starts with a "b" and ends with 2 "L"s and has an "a" in the middle) LOL Having said that, I never pass judgement on something I've never personally tried out....it's good to hear opinions but I'm one of those "show me" kinda guys.

hmmmmm.... guess you'll have to use the left hand for a while eh? Hope it heals well and soon!
  12. I'm curious to know what it cost you Don, to heat your home for a year. It cost me around $1200+ and I don't even live in a cold climate and that's for natural gas here in BC. I live in a 2000 Sq ft house...main floor on upper level and small bachelor suite on ground level.
  13. Tenjooberrymud ! (bet ya got more snow than me!)
  14. Hey thanks for this info Jim ... what do you mean by "TSP"? Considering what you said here, I think I'll do the reverse flush first, then put in a cooling system cleaner... run that for a while and then reverse flush it again so that the remaining water is totally clear before I put the thermogasket stuff in. I'm quite familiar with this sort of thing as in my younger years I took training and worked as a mechanic (non-licensed).
  15. Thanks for the info thom ... I placed an order today. Hopefully it will get me thru until warmer weather when I can rip the engine apart myself outside and replace those head gaskets (might as well do em both) and anything else that needs fixin. Prolly a good time to have the heads shaved just in case they're warped (one most likely is) and have the valves ground and seated, springs checked and replaced as necc, oil seals... oh what the h&LL... might as well yank the pistons and put in new rings, con rod bearings, crank bearings, camshaft, ......... hmmmmmm .... mebbe simpler to just buy a brand new long block....or a whole truck!! haha
  16. OMG!! ... well, I most definately won't be doing no 24hr ride from Vancouver to Biggar anytime soon! Not quite so cold here.. minus 5 or so but we're getting a good dump of snow... the worst thing is, it snows, then rains and melts, then freezes again which turns what snow there was into ice, then it snows some more and does the same thing over again.... majority of drivers around here have no clue whatsoever when it comes to driving in these conditions.
  17. Dang...another one welched on me!!
  18. Well now, THAT's just a wee bit on the "optimistic" side eh? Are you secretly working for Yamaha?
  19. hey Kit... I do love the looks of your new ride...especially the color. Not so sure I like that monstrous chrome piece on the front of the fairing tho. Considering all the great features of the new Wing, I guess you won't be wanting those 2 speed whitewalls anymore huh?
  20. yes, they were talking about that movie on this TV show... was it a good movie?... should be with those 2 actors!
  21. Peanut bars were a big "rage" in the mid 80's around here...almost every bar ya went to had unlimited supply of peanuts in the shell and ya sat there gorging yourself on them while downing your beer and watching whatever was on sports...throwing the shells on the floor...everywhere ya walked it was "crunch" ... "crunch" ...coming from the shells on the floor and the patrons chowing down on the peanuts. There's at least one such place still around... it's in Victoria, BC.. called "Big Bad John's" .... quite the tourist attraction and a fav wih many locals including myself whenever I go over there. They play real old western music ... some "not so famous" Canadian stuff from guys like Stompin Tom Connors. They have thousands of women's bra's hanging from the ceiling...bra's donated by tourists and locals over the years and on the walls there's bills (dollar, 2 dollar, 5 dollar, etc) from Canada, US, and other parts of the world, not to mention numerous autographs and inscriptions from all kinds of famous folk who've visited the place. The owner and his bartenders/servers wear old "farmer" like clothing .... I love that place! Oh yeah... unlimited supply of peanuts and the shells are everywhere! To get a "rise" out of unsuspecting visitors, they have those "fake dead chickens" strung on wires above and they'll rattle an old cowbell and slide the chicken down close to someone, freakin them out LOL If ya ever get to Victoria ya gotta check the place out!
  22. I was just watching an interesting show on TV. They were talking about a "Bucket List". That is... what's on your list of things you'd really like to do before you "kick the bucket". Thought it would make for an interesting read here...to see what other's lists are. Here's some of mine that quickly come to mind... Spend at least a year touring Canada & the USA on a motorcycle, with a nice tent trailer in tow and my honey on the back seat. Take a ride in a jet fighter and maybe even get to fly it some. Drive an indy race car. Skydive Have a nicely equipped shop and build a custom car or a hot rod Move to the country and live in a log house on the edge of a nice lake with my own dock and a nice boat. (guess I'd better start buying more lotto tickets for some of these!)
  23. This isn't about my scoot but I suppose it could apply. Seems I have a coolant leak at the head gasket just where the head meets the block at the right front of the engine. It's a V8 Dodge 5.2L. There's no coolant getting into the oil and doesn't appear to be any combustion gasses getting into the cooling system (yet). The leak is very slow. I tried a couple inexpensive (less than $15) "stop leak" products but that doesn't appear to work. Been reading about a product called "Thermagasket". I know anything like this is only going to be a "temporary" fix and I'll eventually have to replace the head gasket (which I can do myself) but my garage is full of other stuff including my scoot and I really would prefer to wait until warmer weather before tackling this. Has anyone on here had any experience with "Thermagasket" or other similar such products that you'd care to share? I'm hoping to at least temporarilly fix this leak but I find it a waste of time trying one product and then the next only to find they don't work...would rather try something that at least someone I know has had success with. Thanks
  24. How'd you get so lucky? When I ran my computer business, my days were generally upwards of 16hrs and often times 7 days a week. That was my fault tho ... I hated turning business away ... after several years of that, I eventually learned that my sanity was worth more than the almighty dollar. After 20 years of self employment, I finally got tired of it and got a "real job". Now I work 8am - 4:30pm, 5 days a week, get regular breaks, got good benefits, no stress, no taking the work home, sit at a desk and pretend to be busy.... make a "reasonable" salary... 3 weeks holidays every year plus 6 health days a year.... I'm lovin it!
